Do Statsbomb have data from the Portuguese second division? I’d have thought there is a sample size issue for his Liga Nos/Champions League mins.
Benfica fans seem confused that they are letting him go and reckon he is good enough for their first team So seems like he could be a good option for 6 months but likely no chance at all of making the move permanent
Seems pretty mad that a player with an £88 million pound buy out clause could be loaned out to the Championship but if he's as good as that price tag suggests then I'm all for it.
My Dad used to bring a box of these home every Friday from a bakery in Temple Fortune I think. I love them, haven't had one in years. Mary Berry's daughter plays tennis in Oxfordshire. She usually brings the cakes!
Reminds of back when I used to live in Japan. There was a cafe in Hiroshima dedicated entirely to Henrique Araujo, which was utterly bizarre. Even stranger is that this was several years ago when Araujo would still have been a child. The Japanese have their own way of doing things.
I hate those clauses, if he arrives and doesn't adapt we are lumbered. You either have to play him and effect results in a negative way or pay a large fine. As good as he maybe, I'd say no to this. Although - we do need someone and who else can we get right now that's good enough?
Even if he is just coming is cover for Davis he will probably hit this given his injury record. Doubt we have to go massively out of our way to avoid it anyway. I dont like the idea of it massively but £1m isnt the absolute end of the world if he isnt as good as thought and it means we dont have to see Bayo.
Not sure why it’s a problem if we have to pay them a small fee if he doesn’t play enough - this is a club that has committed a huge fee for Davis if we go up. And was happy to agree to a similar deal for Ozan Tufan. What Benfica seemingly want for this deal is peanuts by comparison.
And we’d only waste it somewhere else ! With our injury record he is probably taking his own risk coming here .
I agree. Any club who doesn't blink an eyelid at paying £5m for Bayo and £5m on Okoye would certainly be comfortable with paying a penalty fee of £1m if he doesn't play 75% of matches. I think to qualify he only has to play 45 minutes to class as an appearance. Clearly injuries and suspensions should not count towards this, but hopefully that is made clear in the terms. Also, hopefully as part of the deal, potential play off matches count too. So, potentially he has a maximum of 21 games he could appear in. Probably won't get the deal done in time for Rotherham now, so it's really a possible 20 matches. He would have to appear for 45 minutes in 15 of those games to avoid a penalty clause, or just 7.5 matches in total playing time. It's really down to backing your judgement. Do you think he will rip it up or be a flop? That's basically the decision the board have to make. If they are in negotiations, I think that answers that question really.
He's on his way to London (per Telegraph) so imagine we've agreed to pay + decent chance he can train tomorrow and feature Saturday!
Would much prefer a progressive system, i.e. a €1m loan fee, reduced by €1000 for every minute he plays (or something along those lines).

Henrique Araújo travels to England this Thursday, according to Record. The Benfica striker will even be loaned to Watford. With no room in Roger Schmidt's options, it was decided that the best thing would be for the player to be able to leave to play more regularly. And the expectation is that this will happen in the emblem of the second tier of English football. As our newspaper reported, the Luz club intended to include a clause that would oblige Henrique Araújo to be used for at least 45 minutes in at least 75 percent of Watford's games. And, if that didn't happen, the English would pay one million euros to Benfica. A clause to which Watford officials turned up their noses and which the Benfica SAD dropped, as it did not intend to delay the player's move to England. edit: article also states this; In this way, the 21-year-old will already travel to England today, where he will complete the medical tests before being official as a Watford reinforcement until the end of the season.
