I have no idea what that free kick was in aid of. I thought that Chalobah? Was entitled to challenge for it, it wasn't that high but the fact that the ref saw something, I can't understand why it wasn't a penalty. For me Chalobah was MOTM just edging out Dacoure. What a midfield pairing they are at the moment. Cleverly played his roles well enough in the circumstances. I agree that Kabesele had a good game and I have long thought that he is good centre back who needs a run. Injuries are a concern with him though. Richarlison has been targeted for the last two games and although he is robust enough to take it, I feel that he has lacked attacking impetus. Amrabat was booed when his name was announced but I thought that he did ok but was still ponderous at times. Gray was pretty anonymous. Didn't make the right runs looking flat footed at times. I felt he Expected the defender to miss headers with his intention to nip in behind but this never happened. He look lacking in energy at the end. Britos! Well he should not have been played at left back for a start. Full backs need pace. He hasn't got the engine to run up the line to give options when attacking, you could see that within the first 5 minutes. The tackle was pretty much in front of us and you could see it coming a mile off. I think he did it out of desperation, he was determined not to be beaten but had no was to stop that little sh*t other than what happened. Full back is not his position. Unless Silva was proving a point to Gino that we need a left back, he should have used Mason. It is Mason's position and he has pace, he need to get matches in and at least if he made a mistake you could put it down to experience but playing Britos there was a massive mistake. Brighton used the extra man to attack us but fortunately couldn't score. In hindsight it was a hard won point for us and I hope it will be used to build team spirit.
What sort of logic is play a square peg in a round hole because the round peg isn't really round enough yet
Britos is a better option at LB than Mason. I think that is pretty clear given the two players' performances in that position last season. Had Mason played today up against Knockaert we would have probably lost.
Well clearly on todays showing Britos isn't the better option is he, and with 11 players on the pitch we would probably have won
That's like saying Alou Diarra would have been a better option than Zidane to start the 2006 World Cup Final because Diarra wouldn't have headbutted Matterazzi and got sent off.
Mason would have been destroyed by Knockaert today There was no easy choice for the LB issue today, without knowing that Britos would do such a stupid thing, he was probably the best choice on paper
True that particular incident I don't even think it was a free kick, he had a right to go for it and seemed to pull away if anything,
Very naive for them to be be pleased with a point today This league is ruthless, if they can't get wins, or even a goal, on a day like today then they are in huge trouble
When was that? Silva didn't select him at all. In the middle of a crisis at left back he didn't even merit selection on the bench.
Didn't think Carillo was the right sub to make. Didn't do anything wrong and had one nice run, but hard to imagine Capoue or Success would not have done more. The lad has hardly had time to learn anyone's name. And why was Cathcart even on the bench? Clearly not fit.
I think it's more the fact that it was their first point in the Premier League! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't think Britos really made much contact with him, but you're right that was inches away from a sickening injury. Not pretty. From where I was sat, it looked destined to nestle perfectly in the corner and Gomes has had to react very quickly and get down very low to get a finger on it. Maybe it was an easier save than it looked but I was impressed. Aerially I thought he made a couple of rash decisions. He came out to punch a couple of times when the ball was met by a head before it reached him, luckily a Watford head each time but it just took a Brighton player to get across his man and it was an open goal. Agree Cleverley's energy was key. It was important against Liverpool two weeks ago at the front and today he showed how disciplined he was by slotting in. Didn't know whether to get tight or stand off but I wouldn't exactly expect him to tbh. I thought Okaka should have had a look-in as well. He was a menace against Liverpool and hasn't been seen since. Sends out the wrong message imo. Good performances should be rewarded. And Dunk + Duffy would have had a much tougher day had he been up there on his own! Richarlison was probaly our most threatening player this afternoon, despite my slight grievances with his performance. He has the potential to be superb one day and raw talent to be a match winner now. I hope he develops in the way we all hoped Success would.
Agree. I suspect that Gray is about 3 games away from becoming a boo boy as well judging from the grumbling around me!
I'm at a festival today and even Tinie Tempah mentioned how bad Amrabat was during his 'set'. Speaks volumes.
Britos played in the 'wrong position' a number of times last season and didn't get sent off once when playing there. Your argument is based on the idea that Silva should have seen into the future and known that Britos was going to be sent off.
Perfectly logical. Britos is not a left back. Always going to get tempted by Knockhaert into a rash challenge. Brighton play through Knockhaert. Mason is quicker than Britos and is a left back. He's played in the first team before and done well. Play Britos as a centre back next to him and if needed as a senior pro, help coach him through the game. We only needed Mason for one game and then he can continue his education maybe out on loan. But as a senior pro with a lot of experience, Britos should not have committed such a challenge.
Okay maybe he did then! Relatively speaking then, he didn't make as much contact as he could have done!
Britos is shocking when played left back. He ok as the left of a back 3 but that's not the same. In a back 3 you have a quick wing back to support and double up. Brighton play with wingers. Britos is slow and turns like an oil tanker, the cheating little vermin was always going to do him for pace. I groaned when I saw Britos on the team sheet because it was obvious to me it was not going to end well.
In League One or Two, because that's the level he's at currently. And he didn't do well in the first team when he played there before. He was poor and at fault for goals and only got an easy ride because he's young, inexperienced and put in a bit of an effort in an awful side who didn't give a ****.
You'll have to elaborate on those wrong positions. I remember him playing left of a back theee not full back. Under Silva's system the fullbacks have to get forward to provide an option, beat a player and be able to cross. They also need to get back quickly into position to defend when a move breaks down. Britos doesn't tick any of these boxes. As a centre back Britos is very good, he can mark and tackle well and not many opposition players beat him to a header but get in behind him and he'll stand no chance. This is exactly what happened today forcing him into that challenge but then he should not have been played there.
Seen a lot of people get over excited Re. Kabasele Good game today but was shocking against Bristol City, also still has a habit of going to ground too often. Good backup but a better partner for Prodl is still needed
Off the top of my head, versus Arsenal at the Emirates when we won 2-1 and he personally played very well.
Britos is an idiot. There was no need to make that sort of rash tackle. Although BHA missed a hat full of chances I thought we played well, especially Prodl, Kabaselle, Doucoure and Chalobah. Not sure why people we getting on Amrabats case, he had a decent first 15. Gray could have done more to take some of the pressure off of the team, but it's unfair to judge him, as a loan striker, in a 10 v 11 Brighton will struggle. As soon as Cathcart went off Hughton should have doubled up against Cleverley, instead he did nothing.
You yourself called it a bad selection before ko I thought (can't be bothered to check back) how, having been proven right have you decided the opposite.
Arsenal played a narrow 4231 at that stage last season, only later did they try 343 Brighton play with wingers
