Decent race shaping up here, aside from the one for 1st place of course

Yes - almost need a separate Championship and threat of rain.

Shame for Norris his race was ruined on lap one .

Barcelona's often a good GP. Baffles me why all the new tracks they keep building are tedious street circuits with fast blind corners and limited overtaking opportunities. I know F1 is chasing money by setting up in places like Jeddah and Las Vegas, but surely they should only be allowing the best track designs.

They took out a chicane for this year to make better racing but the trouble is Red Bull are just so good and as you say are cars scared to pass on some tracks due to it being so tight .

F1 has boxed itself into a corner for years chasing revenue options over exciting races .

They need a complete overhaul of the sport to make it a contest between humans instead of machines .

An interesting comparison is with chess which many predicted would die a death when computers overtook humans , but then the converse happened with chess now being played by more people than ever .

I guess it's much like Ferrari in the 00s.

Mercedes in the 2010s once Vettel left Red Bull.

Trouble is even the in driver competition is so one sided too.

Such a watchable sport at the moment F1, innit?

    Got all that?

Meanwhile Max sends everyone to sleep with another win.

    Happened all weekend .

Obviously an issue with the track kerb.

Can they channel the kerb or add something like a raised edge?

Apparently the track is more suited to Moto GP.

But as it’s Red Bull’s track they will keep going to Austria.

Verstappen did actually not lead for about 2 laps !

Only after a pit stop though .

Gravel traps is the physical answer, but that's crap safetywise for the bikes.

Only way to fix it is to disable the electric boost system for a lap until the use the right part of the track on the next time round. But that needs an automatic detection rather than camera review. Must be doable with some sort of sensor system.

Watching indycar this weekend, gravel traps aren't great for openwheel cars either!

I think the answer is to start the grass (or astro) right at the edge of the kerb, rather than tarmac beyond it. It reduces traction enough to dissuade drivers, but doesn't dig in causing accidents.

    Very sad indeed .

    Particularly so young .

Spa is iconic but dangerous it seems.

Nice to see a British 1-2 in the British GP.

I mean might as well be a different Championship.

Yeah, I think Perez is toast. A dream #2 (and he definitely is a #2) and gets disrespected. Now he's struggling, they have the perfect narrative.

Upgrades are too late to change where the title is going but things are getting far more competitive

And they are all inconsistent and unreliable so don’t really get a steady run of results .

Only Verstappen is which is why he is so dominant.

Agreed. Watched yesterday as I hoped for a Ferrari surprise but as soon as Max overtook I turned off and went and mowed the lawn. It was more exciting.

Think I'm done with it. Sky's coverage is excellent (apart from Nico Rosberg), but the interest just isn't there for me anymore. I've got better things to do at the weekend than spend hours watching a rigged procession. My Sky contract is up and I think I'm cancelling.

Sad because I've been an avid fan since before the Mansell/Murray Walker days.

The race behind was actually quite interesting and competitive but alas people want to see a race for the win.

Not the minor places every time.

And even now Perez seems to have got his act together to make it a Red Bull 1-2.

Interestingly the interview on the BBC is much more magnanimous:
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/formula1/66704998
It's hard to disagree with anything he's said.

Monza is boring as a spectacle though, there's only one overtaking point and even that is only half an opportunity thanks to the general nature of chicanes and the racing line. Anything else is just capitalising on a mistake or overtaking in the pits. Mugello and Imola are better circuits.

His own team and it's huge budget is part of the problem. The playing field is so imbalanced as with many sports thanks to a few very rich teams altering and trying to control the rules in their favour. Toto can toto as far as I'm concerned. It's so less ab out the driver than the car. Where is Bottas now ? Remember Hill in the Brabham before winning a title with Williams. He was their test driver but still. It's all rather tedious. One prays for rain for some interest and even with moderate rain the driver's don't want to drive. It's all a huge yawnfest. Sky can bore off too.

Watching Verstappen dominate as much as he has has been enjoyable. Love the radio messages between him and his guy in the pits. Perez has got the same car but is no where near him, the consistency Max is showing is phenomenal, he usually dominates on sim racing too which is crazy. If you ignore Max flying off to win the rest of the racing is pretty tight with some good action.

I can only remember a few seasons where one team or driver didnt dominate to be honest and most of those were in the 80s, I have been a fan of the sport since the early 80s.

    Exactly .

They will want someone to at least compete with Alonso .

If Verstappen wins today from this situation given his comments and Red Bull’s performance then we might as well give up !

The stewards giving Max the best chance to get some points, how did he not get at least 1 grid place penalty?
