Not underestimating Birmingham, but I think this would be the perfect game to unleash Asprilla. I think Birmingham will be lucky to escape relegation this year and Asprilla should be the perfect headache and creative link we have been missing.

Same formation as last time please:

    Bachmann

    Gaspar
    Sierralta
    Kabasele
    Cathcart as LB

    Choudhury
    Kayembe
    Asprilla

    Sarr
    Davies
    Pedro

I'd be surprised to see Asprilla start, I imagine his first start will be again MK Dons.

I assume it will be a midfield of Choudhury, Kayembe and Gosling.

If we continue to win without having many shots on target, at what point would it stop being luck? 5 wins? 10?

Exciting times. You're probably right but that midfield has all the creativity of a Big Mac.

I hope it will be a tremendous show provided by both teams.

Congratulations to all those who make it possible for the town of Watford to vibrate again in each play of our national sport!

In the end, I hope the fans, sports & physical culture and Watford FC will be victorious.

Their central midfielders are 18 and 19. I'd say it's a good opportunity to give Asprilla a game

I think we have only won one of the 2 games where we had minimal attempts on goal, just about holding on for a draw in the other. We won’t win the next 5 if we only have one shot on target in each game, so no need to worry about the answer to your question.

So does this explain what happens to our players after their final 5 year contracts expire and they hit 40?!?

    Mooney slipped through thankfully.

Someone (maybe on here?) did say Sarr was hobbling around a bit on Friday after the game.

First away game of the season for me so looking forward to it, hope the news re Sarr injury is not true - to end up without him Dennis or Pedro tonight screams 1-0 Brum.

And if we win the next...3, having fewer shots on target than the opposition, will it still be luck?

Very much so. We can't go through the season having less attempts on goal in every match than our opponents and expect to finish in the top 2.
Wins breed confidence, and confidence and belief can improve performances so I hope that is which way we are heading.
If a neutral watched WBA vs WFC, WFC vs Burnley, and Hull vs Norwich, despite the results you'd think the other 3 teams had better immediate prospects than us. Our points haul is great but performances will need to improve if we are going to continue to accumulate at that rate.

Fair enough, I disagree. I think it was pretty clear to see what the tactics have been so far. RE trusted our defence to withstand what the best sides have to offer, and backed them to defend a goal, that he trusted our very good attackers to score.

West Brom it seemed the idea was sacrifice the midfield, rely on a very wasteful West Brom team to continue being wasteful, and win the game on the counter. This would have worked perfectly if Sarr converted his penalty. Risky one though as WBA certainly had the better chances.

Sheff Utd and Burnley we successfully kept at arm's length, apart from 10 mins where we held on slightly with 10 men against Burnley. You'll usually have fewer shots on target when you're defending a lead against a good side, and we've been defending the lead for about 45% of the minutes we've played so far.

We fully deserve the points we've got so far, imo.

I can get onboard with that theory for the 2 home games but WBA was just a poor, poor performance in which we were outclassed. Suggestion that was a game plan and the point was deserved is not correct imo.

Yes we agree on most things but I think we need to agree to disagree on this one :). I think if we hadn't been "lucky", we'd have lost by 3 or 4 at WBA and maybe got away with a 0-0 at home to Burnley.
Anyway hopefully we will be indisputably the better side tonight, create more chances, and win.
    1-1 it is.

I do not have a good feeling on this one. The transfer speculation, injuries, Troy and performances to date do not fill me with optimism for this game. I can hear RE's post match interview where he refers to the disruption caused by the transfer speculation and the fact that we are building and learning, and he will go on to say that they are working ever so hard and that they all recognise the areas that they need to work on and we will come away stronger from this set back. He will praise the effort of "the boys". Troy's interview will be focusing on whether he was right to celebrate and he will say "you gotta celebrate scoring a goal mate".

On the other hand, maybe Davis and a fully committed Pedro (who confirms he will be signing a new and improved contract pre match) will tear Brum apart and we dominate possession throughout the game.

I don't think it was the correct game plan, and I accept that if West Brom could finish we would've lost comfortably. No complaints if we lose 3-1.

But it's not luck that we've got one of the better keepers in the league, and an attack capable of the counter that lead to the penalty. That was pretty standard finishing based on WBA last season, so I can see Rob's thinking, if that was the plan.

Balance of the game WBA deserved it more than us, but as we missed a penalty to win it, I don't think a draw is massively unfair.

If you were an Albion fan that day you'd of been in bits. It should of been over and done in the first half.
But we definitely had the luck that night and as you said even snatched a win.
We will play better than the Albion game and lose as will Albion play worse and win. That's football.
What we need is a solid win tonight and that winning mentality increases throughout which is what's needed.

If you could point out where I said the performance was planned, go ahead. I don't think we planned to allow so many clear cut chances, or planned to be so wasteful in possession.

I'm saying it's not impossible that Edwards planned to soak up pressure and hit on the break, sacrificing the midfield battle to do so.

That makes sense, we had no midfield that game. A two man barrier of Cleverley and Kayembe was never going to halt any attack. How we got away with a point is purely down to luck and Bachmann performing heroics in goal. I think we might feel the void of having no Kamara tonight, but if Davis can slot in well then Cathcart should do alright as makeshift replacement.

Have a bad feeling about this one & I hope I'm proved wrong but it just has the makings of one of those games which we struggle. That's based on absolutely nothing really but still.
