Burd and I went to watch the Yeovil game, and thought it was really good value. I'll definitely go again, and hopefully more people will get behind the girls next season. Berko is a great little ground to go to, and there's some good boozers along the canal. It's a decent afternoon out, and I'd say to anyone who's thought of going to just give it a go. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

Apologies for lack of updates. Life has been hectic.

Since the last update we've played the Leagues best 2 teams, both academy teams. Tottenham beat us 3-0 at our place, but I think our girls looked at them in awe despite our best efforts and we created some great chances against them. Against the Watford academy girls we went 2-0 up before their strength in depth showed and we ended up losing 5-2. When you consider their teams are hand picked from the very best, and we play every girls who wants to join then they did themselves proud in both games.

Last week we had a quarter final in the League Cup against Bishops Stortford, (who we knocked out of the county cup a few weeks earlier), and beat them 4-2 to progress to the semi's.

Next week we're away to Garston Mets, an excellent team who are going to be a very good test.

Actually we were at Home to Garston yesterday. A very good team who've lost once in 3 seasons. It was going to be a big test for our girls.

An excellent end to end match saw Garston 1-0 up at half time. Second half our girls rallied and scored 2 to be leading with 5 minutes to go. As we all know the best teams get better under pressure as Garston proved and scored to end the game 2-2. Not a bad result considering it's our first season against top flight teams.

Sounds like a lack of match fitness to me. You're not Zola are you? Sack the manager.

1000 apologies for not updating this for a while.

Since my last post the, (WFCForums sponsored), girls have been doing great. They're quickly adapting to life in the first division but I have to say some of the academy teams are just outstanding. Our aim is to finish as high as possible out of the non academy teams and go for the cups. Well yesterday we made a step closer to the County Cup.

We didn't think the minus temperature conditions and driving snow would enable us to play the match yesterday, but Knebworth insisted it was on, and so we all made the trip up there for the midday kick off. On arrival I noticed a few lu*on scarves and hats on show. Don't know if that was because Knebworth play in Orange or because Watford were in town. They were a pleasant enough bunch despite that!
As always, semi finals are close affairs and with 5 minutes to go it was 1-1, both teams having good chances throughout. Luckily for us we forced a one on one and our attacking midfielder finished in style to put us into the final on 26th April.

We have another semi final in February in the League Cup, so we're hoping to play as well as we did yesterday and make it to both our cup finals this season.

Otherwise recent highlights were a 2-5 win at Hitchin, where our keeper made a great penalty save with the scores at 2-2, then a 4-5 defeat last week to Hoddesdon, but despite the result it was a great game with the lead changing hands throughout right up to the last minute.

Last weekend saw us head into deepest Bedfordshire for a friendly against Kempston Ladies. Their U13 girls have already won the Beds, Herts and Bucks league title, as they did last year, and are unbeaten. Despite missing 2 of our strongest players we gave them a cracking match which we came out of 1-0 winners. As the season wears on and we keep playing the strongest teams our girls seem to be thriving on it. Onwards and upwards.

This weekend see's a huge test as we play our own academy team, who have huge strength in depth. The nice thing about it is we're not expected to win, but this also means the girls can play without fear and you just never know ;). Kick Off at Sun Postal at 11am on Saturday if it doesn't snow!

Watford Ladies to play a home match at Vicarage Road

Great news, on 28th March Watford Ladies are playing a home league match against Aston Villa Ladies at the Vic. It's international weekend so an excellent chance to see the Ladies first team in action.

Tickets are £4 for adults and £2 everyone else. I think it's going to be SEJ stand only but I suppose that depends on numbers. Hopefully the 1881 will put in an appearance.

All the info is here: http://watford.fawsl.com/news/first_home_game_at_vicarage_road.html

We certainly will be there, already a number of us have bought season tickets. Hoping to bring one of the banners out, is it only the SEJ stand open?

If I can get out of my Dad's birthday celebrations I might rock up to this one. What's the parking like at Sun Postal Burnsie?

    Parking is fine usually.

I may pop along on Saturday.

