3 seasons, actually. 69/70 & 70/71 under Furphy and 71/2 under Kirby. Although I’m open to the argument that we were so poor in the latter season we barely qualified as a ‘tier 2’ side.
TBF Wilder has said there is no injury so haven't quite totally made something up although he says Pedro has a lot on his mind.
Good to see the Pedro effect at Brighton already. 4-0 up against Wolves. Star boy already having a huge impact.
Ferguson and Pedro and all the service they'll receive next season. Mmmmmmmm pass me a bucket of cold water.
The good news for Pedro and Brighton is Merson usually gets it wrong and actually the others pick him up well of changes not helping him. Seem to lump JP in with Sarr too. https://twitter.com/WD18Fans/status...io/iframe/twitter.min.html1652365539568758787
I mean, we all know a lot more about JP than Merson, of course, and plenty will argue that there are various mitigating circumstances, but if you track him game to game over the course of this entire season, he's not exactly entirely wrong. You would probably say that he's showing promise in one way or another even in games he's failing to have any real impact, but it can't be avoided that he hasn't exactly set the division alight in terms of goals/assists/points, nor singlehandedly dragged us to anything at all, and in recent months especially there have been a concerning-for-a-Watford-fan amount of fairly anonymous performances. We have the benefit of understanding intimately the various factors that may have contributed to that, but in the most basic terms, Brighton basically are committing a great deal of money on the hope/belief/statistical analysis suggesting that he will perform far more impactfully, consistently, as soon as he gets out of this omnishambles and into a real team, with coaching and tactics and a non-despotic leader.
Merson is like nearly all the other pundits. Utterly clueless. The sooner he facks off with Stelling and all those man children, squealing and wailing their nonsense the better.
I agree with this on the one hand, but on the other I quite enjoy their clueless ‘fan in the pub’ type enthusiasm in contrast to the overly serious, supposedly in-depth analysis you get on all other football shows. I suspect this is the reason for the format’s success.
Merson is spot on. He's wildly inconsistent but who knows how much of that is down to 6 managers in 2 seasons. Pedro is a fun player to watch but often dribbles into nowhere and on the half way line. You realise after an hour he has had one shot that dribbled at the keeper and not created anything, yet is still out best player on the pitch.
I wish him all the best. He is clearly a very talented footballer and I think he needs to be in an environment that draws the best out of him. That’s clearly not here. All the best Joao!
Gone quiet. Surely will be confirmed this evening? Can’t peddle out another lame excuse for why he’s not playing on Monday.
Wilder said in his pre-match press conference that Joao has been around the club this week but it's up to the powers that be to decide if he's available for selection or not. And in fairness I don't think last weekend's excuse was that lame really. Without confirming it, Wilder didn't deny there's a transfer in the offing either.
Good luck João.There's a hell of a player in there. De Zerbi needs to kick out some bad habits he's developed, though. Too selfish and always attempts the difficult when the easy is available.
£30mil for Pedro, £12mil for Kayembe, just need Udinese to buy Sarr for £20mil now and we can pay off some of the debt.
Nothing specific against him like the majority of the rest of the squad, but not really bothered he's gone. We need a complete reset from top to bottom. Will likely develop very well at and be very good for Brighton.
One of the best talents we’ve had in some time, put aside some iffy performances of late he’s a real real talent and this is probably the perfect move for him. He’ll thrive at club that isn’t a complete sh*tshow. Wish him nothing but the best.
French says "up to" £35m, but I'd imagine that's heavily contingent on clauses from amount of appearances all the way to future Balon D'or nominations. If we've secured around £30m guaranteed we've done fairly well, in the circumstances.
