I think it's more likely a bucket list thing for Hamilton. Ferrari are the name in motorsport and motorsport history. To say you've been a Ferrari driver is a big thing. Plus the red overalls look cool.

Good article by F1's Mark Hughes saying that AN desire to leave Red Bull is personal, with perhaps the key bit of information being (something I wasn't aware of ) that the woman involved in the Horner scandal also served as PA to Newey.
