Nath? Nath? All those unimpressed in off season. What do u think now. When are u gonna start believing in our owners. We played like we played in the championship when the pozzos took over. IN THE PREM. Some of u need to realise these boys know what they r doing. Great turnaround so exciting. Nath say something positive comon let it out.
Capoue is currently the highest scoring player in the official FPL game! 3 goals and an assist. Plus 2 goals in pre season friendlies. And I thought it was meant to be forwards whose output improved dramatically under Walter!
Agreed all goals good and normally Caps strike would be goal of the game but Troys finish was sublime.
As I said on the shoutbox at the time, I was certain 100% that was floating over the bar. I reckon the Spam defenders did for a moment too. I had to double take when it was in the back of the net.
After a terrible start where our defense looked so vulnerable, it took serious character and commitment to come back and score 4- we didn't really look threatened at all in the second half and probably could have doubled that scoreline. I thought Kaboul added an extra dimension to our defence with his runs forward- strong in the air but not afraid to bring the ball out. Cathcart was a little sluggish at times though and I wonder whether Proods might be a better bet in that position. Capoue has been our most improved player this season so far, if he can continue to realise his potential we've got a real star on our hands- I'm just hoping he doesn't fade after a positive start like last year. Behrami has also been very solid in this midfield, and Pererya could be the best player we've ever had here- he really does add something special to the side. The two wing-backs almost changed roles; I thought Holebas had a terrible first half while Janmaat looked quality. Second half it was Holebas who suddenly looked more confident while Janmaat became more wasteful in possession. Still looks better defensively than Amrabat though, although if he's not injured I thought it was harsh that the Moroccan didn't even make the bench. Ighalo was much better today- I've been the first to criticise him recently but when he got his act together after missing an absolute sitter at 2-0, the whole team improved. Deeney was a bit more lively too, although there's still more to come from him. Took his goal exquisitely. Finally our subs both showed some encouraging signs- Success looks like he'll be a real handful and will push the strikers hard for a place. Likewise Okaka, who looks much more mobile than I expected for a fat lad.
Capoue seems to be moaning less this season - I think bagging a couple of goals has brought out a bit of confidence in his playing.
Capoue is our Hamsik. He did by one minute - ha. For this reason alone, even if we continue with the annoying 3-5-2, I already prefer having Mazzari as our manager than QSF. Even if we end up with a similar number of points at the end of the season, at least we'd have had some drama along the way.
Deeney's finish was sublime. As for Capoue, looking from the angle behind the ball and pereyra, the way Capoue spun his body as he chested the ball to set himself up was amazing technique.
Re the 3-5-2 debate, we did look pretty awful at the back in the first half. However, one could play Devil's Advocate and say we actually conceeded one more goal at West Ham last year with a flat back four! (Though circumstances were different I admit). And today we had our first goal from a wingback under the system.
I liked the way that Success, on a run into the box from the side towards the end, went past a West Ham defender like he wasn't there. Just ignored him. Unfortunately he ran into trouble straight after and there didn't seem to be anyone else in the box at the time. Sweet move though. He definitely looks like he has plenty of potential. Where was Kenedy by the way? I'd expected a cameo today. Can't be properly up to speed yet, but a surprise after a 2 week break with Mazzari that he didn't make the bench at least.
I have to admit you fooled me there for a minute, I could have sworn I hadn't seen that before! Pretty cunning to take advantage of the ten minute window to edit posts before the "edited by..." shows up.
For all the talk of our poor fitness levels, it's worth noting we've not conceeded a second half goal in our last two matches. In fact, it's the starts we need to be working on!! We are also a point up on the same stage last season!
In fairness to Flores, he did do a decent job for us last season during our first season back up. One thing that Flores is/was probably better at than Mazzarri is holding onto leads (last season we only failed to win four times after leading, this season it's been three already), but whilst I feel we should move on and avoid too many unfavourable comparisons between the two, I think it's already fair to say that Mazzarri is ahead of him in every other respect.
