We have an excellent recent record at the City Ground.

We have won four and drawn two of our last seven games at Forest.

Should be good for at least a point on Saturday, and maybe all three?

yeah froggy - v brighton and v palsarse we were pretty crap at best - too many changes to the the team mean the continuity stops -i know the changes were forced but that is the issue - the team isn't now as it was - and has to gel again as players come in.

Really?...we are only 2/3 points behind Leeds with games in hand.

Teams might creep up but so be it...most of us expected to be worrying about how PNE/Scunny etc were getting on before the season started.

Forest haven't lost in over 30 homes games and that is the sort of record we like to break.

Thirty league games old boy, everyone conveniently forgets that Blackpool did the double over them in the play-offs!

There are some right doom-mongers on this forum. I fancy us for at least a point, and my glass is half full, so I am looking for all three!

This from a Forest fan pre-viewing Saturdays' game:

Not feeling overly confident about this one – Watford have proven troublesome opponents for us at the City Ground anyway, and that’s compounded by disappointing injury news. Guy Moussi – a key player for us in recent weeks – will be missing, although skipper Paul McKenna will be able to stake a claim for his place in the team again.

New boy Robbie Findley immediately injured himself in training, which isn’t the most auspicious of starts, and there are doubts around Nathan Tyson who missed the Coventry game with a back problem. Despite a clash of heads and a massive black eye it would seem Chris Cohen is likely to be available, as his his headbutter Paul Konchesky.

Watford have impressed with their open attacking play this year – I really admire Malky Mackay’s side, and it’s not surprising that on their travels they are the highest scoring side in the league. Unlike most of our recent opponents at the City Ground I expect them to come and attack us – which whilst comes with an obvious threat, does open the door for us to play football rather than battle as in recent weeks.

We’ve won four of our last five games of course – indeed, of the last 24 points on offer we’ve taken 22 of them – which is a cracking run. Overlaid onto that is our long unbeaten league run at home – all of which combine to make me feel a bit nervous about this one. Watford’s form a little more mixed – they’ve won, lost and drawn their last three league games.

The home debut of Paul Konchesky will enhance an otherwise familiar looking back line for the Reds, with McKenna and Cohen likely to be in midfield with two of Majewski, McGugan and Anderson to join them. Earnshaw and Tudgay seem the likely strike pairing – but with the likes of McGoldrick in the squad we do have some flexibility despite the missing men.

I’m hoping that we have the opportunity to play a bit of nice football on the deck against a more positively set-up opponent that we’ve been used to – in a game like that the likes of Majewski could be a really key figure. The concern I have is that a run of scrappy (but brilliant!) wins might have unacclimatised our squad from a more free-flowing encounter.

That said, a defeat at Cardiff and a disappointing home draw against Crystal Palace in Watford’s last couple of games does offer a ray of optimism. I’m not counting their 3-0 win against Derby at Vicarage Road because that’s just a default result against Nigel Clough’s men these days!

I think this will be a tricky one – I can certainly see goals in the game and fairly evenly matched sides. If our defence can hold firm – and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t – then we could come through for the win. Wouldn’t it be nice to see a number three lining up a left-footed freekick as well…? Now I am dreaming!

I actually fancy us getting something there. An away win at QPR sparked the last good run, so hopefully a win at Forest will do the same. First game since November for me aswell, so very much looking forward to it and looking for a positive result

Hi everyone - this is my first post! (I am a slow converter from the 606 boards. My apologies to all)

Did anyone go to the Forest away game a few years ago when there was a loon threatening to jump off a bridge on the M1 for the whole day and hundreds of Watford fans missed the game? I was one of them unfortunately. From memory (of listening on crackly BBC 3 Counties coverage) Neil Cox scored a pen and we won 1-0. Would be ecstatic with a win up there considering their home record.

With this Watford side it could be either a 4-0 win or a 4-0 loss! Looking forward to it nonetheless - always a good atmosphere up there. :badge:

Was he actually instituted as a loon or maybe he was just a desperate human being fed up with life's disappointments, maybe had a wife who ran of with a Somalian pirate who brainwashed her to help him free willy in the middle of the Med sea.

What makes a person a loon? just because he wants to jump of a bridge - what a shame it disrupted your day - never mind - this season maybe a 30 vehicle smash up will hold you up - after all drivers can be pretty loony.

Out of interest did he jump?

    welcome to the boreds J 'n K

First time; 2000 Under Graham Taylor Won 2 nil with 2 goals from Micah Hyde

Second time; 2004 (I think) Won 2 1 with 2 goals from Helguson.

I remember that but because my mate is from Nottingham, we got up there early to visit his family and thankfully missed all the drama.

Forest had 2 players sent off that day I think and the old A blockers were not happy bunnies. Helguson missed several very good chances and it should have been a spanking really.

    Forest Preview, Teams & Reaction

Sorry, I haven't got time to write a full preview this week but I have done an interview to put up.

    1) Since we last played against Forest, you've gone on a bit of a run and stuck yourselves right in the frame for automatics, let alone playoffs, what happened?

Numerous factors. Firstly we've had a nice run of easy games against teams all in poor form: Ipswich, Derby x2, Coventry, Pompey, Bristol. However, these are all games we would have lost points to last season. You wouldn't have seen us come from behind to beat Coventry, or score twice in the last five minutes to beat Portsmouth. With our permanently good home form we have a solid foundation to go on good runs, and what's let us down is our away form, but we have developed a strong, determined mentality that we didn't have last year or the beginning of this season. Other factors are the signing of Tudgay, who's been largely very good, but what's started to become clear is that bit-part players last season in the last few weeks have come into their own. Moussi, Lynch, McGugan, Chambers and Tyson were largely ineffective last year, and now have been the reason we're on such a good run.

