It would probably depend on who this person was, ITK. Being Watford it could be a source very close to the club or the bloke down the chippy.

Yeah true, I guess patience is the key here for all of us. Difficult when you get someone so called reliable as Leventhal pushing this story and then people saying they've heard different.

Leventhal for me personally has gone off the boil in recent years. Sure, he gets scoops no general fan would know but he's either late or jumps the gun. Andrew French on the other hand has proven how "on the ball" (pun intended) he is about the goings on of the club. Having channels within the club as a respected journalist for the WO obviously works in his favour. In other words, I would be more inclined to believe French over Leventhal.

Just remember, the name of the game at the end of the day is selling their product. Which is largely subscriptions these days.

Oh 100% Leventhal has clearly lost his closest sources to the club and French has taken the route of only publishing something once it's 100%. This story at Xmas came from Ornstein rather than Leventhal which made me and others think there was something to it

Yep stopped subscribing over a year ago once it was clear Leventhal no longer had any inside knowledge from the club

How do unsuccessful, in sporting terms, football businesses make (and grow) profits? If we have examples of mediocre teams, with average players building revenue , that in turn leads to greater shareholder value - How do they do that?

I have no idea if this is good or bad but .... looking at what is being said - I cant see this ownership investing in infrastructure - e.g stadium redevelopment / new stadium, training ground .... they will also want to minimise cash leaving the group which would suggest a large amount of player trading will remain within the group - which may be very limiting. I worry about the academies given players are so easily and cheaply picked off by the big teams leaving the group with the less able players. I'm only speculating here - but this feels like a very minimal investment model and we will rely heavily on data and gamble signings - if it works it will enable the club to invest more - but early doors its doesn't feel like a financial shot in the arm to propel us forwards .... having said that a similar data approach has worked well for Brentford

hahaha - yes I thought that as I typed it - Although they have invested in infrastructure and early doors player trading was good ... last 4-5 years it has for 80% of incomings been nothing short of grossly incompetent.

It’s unfair to single you out but it does beg the question - what do people think our current owners actually do/have done?

All the criticism of the potential new owners seems to be exactly what the current ones do. Is it one big troll? It’s wild.

Absolutely. Think there are a few broad categories of football club owners:

    1. Super rich, happy to lose money as they're either washing the image of their oppressive nation state, or it's a vanity project/plaything for them
    2. Owner fan, various levels of wealth but generally not looking to make money out of it
    3. Owners that view it as a business and try to make a profit (often starting out that way and then realising it's almost impossible) or at least take enough money out of the club to make it worth their while
    4. Absolute shysters/cowboys who don't have that money to support a club so either borrow against the club's assets or lie about how much they're worth, always involved in scrapes with various authorities, generally ends in tears
    5. Fan owned club, limited resources but act in the best interests

Of course, some may straddle multiple categories. I think most of us probably had Pozzo in category number 3 in the early years but over time growing suspicions he might now be in category 4...

Agree with that, though 4 is by far the broadest category in football outside of the PL I'd say. Probably captures 75% of owners to some degree.

I’m concerned all this talk of Yankee dollars may end up with the club on the skids.

Not really my cup of tea but I did appreciate the effort that was put into it. It was more catered to the 'Lads Mag' sort of specific. Wouldn't really see it bundled with 'Sailor Moon' or My Little Pony' back in the day. :p