I believe Flores did a great job in making us hard to beat up until Christmas. Those early points in the bag, followed by the four wins in a row during Ighalo's purple patch laid the firm foundations for relatively easy survival. But he couldn't build on it. So far Mazzarri looks a more attacking coach, more willing to take risks and more willing to change things during a match. More of a Zola whereas Flores was maybe more Beppe or Garcia had he stayed longer. The challenge for Walter will be to sort the defence because, while today was a terrific and exciting win, there were periods of the match where West Ham could have been out of sight. A fantastic 'we will score more than you' kind of match that we will all remember for weeks to come, but maybe not always guaranteed to ensure easy survival. Muff won 4-3 at West Ham last August I recall! I'm very excited about the season ahead!
Oh how good it is to watch a team who know how to attack. How I missed exciting football!!! Still question marks over us defensively but as long as we're scoring I don't mind, I'll take that over the turgid football from last season 100%. Onwards and upwards
Bizarre game. We were totally outplayed in the first half. WH were quicker on the ball, cut through our midfield with no trouble at all, scored with a free header and a great goal and I thought we'd be lucky to get away with 5-0. Then Ig scored out of nothing, Troy scored a great goal following defensive chaos and WH fell apart. Half the crowd had left with ten minutes to go, reflecting their team' s lack of spirit on the pitch. We could and should have scored more in the second half. Great save with his foot by Gomes before they scored but Behrami was the only player to come out of it with credit before Troy scored. Not impressed with Jaanmat or Kaboul, but Success and Okako looked good. Maybe the Belgian journalist was wrong. Looking forward to MOTD
Yes you did. Apparently they were also jumping into the Watford fans fighting them. According to a lot of the sports news outlets, it took stewards and police 5 minutes to even get involved. I hope the FA punish them in the worst way possible by making them play in empty stadium for the rest of the season, give them a 20 point deduction and put a transfer embargo on them for the next three seasons. Of course none of this will happen and they will be given a warning and a £100,000 fine, only for them to beat up some more away fans at their next home game. Disgusting pathetic little club that think they are more than what they are. No place in football for this sort of stuff.
When the fixtures came out, I always believed it would be good to go to the London Stadium early on. After only a handful of friendlies, a short and failed Europa campaign, and one league match against Bournemouth, it can't yet properly feel like a home stadium to West Ham. Not yet a fortress.
Those who were there: what was the ground like. From what I saw "somewhere" it looks like 'they've' (sic.) built a few rows of seats sloping down to the edge of the pitch. I spent two afternoons there for the olympics and paraolympics (where the stadium wasn't too bad for sight lines and atmosphere) and a rugby match (which was disastrous).
Cracking performance. Looked very static to begin with. No tempo and pedestrian passing. We really struggle under high pressure and of course down the flanks. Going forward we look to be finding a really urgency and rhythm. Pereyra very classy, it's great to see bodies getting in the box with more than just the strikers chipping in for goals. If we can find a bit more balance defending the wide areas then I hope we can try to control games a lot more. Stewarding and West Ham fans were disgraceful. Some real inbreds up the top. **** poor stewarding making a right meal of it too. U can't have a tiny walkway with hopeless kids stewarding between fans. It's going to be mayhem when someone likes Spurs or Chelsea come to play. no clue what they were doing.
I watched from the comfort of the West Ham hospitality seats today, and it actually made it sweeter. Pie and mash included, watching the Watford fans go upside down for each of the goals, and witnessing real cockney depression first hand. There is no more diligent a set of fans when it comes to keeping a perfect stereotype of themselves. All dressed up in shirts and tight trousers and getting angry about their lives. Pereyra and Capoue are different gravy but nobody let themselves down today. Top day.
temporary seating built behind each goal not a bad view for away fans Atmospher was good for about 45 mins but remember it being much better when i was there as you for the Olympics and Paralympics
I was impressed with the emergency evacuation drill that occurred just after we went 4-2 up. It was very efficient and well observed, I thought.
Billy Bonds, John Lyall, Julian ****s, Tony Cottee, James Corden, Alf Garnett, Trevor Brooking and in particular those two helmets Sullivan and Gold, your team took one hell of a beating