    Burnsie WFCforums Ladies Team Guv'nor

As Alex says, parking is fine. I think we're the only home game at Sun Postal on Saturday so it will be almost empty compared to most Saturdays. It's a tough game for us, we're a community team, (we accept anyone who wants to play and train once a week), up against our elite Watford team, (who can pick and choose their players and train twice a week), so the odds are stacked against us. That's the way it goes though, and sometimes strange things can happen in a football game. As always though, thoroughly looking forward to it.

11am KO. Coffees and snacks available from the clubhouse.

Just as we thought the weekend couldn't get any better.....

Our WFCForums sponsored Watford Ladies U13 Harts team just won the Herts County Cup. It was 2-2 after extra time and the girls held their nerve to beat Garston Ladies 7-6 on penalties.

I thought yesterday was heart stopping, but being 2 down with 6 minutes to play and lifting the cup was something very special.

    Definitely a Watford weekend.

So that's almost it. The sponsorship deal runs out at the end of this season and we play our final tournament at Maidenhead this Sunday.

Since Alex kindly sponsored our Watford Ladies team we've gone from a bunch of girls from various teams meeting up in Cassiobury Park for the first training session to being 2nd division champions in our first season, to double Cup finals this season and becoming County Champions. Next season we move to 11 a side in the U14's and are now an established 1st division team who are looking at going for the title next season.

Another bonus of being sponsored by the forum is that our smaller shirts are already being passed down to younger teams so I've already seen the forum advertising on shirts at other tournaments some of our teams have being involved in.

Thanks Alex for the sponsorship for the last 2 seasons, thanks also for the sticky for the same time, all very much appreciated.

Unable to negotiate a new deal with your miserly sponsors eh? You've definitely hit the big time now.

So the last matches of the WFCForums sponsorship run was at the Maidenhead tournament on Sunday afternoon. The girls got through the group matches, quarters, semi final and final without conceding a single goal and took the title in style. A great way to finish.

    Hasta la vista.

Maidenhead tournament! My neck of the woods. Well done on a great finish, and no chance we can extend the sponsorship then?

That was it Stuboy, but there were literally hundreds of teams over the weekend playing there so would have been surprised to get a pic. Here's a link to the Herts County Cup win with pictures of the girls in their, (now ill fitting), WFCForums kit.

At what point does the manager of the ladies team get sacked? They've played 13, lost 13 since May.

  25. Prentice

    The Senior ladies team?

They've been dreadful, lost a lot of players and are stuck with a lot of rubbish - they can't compete with teams in their league and don't get an awful lot of backing from the club.

They probably need to drop out of the WSL2 so that they're not getting battered every week.

  26. Alban Hornet

    Alban Hornet Squad Player

Loss of a few key players over the past year, paired with a real lack of backing from the club - they were always going to struggle. Ridiculous injury list too.

  27. Burnsie

    Burnsie WFCforums Ladies Team Guv'nor

John Salomon runs the ladies section from top to bottom and is more than just the first team manager. As others have said above, the club don't give them anything, (which is another story), and they've lost some quality players. Losing 4-0 to the team 2nd bottom is a shocker and it seems like the wheels are really coming off, but removing John isn't the answer.

  28. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Fair enough. Seems like they're in the wrong league then. Does WSL2 have relegation/promotion with a league below or would they have to literally withdraw?

  29. Prentice

    Prentice Administrator

They'd have to withdraw, you can't be relegated from WSL2

Junior CYHSYF has recently started playing for the Under-9s Harts, they train with the Under-11s and I’ve been impressed with the dedication of Pete, Paul and Harley who coach the 2 groups. We’ve played two 5-a-side matches so far, both games we’ve struggled a bit as we only had the minimum 5 players while the oppo have had 8 players to rotate meaning our girls are always tired towards the end having played the whole game.
If you know any 8 year olds or even 7 year olds who you think might like to play please bring them along to see if they like it – we train from 6.30 to 7.30 at Fullerians on a Wednesday evening and play matches on a Saturday morning at 10.00 (home games at Sun Sports). We could really do with a couple of more players:
