Team Firesale - Pozzo Out Vs Team Resigned Happy Clap

Which side are you on?

  1. Team Firesale

    19.4%
  2. Team Happy Clap

    24.7%
  3. Team Crying as Fessi didnt come back

    8.6%
  4. Team on the fence

    47.3%
  1. Pozzos are still in credit. They thing they got wrong was retaining the fans when they bought the club, it creates far too much noise and distraction.

  4. We were within a Deeney elbow to the face of doing it against the Arse.

That very moment, that split second, was the very peak of the Pozzo journey and it was all downhill from there :(

And the BBC have removed the comment, it would seem, sometime this pm. It acknowledged the Athletic as its source (I don't subscribe). TBF it was in their running article titled 'Gossip' .

That nonsense about promotion being the only goal. There won't be a squad to effectively challenge for promotion (out of necessity) so why be unrealistic about our prospects. By the end of the transfer window I think the team will have done very well to reach the playoffs by season's end. Just my view and it's a realistic one, not a negative one.

There is a big overlap. I'm a season ticket holder and get behind our XI every match. Never boo. I think the only time I've been disparaging is when I lost it at Cathcart for his 2 blunders in a minute against Everton and probably a couple of times at Success.

However, on here is my chance to let off steam as I think the ownership have been disastrous for 2 years now (I include the great Gracia season). They've given some good memories but I think when the accounts come out we'll see how much dung we are in. But however much you disagree with my views, don't be mistaken that I don't support the team the best I can at the ground as they are the XI we've put out for the team I love.

And if Pozzo turns it round this year or next from here I'll be happy to eat lots of humble pie and apologise for being misguided.

So, do you think it is good management to tell everybody, including those who might want to leave, and those we are trying to replace them with that we have given up on promotion? Wow! That is really going to retention and attract the better players with a bit of ambition to the club, let alone create the right atmosphere, isn't it!

    I despair sometimes. Unbelievable.

Some great memories, times and players brought in wearing the shirt. Made the Vic a nice venue to go to. However for all the good they’ve done the mercenaries now say on the sideline those mercenaries that were to far up there own arse that got us relegated is down to very poor recruitment false promises, side tracked with trying to expose a brand. If they stay is only going to happen again. The model needs changing and I really can’t see them changing

Why have I overreacted? You said that we won't have a squad that can tackle promotion. That is giving up before we have barely started and weeks before the end of the transfer window.

I think it is unbelievable you think that sort of losers attitude from the management is best when we have a tough challenge ahead. There is no overreaction from me.

And I don't often get it wrong as you suggest, as I don't often make simple predictions. For example, last season my main theme was that if we played to our ability, then we would stay up. The fact was, that we played way below our ability for most of the season, but were only relegated on the last day. That makes me right, not wrong. In my view, those poor performances were largely because our management had the mindset of "losers" and set us up negatively and we played tactically negatively, and rarely made positive substitutions.

I wouldn't have dug you out if you hadn't gone with the "unbelievable. I despair!" hyberbole. But let's face it you called last year completely wrong. In your world if every team fist pumped and said "Come On!" they'd all be challenging for Europe. Not really much interested in discussing as you will just make the same points over and over like in the Politics Forum (RIP), but you need to be realistic about what your squad (and indeed budget) can achieve. Anyway - agree to differ and move on.

I think we are in serious financial strife. That leads me to believe we'll have a midtable squad post rebalancing. You are welcome to disagree of course.

If you made any actual points other than droning on continuously and endlessly about how negative you are, a discussion may actually be worthwhile. But as you never do, we should just agree to differ, move on, and take your pal GD and his continual boring sarcasm, with you.

It would be interesting to compare the squad at the end of the window with the previous squads that took us up. It would need to be stronger than the Aidy and GT (MK2) squads if they expect promotion. Should be at least as strong as the 204/15 one. Seems very unlikely doesn't it!

I looked at the clubs with a capacity from 15,000 to 30,000 to compare our owner's success to others.
From the 2011/2012 season we have have the 4th best record out of 32 clubs in terms of league placings. Palace, Swansea and West Brom are ahead of us (When compared to clubs between 15,000 to 25,000 we have the 2nd best record out of 18.)
We have the best record in terms of semi final and final appearances (including play offs from all divisions).

A few have already mentioned this, but in terms of our history the Pozzos have given us 3rd, 7th,8th, 9th, 10th, 14th, 16th and 30th best season since 1881.
If we go from 1992 (which is when football really began) we have had the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 9th and 19th best seasons.

I'd say that probably gives us enough reason to cut the Pozzos some slack for the past 12 - 18 months where they have undoubtedly made some terrible decisions, particularly with management.

The chances of a relegated team being promoted is around 20% which coincidentally is the same accuracy Nath had for predicting that Watford get relegated.

I am worried that the Pozzos are having a fire sale but the happy clapper, optimist who waved his flag proudly at Wembley after losing 6 - 0 (we were 2nd after all) side of me thinks that Granada didn't do too badly from it.
And even if it does go pear shaped, at least we got a four sided ground from them.

This, you have to admit, is quite ironic coming from one of the main protagonists in having a section closed down on this forum. People no longer go there because of the droning you and others have done there for years! You hardly ever make a comment on the actual football threads these days but lo and behold, here you come having an argument as you arrive back...

Yes, and I'll join in with the laughs. :D

Many professionals in sport think that a sports persons performances are heavily reliant on mindset and attitude, but it is exceptionally difficult to judge a state of mind in people that you never actually hold a conversation with. But last season we saw Watford players, international players (the among the best in their country) in just about every position, with proven ability struggling to control a ball, to make a simple pass, time and time again, unable to manage the basics of football. And we saw players earning a fortune just not bothering. That is about their mindset and their attitude, it isn't about ability. And then, from the coaches, we see negative team selection, weird inconsistencies in selection and late (and often negative) substitutions when we need something to happen like create a chance, or score a goal.

If you listed our players that had a good season compared with previous seasons, I am sure it would be a very short list. The fact is almost all of them under-performed over the whole season.

Yet, we went down by one point on the last day, where one goal extra or less in two games would have kept us up.

If you wanted to "agree to differ", you didn't need to use 90% of your post making more points that needed responding to. If you dont want to discuss, then don't.

It was the accusations and complaints to the mods that got the section closed down. I wasn't guilty of either, that was mainly down to the group that you support in your involvement over there. And I've never left the football forum, I think it is the arguments that you seek out, and as usual, butt into.

If you think that me saying that the notion that the club management should be giving up on the goal of promotion, is "unbelievable", then no wonder you get upset so easily. It's a flipping discussion forum, for heavens sake.

Lighten up, and discuss the football.
