Not having much faith in Mercedes ?

And Ferrari happy to let Sainz go - how motivated will he be for the season coming up now?

I think it's more likely a bucket list thing for Hamilton. Ferrari are the name in motorsport and motorsport history. To say you've been a Ferrari driver is a big thing. Plus the red overalls look cool.

30 years on from the tragic double death of Senna and Roland Ratzenberger at Imola.

Remember watching the accidents as a kid.

Probably my "first where were you" moments

Was well in the race with a good strategy before the safety car which helped I guess but then had the pace to hold off Verstappen.

Gets the monkey of no wins off his back too .

Chuffed for Norris, his win aside it was a thoroughly entertaining race

I want to believe that there might actually be a fight on for the rest of the season, but I'm highly sceptical and think McLaren's win was down to the perfect combination of circumstances that helped them.

No doubt they've made incredible progress with their upgrades, but once again the Red Bull defeat came in a sprint weekend. With three practice sessions to tune the car, I'd wager they would have dialled it in better and had more pace. Also, the track's very low tyre wear took away one of their advantages. And lets not forget the safety car helped massively - clearly Lando was quicker in the latter part of the race, but without the SC he'd have had to have passed Perez and both Ferraris before catching and passing Max. The speed of the Red Bull on the straights even without DRS was still significant so I'm not sure he'd have been able to do it.

But the gains they've made really have embarrassed Mercedes right now who clearly have no idea how to build a decent car in this ground effect era.

I suspect we will just find McLaren and Ferrari fighting for 2nd behind Red Bull (well Verstappen ) most weeks maybe getting good fortune time to time and be able to take advantage as they are closer at least whilst Peres is just a bit hopeless.

Mercedes and Alonso Martin behind them.

Yeah that's pretty much my thoughts. Can't see much overtaking happening at Imola and then it's the crapfest that is Monaco so qualifying really important for the next two meaning Mercedes are even more screwed unless their planned Imola upgrade actually works.

Trouble is they're so far back whatever upgrade package Mercedes bring will be getting them up to whatever level the other big teams were hitting early last autumn.

Due one at the next race I think but no doubt that will be totally hopeless or work in one session but then not the next.
