I would prefer we find out if he wants to come here first...I know tapping up etc...but there's no point offering 2 players and effectively telling them they're surplus to requirements for someone who doesn't want to comer here.

i would imagine so. can't see us spending much more than another 10m euro this window to be honest.

I don't think we'll truly know the cost of our transfers. Can see Gino trying a few deals with player exchanges. Who knows, there could be a fringe player Palermo may want from Udinese and a deal could be done that way.

 

To be fair when it comes to Battochio and Fabbrini it's only a hardy few on here who seem to think their future lies here. Even if we were still in the Championship they'd be fringe squad players at best. I'm sure they know the reality however.

I think even the Observer would turn their nose up at this one. It does seem strange that just as we were rumoured to be interested in Alvaro Vazquez, this rumour cropped up on here but nowhere else, particularly as there have been so many leaks and gossip about other enquiries in Italy. Quite why we'd even offer two players who were playing in the lower regions of the Championship and Serie B last season as makeweights in a deal for top class player is even more bizarre. What on earth would Palermo want with Fabbrini and Batocchio?

I think your mate might be having us all on, Optimistic Hornet. Maybe he looked for a YouTube video of the other Vazquez, stumbled across this one and thought he'd pull your leg a bit? Still, at least I became aware of a supremely stylish and talented player in Serie A - I haven't enjoyed a highlights video that much for quite some time!

Yes . Nugent isn't valueless and has done a job as a squad player for a premier league team. I'm not saying we can sell him for megabucks, just that neither might be completely valueless as makeweights in such a deal.

 

Yeah but as make weights in a deal like that they're as much use to Palermo as someone trading in a clapped out old Vauxhall is at an Audi dealership. It might grease the wheels of the deal but it's not going to add much to it either.

I queried it because (a) I don't really have time to trawl back through every post to see if it has since been picked up elsewhere on t'internet and (b) I'd noticed a lot of other people starting to mention this bloke in other transfer threads and had an inkling there was nothing more in it than your source's info but wanted to be sure.

I'm sorry but none of this thread makes sense. Earlier on, you told us that your friend used to work for a national paper, now he currently works for a national paper. I presume he's in the sports section otherwise why would he know about this? If so, why has he decided to sit on this exclusive rather than put it in print or pass it to a contact at another paper? There are pages of transfer nonsense appearing every day but your mate decides to keep this to himself (despite the fact it would smash our only recently established transfer record) and just drip feed it to you to post on WFC Forums? And what are the chances of us being linked with two players with the same surname at almost exactly the same time?

Why did you ask us to guess two players if you only knew one rather than stringing out the whole guessing game? Even after you eventually said you only knew one player, again you asked people to guess both players as though you knew them. In addition to this, your opinion was that Palermo would want £8 million for him before you knew what the deal was then lo and behold we offer a deal with two players that you consider to be worth 12 million euros which is more or less £8 million.

Then, all of a sudden your mate texts you and the whole thing's off - we've managed to make an enquiry, offering two of our own players as part of the deal and no-one anywhere else but here has got wind of it. I'm sorry but I don't buy it at all.

for what its worth it was a typo, i had been in work since 7.30am and just got home. he no longer works for a national paper, but he still has his contacts. I've not heard at all that the whole thing is off at all, just that palermo did not accept our proposal at that time. i have not made the whole thing up, you don't have to believe it but don't have a ****ing go.

I remember Ray Lew's first campaign in charge, and due to financial restrictions he was only allowed to sign one player!

Now can you imagine, had WFC Forums been invented back then, just how the summer would have played out in the Rumours area?!!

 

I really enjoyed the video even if the rumour was nonsense (I found myself smiling after about 20 seconds) and will keep an eye out for the player in the future
