Too much news coverage over this. Have a distinct feeling a struggling Prem team will come in for him
Having reliable confirmation is useful though. The Portuguese press is pretty unreliable and often jump the gun.
Normally I would agree, however with Helena Costa’s connection to Benfica, I don’t think this deal will be scuppered. Most of the time by the time it’s been made public, the information we’re getting is behind where the actual deal is. The news is saying he’s flying to England today, when that story broke 2 hours ago, he was probably already on the plane/in England. The deal will be further along than what we know.
He’s not reliable though. He just regurgitates what’s already out there and charges you for an “exclusive” or “breaking news” that he’s stolen from someone else.
Im not really sure that is fair. I agree he clearly doesnt have his finger on the pulse any more as Gino et al have frozen him out. However he does clearly speak to people etc to authenticate rumours / reports from less reliable sources. There is a difference between the Portugese press reporting that Watford are close to signing someone and Adam confirming the deal is agreed.
I look forward to the egg landing on my face - but was told very reliably that this was done and completed this morning.
If Benfica are so keen on him getting a starting spot and regular playing time then it seems unlikely they'd send him to a PL club instead.
Given his nationality and Wolves having no actual strikers, that seemed like it could have been a sensible option, but glad we got in there first.
He’s a Mendes player isn’t he? In which case I don’t think it was getting in first, probably more that one of either party doesn’t think he’s ready to save a relegation threatened team
Certainly an exciting signing and one which would never happen without Manga/Costa I think we've needed a striker all season. When Davis is on it he's unstoppable but that's only been a handful of games. Needless to say Bayo and Manaj are not even close to the level.
Getting train to Bournemouth from Charing Cross mate . Or the Megabus from Victoria pending timetable upheavals .
I really like Davis, but I can't help but feel he was signed to play with a strike partner rather than up top on his own. That was the plan at the start of the season and changed when we changed coach / formation. Having a more well rounded 9 would certainly add a lot to this side.
I need minute by minute updates on Araujo's location today. Has his 'flight to London' landed yet? Has he boarded an onwards flight? Has he be seen at the training ground? Has he been seen in Columbia Press clutching a piece of paper and looking relaxed? My sources have run dry on this one, so need some of the other ITKs to step up today.
Wouldn’t surprise me at all Burnsy. As I stated earlier the deals are always further along than what will be made public. So I would go with your source being right. Welcome Araujo.
I’ve ordered a Portuguese flag in hope that he might notice me at a game. So this better go through otherwise it’s £4.99 (+P&P) down the drain.
I asked about him on my weekly call with my Portuguese team today. Both are Benfica fans and said they prefer him over Ramos (Benficas main striker and likely to move for £50m/60m in the next 6 months). I asked why Watford and not another Portuguese side or Wolves and they said they have a feeling that Benfica want him at a team that's going to attack and will give him confidence, which rules out pretty much every team in the Portuguese top flight other than Braga/Sporting/Porto (most teams play very defensively) and is unlikely to get that at a struggling PL side as well. Pretty bemused as to how we've pulled this off in all honesty.
Not when it’s Benfica’s main media outlet. The least Adam could do is at least quote them. Doesn’t take much to be humble in your tweets and say, as reported in The Record…
Our best performances - Stoke, Norwich (x2) and Luton - have been with Davis in the team. He's excellent.
Genuinely interested when that was? There are issues in his game and the £15m buyout clause is an odd one, but I think he has been one of our better players this season.
Good little read https://proxima-jornada.com/2023/01...-benfica-forward-set-to-join-watford-on-loan/ edit: link is also here https://mobile.twitter.com/ProximaJornada1/status/1616074463870590978
I think you would expect more than 4 goals in 18 games in the Championship for a supposedly player valued at £15m. Even Bayo has scored 4 in less minutes on the pitch!
