Football Manager 2012

Don your right about the game being a little messed up, to be fair I have won every league game so far with Huddersfield and find myself already 8 points clear, but I still just went to White Heart Lane and managed to win 7-3 in a bizarre, bizarre game.

 

Portsmouth just lost 0-8 at home to Reading! What!? Yet another bizzare result in my game.

 

I haven't seen too many of these 'bizarre' results... or at least, I haven't been involved in the ones I have seen. 6-1 and 5-4 are about as weird as they've got aside from that in the league... but then again, i'm only 18 games in.

 

Not to many bizarre scorelines but lots of own goals for and against.

 

Now Chelsea just lost at home to Bradford in the FA Cup 3rd Round 1-2. Bizzare.

In the last 17 games I've played, only once have I scored more than 1 goal in the game. Even then it was only 2. I'm now playing with 4 up top just to try and score more than 1 and it's still not happening. My strikers miss sitters all the time. My defence luckily is pretty tight, otherwise I'll be in real trouble. But all around me the others teams are scoring 3, 4 or even 5 a game. This is just weird.

 

I started the season like a house on fire. Destroying teams home and away. Now i'm 11 games without a win. Mariappa is the king of own goals. He's just notched his 5th of the season. Any attack down the flanks leaves my defense in ruin. Injuries have ravaged my entire squad. Not entirely sure what to do. No matter what I change, I can't seem to stop my team being vulnerable to any cross into the box. All part of the fun I suppose. Literally in 11 games i've gone from the best defensive record in the league, to almost the worst.

 

Are you having lots of shots on goal? Or just shots in general?

 

I just lost to Reading 3-1, they had 26 shots I had 5, this is the first time that has happened. In all the other games (as has been usual with FM the last few years), I have had to have double the shots of the computer to score. I think this is the most floored FM I've seen for a while, which is ashame as some of the features look decent. It's now mid-January and I haven't won a game since the first week of November.

 

I'm really inconsistent on this game.
Also, it gives me the option of offline mode, I select that and it says it can't open steam and it couldn't connect. WTF?!?!:rant:

 

Also, just got into January. Billy Sharp already has 20 league goals for Doncaster, who are 22nd.

 

Just finished my first season with Watford. Ended up 18th, which wasn't too bad considering we went about 20 without a win in the middle of the season. Eventually we also managed to score 3 in a game, which was a bizzare 0-3 at leaders West Ham. My plan is to blood more youth next season and see how it goes, we've just got two 15/16 year olds who look the mustard in the development/Under 18 squad. As an aside I've applied for the Great Britain job in the Olympics, could be interesting but I doubt I'll get it.

 

Barcelona athletic is about to clinch promotion to the first Spanish division. I wonder what will happen between them and Barcelona, is that even allowed?

 

What is wrong with the linos in this game! Just had two clearly onside goals disallowed, and Ipswich then went and scored the winner from the free kick from the offside. One of the disallowed goals was a header from a corner when Ipswich had two players standing on the posts! Now I'm third due to goal difference, not second!

I havn't posted on here for over a year, so I Thought I would post an update,

I have to say I am also finding this version of FM a little strange/easy!

Although I seem to be having the opposite results to some of you. I have managed to get Watford promoted, Pre season followed. The transfers rolled in after raiding Wolves who got relegated for Fletcher (always a safe bet), Stearman and Kadrii with a decent strike force of Vossen from Genk (get him signed up ) and Steven Fletcher the following results have followed, Beat Everton in the FA cup 6-2, League QPR 4-0 , Sunderland 4-1, Tottenham 3-1, Cardiff 5-1 Currently sitting in 8th after 18 games. I have know Idea if i have just hit lucky with my tactics or my players are just riding a wave.

I have to say I am really enjoying the new FM. I am sure my views may change if my results drop off, and I go on a typical Watford losing streak of 10 on the bounce.

 

Thought I would add my experience to the list.

I acquired FM2012 last night, installed some facepacks, logopacks and whatever (which I had never done before - actually makes it considerably better), and got down to business with Watford.

Began the season, did all my training, sorted out some decent coaches and scouts, sent the scouts off the Europe, sorted out some tactics and had a look at my squad. The squad was actually very strong for the most part - good keeper, defence, CMs and striking options. The only weak points were the wings, as in real life. Decided to go for a 4-2-3-1, just because I always have found formations with attacking mids in FM to be more effective. 4-1-2-1-2 is one I have often used before, but I have got bored with. So, 4-2-3-1 it was, and is, for now.

By the end of the window, my ins and outs were as follows:

Out: Gilmartin (£60k).Thompson, Mingoia, Massey and Assombalonga on season long loans.

Ins: Andros Townsend (Loan), Davide Petrucci (Loan), Salaheddine Sbai (Free), Stephen Jordan (Free), Kelvin Etuhu (Free), Jonathon Franks (£425k), Sisi (£475k).

