I'm surprised he was able to get one.

18 million, almost half, of Argentina's population is of recent Italian descent and his surname sounds like it is most probably of Italian origins, therefore it is not actually that surprising.

If you are suggesting he's got an Italian passport then he wouldn't need a work permit.

Surely lowerrous is suggesting that, as per the options you provided earlier, he must either need a WP or have a suitably European relative.

Right. We know he must have one or the other. I asked the question but no-one knows the answer. Have I got it now?

The team C team or whatever it is he plays for has Dario Sand in goal who is a very highly rated Argentinian keeper. I seem to remember a few top, top clubs being interested in him not so long ago and he turns out great in Football Manager :D

Is Aloi in Football Manager at all?!

Not on my current game but I don't have the Argentinian leagues loaded so it only has about half of the first team on there.

Having had a look i the editor, therefore every database, I can tell you that he is not in it. At least not under either the name Santiago, or Aloi.

I'm telling you, he is an amateur player in the River Plate system. He is not on the radar screen at all.

Here in the States, every soccer fan has a local team and then typically follows an English team plus usually one or two other teams from either Italy, Mexico, Argentina or Spain/Holland/Korea/Japan, etc. I have a number of friends who follow the Argentine league with loyalty to Boca or River. They let me know about the Amateur squads the professional teams have there. It's less formal and rigid in my estimation than the English club format, and more inclusive helping to develop the talent that is there in the country.

From what I gather, you have:
(-)River Plate first team that is what everyone means when they say 'River Plate'.
(-)Next you have the second team, with guys who go in and out of the first team.
(-)Behind them you have the reserves, semi-professional players looking to get a 'cup of coffee' with the first team some day.
(-)Then you have ranks of developmental Amateur squads, 'Juvenilio' and 'Infantilio' I think.

Our man Santiago Aloi is from the River Plate amateurs. This doesn't mean he's not good, but it means he's probably never played with the big boys.

The scout must have seen something good in him, and the kid must have some interest in playing in England, which is a good thing. But you won't see him contributing for a long time, methinks.

Thanks a lot for the insight there Fitz. Have to say though as a 20yo we'd probably be expecting him to contribute within the current season or it'll be the door for him. The good thing about these kinds of deals is the financial cost to WFC is minimal.

    Indeed.

Aidy loves these foreign triallists doesn't he?

20 is pretty old to be an amateur IMO. Gifton was playing for us at 16.

Needs to progress very quickly indeed.