    2) Konchesky on loan in the window was a bit of a coup, are you happy with the signing?

Extremely. What would have been perfect was a permanent left back signing, which has eluded us for nearly a decade, but Konchesky, despite all his criticism at Liverpool, is an established Premiership left back who is too good for the Championship. Very steady against Coventry and will only strengthen our promotion push. Playing Lynch, a reserve centre back, at left back wasn't ideal, and now the board have pulled off a wonderful loan signing.

    3) Who do you think will go up and finish in the playoffs this year?

QPR are simply too consistent and have got over their blip. It's really tough to call; I think second is between us, Norwich, Swansea and Cardiff. February is a very testing month for us in terms of games and the quality of the opposition. If we come out of that unscathed, I can see us going up automatically, otherwise my tip would be Swansea. For the play offs, it will be yourselves and at least three of Cardiff, Norwich, Swansea and ourselves. Simply too tight to tell. I think Watford can get into the playoffs, but automatic is a little too much for them; same with Leeds.

    4) If you could sign any one player from Watford now for your squad on Saturday, who would it be and why?

I will always say Graham. We get glimpses of strong forward play with Adebola coming off the bench, but we really do lack aerial presence. Tudgay is doing an admirable job for his size, but Earnshaw would simply thrive with a player like Graham. Earnshaw's link up play is actually rather good, and a partnership like that would be wonderful.

    5) If you went up, would you rather do a Stoke, playing negative football to grind out results and try and stay up, or go for it like Blackpool without fear of the consequences?

As fans we're generally averse to negative football, especially at the City Ground. It's been embedded since the days of Clough, and our only experiences of it have been under horrible spells with Megson and Kinnear. I'd be happy for us to go down but do ourselves proud. Playing negatively only gets you so far in the Premiership, and even staying up, the best we could ever hope for afterwards would be mid table every season. Billy doesn't encourage negative football (he does encourage timewasting, a lot though) and I couldn't see ourselves resorting to what Stoke do, as the home fans would not be happy.

    6) McGugan scored one of many wondergoals against us back at Vicarage Road, how do you rate his importance to the side now?

His run had to come to an end, and he's not been quite the same since he was when he scored against you. Scored a lucky long shot on Tuesday, but he isn't having the same impact as he was having. Not due to a lack of effort, but things aren't falling to him as much as they were. He's still indispensible to us, and can't be dropped really, which is a shame, because we could do with utilising Majewski a lot more.

    7) We're on a bit of a bad run, whilst you're in good form, but we always seem to pull it out of the bag at your place, what's your prediction?

It depends how you set up. We are by no means secure at home, despite our record. We don't dismantle teams like we did last year, but that's mainly because people line up so negatively against us. If you go with a negative mindset, I doubt you'll get much at all, and we usually grind those kinds of teams down eventually. I can see you at least mustering counter-attacking football against us, and you are our bogey team, so I'm by no means confident. I predict a nervy 1-0 win for us, with Earnshaw bagging a second half winner.

    8) Some Watford fans are starting to accept that a promotion chase for us could be on the cards, whilst some are still happy to just head for mathematical safety, how do you rate our season so far?

It's refreshing to see a team, unlike ourselves, not spending a great deal, living within their means, and playing good football, and you deserve to be in the mix, as you are right now. You have always been our bogey team, showing us how to be incisive and work as a unit, and it was only time until you improved that to a consistent level. I can't say, however, I'm surprised that you are faltering a little, as there's only so much a small squad can cope with, like we found out last year. You've got a tidy squad and hopefully you'll stick up there with us (hopefully!) as well.

    9) What one Forest player would you tip for a big future, whether it be in the red shirt or not?

Chris Gunter. Sometimes you don't notice him when he defends, which may sound a little worrying, but he does his job with such ease and effectiveness. He is very handy upfront, and watch out for his overlapping runs on Saturday, as he's excellent at applying width and pressure to the opposition. He's calmed down now after he stamped on a Leeds player and looks totally composed. Spurs bought him because he has the potential to be a top Premiership full back, and it won't be long until that potential is realised, be it at us or elsewhere.

    10) Billy Davies, love or loathe him is doing a job so far this season, do you think he'll fall short right at the end as his previous dictates?

It wasn't his fault that we fell short last season. Tactically you can't fault him, and the players were simply exhausted by about January. What we didn't do last season was get the results we deserved last season on the road, simply because we didn't have the steel and doggedness to pull them off. We have that now this season, and the Coventry result is an indicator of that. I've never been this confident in the final half of the season, and I can see us doing it one better. If he successfully rotates players this month, reminds the players of not getting ahead of ourselves with the form we're in, he can become one of the best managers we've had in decades (suggestive of the terrible managers we've had for so long!).

Either side of these results were wins in 2003 with a Neil Cox goal in a 1-0 win (not a penalty).

And 4-2 last season, of course, with goals from Graham, Smith, Williamson, and Cleverley.

Also good draws at the City ground in 2002 and 2005, so all in all, a pretty good hunting ground for us.

Man I remember sitting in the car for hours and never making it to the City Ground years ago. We walked sown the carriageway about half a mile and found a golf club and had a drink and stuff. Was a real shame to miss the game, especially as we won.

First time I've been to the City Ground tomorrow, which is odd. One of the few I've not been to yet. Really looking forwrd to it.