Big shout out to Etuhu and Sisi, who have both dominated the wings. Sisi has 5 assists and two goals in five, Etuhu has three goals in five. Franks is constantly injured and will be going in January, as will one of my three Championship standard LBs. Petrucci has been good for me in the hole, but is made of glass.

My scouting knowledge is zilch so I can hardly find any decent players, but I've done well so far. Won all my pre-season games, including Sunderland away, and have 5 league victories from 7 so far.

Hilarious moment of the game so far - A Martin Taylor hat-trick, and being my top scorer, with a mighty 4 goals. Home to Nottingham Forest, Taylor scored three goals from corners at the far post in a 3-1 victory. For the love of God, if you areplaying as Watford, hit them all to the far post and have Taylor at the far post to head them in. He is a machine.

Currently 5th, 2 points off the top, with the opening day 3-1 away loss to Leicester seeming a long time ago now.

 

Yeah, Taylor was my top scorer with 10 goals in my first season! All headers from corners too. In fact he scored about 8 in the first 8 games, and then tailed off.

 

Taylor is scoring for fun on my game too. all headers mind you. currently in January and am sitting in 5th. getting annoyed with my players getting the hump with their training schedule though.

 

Nice start PotGuy, but just curious, how did manage to afford those transfers and wages? I only started with about 500k - or has there been an update?

 

It has been tight - I'm currently £1.7k/week over my wage bill.

I chose mid-table as my expectation which gave me more money and a higher wage bill. I would assume you chose consolidation if you didn't have the same amount? I had about £15k free on the wage bill I think, and the leftover wage bill went into transfer money for Sisi.

As I say, it was a close call, but I've got a good squad now. Its too big really, I play one up front yet have Sordell, Garner, Franks, Iwelumo and Deeney. Got three good LBs too. Going to clear out anyone I don't use in January to tidy things up a bit, I like having a small squad.

I'm using the 12.04 update, or whatever it is. The most recent one.

 

In my 3rd season, lalana just rejected man united for bayern munich, and is captain of England...

 

Just completed my first season with Watford, and finished 3rd, and got promoted through a playoff final penalty shoot out. Delfouneso and Sordell were my stand out performers with 32 and 28 goals. Going to be a hard season in the prem.

 

Why the **** is Sordell scoring so much for everyone? He's ****e for me. Iwelumo on the other hand is my top scorer with 18

 

Sordell is doing **** for me AND so is Iwelumo. Sold Emu, in the prem now, just got my first win. Beat man city 2-0 at home. Thoroughly deserved. What a performance. Kevin du Bruyne you little gem! Sordell is my 5th choice striker, his stats are just awful. Have they improved for any of you?

 

I can't remember what they started at so not sure if they've improved. But he won Championship young player of the year for me.

 

Does anyone know if they've sorted out the intel graphics cards issues yet? Haven't bought my copy and will probably have to leave it if they don't resolve it as my laptop's got a built in Intel HD graphics card, grrrr!

 

Just beat West Ham 2-1 in the Play-Off final. God won't let me expand the stadium but my transfer budget is like £11m.

In other hilarious news, QPR have been relegated and Sean Dyche has been appointed their new manager :]]

It doesn't work on mine but that's just mine. When I was on their forum they had no idea why it wasn't working.
Download the Demo and see if that works. Most of the people that have problems are trying to run it on MACs. So they've got several problems really.

 

I'm on a mac and the 3D match engine is ok, but not great. I don't watch matches like that though, as I think the 3D match engine this year sucks. It's all about 2D classic!

 

Any ideas who I can sign for my Watford team in the Premiership? Going to need to strengthen pretty much all areas, or else I'm ****ed.

 

Haven't got my game loaded up atm but I'm 7 games into my premiership season and have signed some quality players. I will load it up in a few hours after I've done this work. I will let you know. What database size did you go for?

 

Medium. Just approached Nosworthy on a free, may sell Iwelumo despite being my top scorer, looking at other players on frees. Also made bids for Michael Johnson and Craig Mackail-Smith

 

I beat West Ham in playoffs too, allbeit on Penalties. Signed Vossen, who looks good but hasn't performed in my first 2 games. I've lost 1 and won one scoring 3 goals. All three were scored by my right mid, who I think is De Las Cuevas (will confirm spelling when I go on next)

 

On a related matter, is it essential to play with either a playmaker or target man or both? I assume that if you choose to have a target man/poacher combination up front you really need to be playing a more direct style of play? And if you choose to use a playmaker then the player assigned to it needs to be in either the advanced or deep lying playmaker roles?

 

I think it's very important to play with a target man upfront (heading, jumping, strength all important) as they can hold up the ball and feed it onto your poacher etc. I haven't actually assigned a playmaker to the team yet, but I got promoted in 2nd place so maybe it's not as important as it's cracked up to be.

I wouldn't say that having a target man equals a direct style of play. I start with short passing play yet always have a target man on the pitch. As I say, they can just play with their back to goal and hold off other players before feeding the ball through to a team mate.
