Does anyone know why the Charlton team actualy folded?? They got the the FA Cup final!

  6. Y&P

Because Charlton were rubbish and were going to lose a lot of money they needed to cut costs. So, instead of punishing their crap men's team who had got them in the poo, they folded the women's team who are always up there. The FA were not happy

Arsenal are about the only club that really care about their Ladies team..

Sadly for the Women a lot of clubs just shut them down as an excuse for cost cutting.

Good to see ours doing well and enjoying it.

Probably never really take off in this country though like it has in the US.

Had another great win the other day, beating the famous "Doncaster Belles" 4-3

They are currently 2nd in the "Ladies" National Premier League, quite an achievement seeing as they were only promoted this season. Well done so far girls. :sign12:

The next game is a toughy though, they have to play the Arsenal Ladies, who have dominated the Ladies game for some years now, still anyone can be beaten, so good luck girls, I think you will need it

they are doing great at the moment, think they could end up in the top 4 or 5 by end of season which would be a fantastic result, good luck against the arse ladies

Pretty pointless form of football. We're only doing half decent because we bought half the Charlton team that folded last summer...

UEA is a doom monger!! Who cares?? It's positive energy and exposure for the club.

Be interesting to know how much it costs us to subsidise them, they seem pointless to me too.

Sorry but this post is pointless.

No one is really interested in Watford Ladies FC. We dont follow them, we dont support them, has nothing really to do with the team we pay to watch and is only happening because its politically correct.

  22. I thought this was a post about semi dressed females STAGGERING around the Cafe Quarter of a Friday night after 17 sambucas and 10 Blue Wickeds.

I don't hold with that sort of thing.

But this is women's football, where the number of top level players is very much finite. Getting a ridiculous number of players from Charlton is a decent step towards automatic improvement. It'd be like Arsenal folding tomorrow in the men's game and us picking up 16 of their players. You can't seriously tell me we'd not be successful...

Very little. A few kits and use of WFC's facilities.

    Rich,

You would be surprised how much the club is paying. I was down at the club the other day on a different subject and I was told, and it is a very significant amount. It is paid directly by the club.

  25. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Really? That's certainly not what the initial press stuff said. Why bother? Two clubs of similar size (Fulham and Charlton) have both abandoned their ladies teams becasue frankly it's a pointless investment. Unless every single top 40 club is forced to create one it always will be.

Can't say I disagree with you but I guess it is all to do with sport in the community.

For anyone interested they are plaing at Berko Town on Sunday in the league cup against Birmingham. 2pm k o.

What you need to remember is that women's football may attract female fans to Watford. Mothers, wives and girlfriends - all of whome are the main reason male Watford fans may not get to the Vic as often as they like.

Joining forces with the women's side could be a significant part of building a greater fan base. Especially while the women's side are doing so exceptionally well.

  28. Berkohorn

At the moment women's football attracts their families, school kids that get in for free and a bunch of carpet munch3rs.

I don't see that this will increase numbers at real games. That said I have no problem with us being an inclusive club and if the board have deemed it a worthwhile investment so be it.

I just find it interesting that the WFC Sports and Community Trust has to be self funding whilst the Ladies football is far from that. Maybe there are some perks that the directors are receiving in return;)

  29. UEA_Hornet

    UEA_Hornet First Team Captain

Yeah but the women's side aren't advertised anywhere and they play at Boreham Wood (so nowhere near WFC). I don't really see how that is likely to attract female fans...

Well done ladies, but I'm glad I'm not Helen Landers Boyfried  Judging by the comment below which I have C+P from the Official sites match report

Helen Lander deserved the plaudits for her goals - her volleying from bouncing and dropping balls is almost always text-book and she has few if any peers in this skill.-set :]]:]]:]]
