If he didn't have a huge price tag on his head he would simply be known as a maverick. Whatever he is sold for it will be a lot of money for that type of player .
I disagree re him being “ the worse signing in Watford history “ I agree he has been disappointing, but worse come on!
I agree. Hopefully it gets done next week, would be a good move for him. What I will say about Sarr, he’s not a bad egg and never has been.
The worrying aspect is that there are quite a number of candidates for worst signing. Gray Sarr Ellington Dixon Senior... continued page 94.
Is it not a club decision to keep him away from pre season to avoid getting injured whilst trying to shift him? Your anger should be directed at the club, not Sarr.
Im saying I wouldn’t be surprised if the Sarr fee is inflated. Better for us to borrow against 1 lump sum of €20mil, then 2 sums of money. So I think we sell Sarr for €20mil, but because we have asked them to roll the £2.3mil into the fee. It looks like we’ve got €20mil so Gino saves face, but part of the fee is the Gueye fee.
Breaking News:- Deal agree with Marseille. Personal terms agreed also. Medical on Monday. No mention of fee. Source: David Ornstein - The Athletic.
Athletic now reporting that there's been an agreement reached, here's hoping we can get it rubber-stamped quickly
Also being reported by reliable French journalist Santi Aouna, who has said the price is “less than €20m.” I would hope that means €17-19m which would be good business from us if so.
Good business? We sign him for £30m, let his contract run down to the final year and then sell for £15m. It’s precisely this “good business” practise that sees us in the sh1t.
Whispers of a ‘here we go’ Lack of reports on the approx fee makes me thing it’s on the low side Glad this hasn’t been strung out though, get it done early and move on
Assuming @LeedsOrn means good business in isolation, rather than a summation of Sarr's signing as a whole. Anything above £10m will be a welcome surprise, for me.
Well Sarr is still a quality player we’re losing for a loss. £15m isn’t great and goes towards paying off the debt the owner has scandalously saddled the club with. How much will be reinvested? We’ll see, but my guess would be zip.
Well we'll have to agree to disagree on the definition of 'quality player' I'd guess, his CV is pretty average at this point. Losing for a loss and what the fee will be put towards are again separate discussions, and I don't necessarily disagree. But £15m in isolation for a pretty one dimensional Championship winger, who doesn't want to be here and has 1 year on his deal, is objectively good work from us.
Moralee Hopefully selling Sarr will give Manga the funds to do his job. Can't help but feel he has had his hands tied up to this point.
It’s more than most on here would expect. Obviously it’s not good business from the perspective you’ve highlighted but in the scheme of this summer, where we thought we might be stuck with him or have to sell him on deadline day for £10m or so, getting £15m+ for him now is good business.
He's been an integral first team player during that time so we've hardly "run down his contract" He's in the last year of his contract, we're hardly going to get £20m now, have to be realistic.
It’s good to recoup what we paid for him, but the money makes no difference to any of us if its not reinvested. All good being “debt free” by next year, but its all for nothing if we haven’t got a decent squad. Hopefully we use some of this money to bring in a player or two..
Will be a relief to get him out the door and possibly for more than might have been expected. This could be the transaction they were waiting for to loosen the purse strings a bit and allow us to spend a bit here and there .
So a figure of around €20mil is being said. Although I have seen some state it’s less than €20mil. With the verbiage being used I would say it’s somewhere between €16-19mil.
Excellent news we're moving him on. Still strikes me as odd we're doing business with Marseille of all clubs after this week's news though.
£15m plus is good business. We've had 3 years play out of him, some good, some bad. Reality is we've gradually made him worse and that's partly why we've not been able to sell him earlier. Going into last year of his contract isn't a good negotiating position. These things happen in football, unfortunately we are a club in a position where these things do matter a lot to us as we're on the slide. I'm happy to get him out at this price.
