Leicester, boro both lost and Cardiff drew.

Massive massive let off for us really.

This is the Championship and there is still a third of it to go.

It's totally understand some people over react a bit each time we don't win because of their disappointment..

but this season has a long way to go yet.

Or a failure by us to take advantage?

Huge let off because we ought to have lost to palace.

Depends on how you looka t it; after todays results it looks even worse to me as it is a missed opportunity. And is a point ever a good outcome after being 2-0 up at home and in control?

Well, we shouldn't have really, not having been 2-0 up at home. We went to sh*t and through it away. It's not the end of the world by any means but it's still a shame.

This is why it is frustrating to see so much negativity around last nights result. as i said this morning, all the teams around us will have bad games and will drop points, just like us. But we have a better squad than most and more depth to cope with injuries, than most.

A draw would be good tonight, to keep Brighton away from the play-offs and to keep us within one point of 2nd place.:drinking:

Even with 10 point deduction still puts us 7th. Not saying it will happen. Just an observation.

I was fuming last night and really disappointed at us throwing away a two goal lead but after a few hours I realised that regardless of the circumstances a point at home to Palace isn't a bad result.

Today's results only go to reaffirm that, especially when you see the results that teams around us have got against much poorer sides.

As Zola said, we want to be 2nd in May.

2nd now would be nice but would guarantee nothing.

Personally, I think it's a weak championship this season and that's what makes it a bit frustrating us not being higher with more points right now. None of the relegated clubs have done anything, none of the promoted clubs have done anything, a lot of the so called bigger clubs have messed about with their managers or underachieved. Peterboro are bottom yet have beaten the Top 2. By common consent, Cardiff are a good team but do they merit a 10 point lead? I REALLY think, if we can put together a good run in the spring, 2nd place is there for the taking.

We're still third after all the matches played today. None of the top teams won today, so it was a very good point last night. Hull are still to play today, but whatever their result we have not lost any ground on teams around us. Even the chasing pack didn't win.

Er if Hull win, they've gained 2 points on us no?

Maybe so! And Leicester may live to regret losing to Peterboro, Charlton, Blackburn and Wolves, while Hull might be tearing their hair out over defeats to Peterboro, Blackburn, Sheff Wed etc.

If there are to be any regrets come May, the 4 points we lost in injury time v Blackpool, Blackburn and Cardiff are surely more poignant than two matches in which we never led after 70 minutes?

Even before the Hull result, this weekend demonstrates why the ridiculous thread a few months ago about "how many points we need to get promotion" was so way of the mark.

What matters is how we compare with everyone else in terms of squad quality...
...and, personally, I can't see many better than ours.

Not everyone alas - some poor old boy took a left hander on the chin outside the ground by the pub. Not sure who the geezer was but he was looking for trouble, the most embarrassing thing was that he had a youth with him (circa 14), he tried to wade through the palace fans leaving the ground in an aggressive manner, and when told to ease down, started sounding off, only to be greeted by a right hook (deserved in my eyes), someone stepped in to prevent it escalating - he then started screaming you've hit a kid da, da, da and then he called over the guy who had stopped it getting ugly and then decked him - if he was a Watford fan I am embarrassed to be associated, but talk was he was spouting off about being a Millwall fan and had come to the game to wind up palace...

Whatever the reason it was bang out of order!

No need to take offence :)

Interesting fact for you btw...We are the only side in the Top 4 NOT to have lost to Peterborough (yet). They've now beaten Cardiff, Leicester and Hull this season!

Peterborough are our friends. They don't moan about our loanees. They recognise this is a victory for the small club. If they cannot go up themselves, they will do their best to scupper our rivals. :]]

First opportunity to post after yesterday's game and a few observations:
    1. Palace got their 2nd half tactics spot on.
    2. We must learn how to kill a game off.
    2. Zola got his subs wrong. Vydra and Deeney should have come off for Eustace (to retake the midfield) and Geijo (to hold the ball up waiting for the midfield to link up).
    4. Hoban was superb throughout
    5. On that performance Palace must be favourites to beat us to second spot

And they gift us 90th minute penalties out of nothing :)

Correct. But it did force us to play quickly and lose the ball and therefore not counter them.

You could say 25 in 104 games for us, or you could say 21 in 44 league games (that he's been played in) since Marvin Sordell left on 31st January. That's less than a season worth of games and he's got 21 goals. Easy to twist statistics to make a player seem much better or worse than they are.

In reality, his goals per game record wasn't great for us when he was third choice and playing 20 minutes most games but since he's been starting it's been excellent.

There's a difference between being pedantic and inaccurate...

Anyway, it's been excellent to see this thread have so many posts. Is it worth me signing up to a couple of Birmingham forums to invite them over when the Birmingham thread is put up? It's been great having views from CPFC fans, made discussion much more interesting. Saying that, I'd like to hear pink/POSL's views on Holloway's comments!

definately. Its something that has caused us problems a few times this year. What worries me is that the squad at times have a tendancy to play like the games won before it actually is. We did it in the first half last night

    Please, never become an author.

I have no idea who decked whom. The old guy, the Millwall guy, the 14 year old, the guy who tried to calm things down, or all of them. Your story is a muddled mess.

This is the result I've been hoping for! Yeah, it's important to secure the play-offs before anything, but we really need to be pushing for automatic promotion and Brighton winning means that, even if Hull win their game in hand over us, we'll still only be 3 points behind.

Still undecided over whether I'm seeing this as two points lost or one point gained.

If we'd won, we'd be 10 points clear in the play-offs and 9 points off Cardiff. Think I'd be seeing it as a much better point if we hadn't thrown away the lead. Ah well, onwards and upwards. We got lucky with other results this week but we can't rely on others failing every week.

Today just underlines how inconsistant this league is. Second place is up for grabs. We are still third even after all the matches have played out today. Goal difference is all that separates us from the automatics. Promotion is in Watford's hands.

Both Leicester and Hull do have a game in hand, but we still have them both to play. Our destiny is in our own hands, without the fortunes of others to worry about.
