Always worth reading old copies of The Mirror whilst we wait for news to come out. Or slightly older copies of the Mirror.
He can try and spin it as a work event but his protestations will ring completely hollow. The privileges committee will surely do for him, but we've seen too many false dawns for me to get my hopes up.
https://www.itv.com/news/2022-05-23...nking-at-downing-street-party-during-lockdown I love the almost forensic-like examination of the bottles and snacks on display.
Think Boris would have to be pushed very hard to leave as don’t think he’ll quit without a fight ..or party.
The proper, Leicester way is a bag of prawn cocktail to start, followed by a bag of roast chicken, salt and vinegar for the vegetarians and the weight conscious and the cheese and onion board to finish.
Did anyone catch the clip of Boris’ primary school visit on the BBC news tonight? A little girl probably around 5 or 6 years old presented him with an invite to her party. Whichever teacher put her up to that absolutely stitched him up good and proper. He just had to grin and bear it and say thank you very much. It’s at about 4 minutes in here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0017pdp/bbc-news-at-ten-23052022
I think referring to Carrie like that is HIGHLY INAPPROPRIATE and, as pointed out earlier, she has m'Lord Goldsmith a six month old to look after.
I think the attempts from ministers, Grant Shapps the latest, to claim Johnson was not partying are superb. The gap between ordinary people’s perception and the Government is growing wildly. Johnson is taking the Party down with him.
Also potentially very serious, the allegation that Sue Gray was pressurised into dropping her report.
That's what happens when you scapegoat the "little people" while those at the top get away with it. If I were a lowly civil servant who picked up several fines while the PM got away with just the one I would be an anonymous whistle blower too!
This is why the flagrant rule breaking by Johnson, and everyone else at Downing Street, matters.... https://www.theguardian.com/comment...hs-doctors-covid-rules?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other ....and why people are so angry about it.
I want Boris out as much as the next sane person...but I do find anonymous bleating from people who also attended parties hard to stomach too. You were there. Own it. The rules were clear and seeing Boris wandering around with a glass of fizz makes it no more acceptable. I accept them being furious at the aspect of being thrown under the bus to save their superiors. - but they also don't seem terribly contrite at their own behaviour.
You could argue that they have been waiting a long time for people in Government to tell the truth or for the report to be published and still the lying goes on. Hard to get on with being contrite if you are the only one who is. You will be well and truly thrown under the bus.
I agree but I can understand them believing that their behaviour was endorsed by the PM, their boss, as he was fully aware of what was going on. It's also apparent, if the eye witness account is to be believed, that the those that did speak out about it were ridiculed. It would be very difficult for a young civil servant to go against the prevailing culture, supported by the PM, if they want a long term and successful career in the civil service imo.
You know that time Tony Blair invited Oasis to No 10? Johnson arguably has better taste because he invited Blur.
However, after watching the programme I was also struck by what an unpleasant bunch they must be, taking the piss out of a security guard who told them it was wrong and none stuck up for him. Happy if Boris takes them down with him.
Seeing The Quiet Man/Ian Duncan Cough on this evening's Panorama reminded me of the excellent, but defunct, and the IDS realistic unemployment simulator: https://web.archive.org/web/2014063...ncan-smiths-realistic-unemployment-simulator/ I managed to get to 6 job interviews before being sanctioned. Mocking a security guard for trying to do their job. No face-masks, social distancing etc at all at No. 10 during the whole pandemic. Winetime Fridays at 4pm every Fri. This is just the tip of the iceburg. And just to piss the Northern Powerhouse off, the multi-billion Elizabeth Line opened today.
