Little quiz for you - England players over the past year. How many can you remember: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/45332379 Got 23/25 Didn't get Spoiler Overton/Crane
Cook in his last innings - hopefully get a good score to set us up nicely. What is the betting the ECB will be asking him to re-consider retirement in a year's time when we've tried more openers and they've failed!?
The longest standing ovation I can remember. The highest scoring Englishman, opener & left hander in test cricket. I hope I'm around to see these broken as I will live to a ripe old age.
A nice symmetry to his career - begins with a century against India and ends with one (plus a 50 in the other innings) Well played Sir. A quiz on who have partnered Cook at the top since his started back in 2006 - rather sums up the problems England have had in terms of openers post Strauss. Got 8 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/45471292.
Apparently the only person to start and finish his international career with a 100 and a 50 in the 2 innings ??
I thought we declared late, leaving a target of 464 in just under 4 sessions. However India are 2-3 in the 4th over!
Oh what a perfect day for Cookie. After the winter, he’ll miss the challenge of tests. Playing in April & September against Worcester just isn’t the same.
These 2 are giving India a chance but think once one goes the rest will follow - probably doesn't help that Broad is injured.
Heading for a famous run chase at present. There seems very little in the wicket for the bowlers. EDIT - literally the second i posted this, a wicket fell !
A bit of both. But you ought to see Rashid's ball that bowled Rahul, that ball must have turned about 60 degrees!
Shane Warne like! We seem to have resisted giving Curran or Andersen a go which has given India a chance.
Bizarre scorecard for India. 5 ducks, only 2 in double figures but 2 in treble figures, one of whom even outscored Cook's 147
What a fitting end to the series - Jimmy Anderson taking the last wicket to break the record number of wickets for a fast bowler!
Yep. He just needs to hang around to destroy the Aussies next summer (?) taking a fivefor on the last day, and then he too is allowed to retire !
Certainly should. I would be tempted to take Coad from Yorkshire as well to replace Broad. 40 wkts in 7 matches at 16 apiece this season. Took a Michelle today as well
I really hope they take a couple of decent young openers as I just don't think Jennings has what it takes. Personally I'd have taken 3 new openers, thrown them in and seen which swim. If Jennings makes runs on the slower spin pitches it just means we will have to sit through another summer of him making no runs under English conditions. I hope Anderson doesn't burn himself out over the winter and decide to call it a day before next summer. I guess he wants to chase as many wickets as he can but it will be hot and fairly fruitless for him out there you would have thought. It might have been better for him to sit it out and come back refreshed but i guess at his age he might sieze up if we don't keep him moving !!
Leach must play. A) to annoy Keighley. B) to have a bowler who can keep it tight & allow the seamers to rotate. Not bothered whether it’s Somerset Leach or Worcester Leach. So long as it’s a Leach.
