This bloke is excited: Firstly apologies all for being premature - due to work sending me to sunny Bournemouth for the rest of this week I’m afraid I have to submit this ‘ull preview before our huge east coast yellows derby vs Nawirch. Also accounts for lack of knowledge, detail, anything football related or anything good. Previewing before another match is tricky to do but depending on how things might go vs the Canaries, take your pick from: looking forward to building on that great mid-week win, another Rajovic hat-trick would be nice. COYH! solid away point would be good, get another clean sheet. f**k you Pozzo, Duxbury, can’t even beat f****** Norwich, another f****** bank loan debt free my f****** a***, I’m off for a f****** Chinese tonight etc etc ‘ull are in decent form with good wins over London Broncos and Warrington Wolves, it might get chippy so we need to ensure we keep thirteen players on the field. Some players who have played in the yellow of Watford and the off-yellow / white / orange of Hull: (Last one is a lie but he’s ex-Scunthorpe which is ‘tother side of Humber Bridge). And some others not worth mentioning (Josh King). Us vs 'ull We have a pleasingly sh1t record vs ‘ull across the last 12 meetings: W2, D3, L7, last winning in Hull in 2013 (0-1, Deeney) and losing 1-0 last April as the season wound down to nowt. Me vs 'ull Non-Interesting fact: I went to Uni in ‘ull with famous Watford fan Pete Fincham, he would regularly try and pull me off to various matches but I was too busy socialising my way up the Cottingham Road. Weather in 'ull Weather: a beast from the east could pile in off the Humber, wind chill taking the temperature to a chilly -27. Gloves a priority. Score: 1-1 or 1-2, or maybe 0-1. Could be 1-0. I’ll go 0-0.
I recently created a sample set-piece report to show round to clubs as an example of my work and randomly picked Hull as the opponent team to focus on. So if you're interested in what one of my reports typically looks like and what to expect from Hulls set-pieces, feel free to take a look: https://docs.google.com/presentatio...ouid=117382432248027658351&rtpof=true&sd=true
Was this an utter turgid game last season? I know Tufat scored the winner (penalty?) but it was an awful game with us doing nothing of note if I remember. Depends on how we do against Norwich for squad morale going into it, but as @BeersThen stated in the first post, our record against Hull is pretty trash. I think we will struggle against them as always, and it could be another game where one moment of quality wins it (Sema at Swansea).
They need to start being less cautious in away games, especially when they're not playing the top teams. We don't want to see another performance like the one at Huddersfield.
Probably a mistake to really attack the best sides in this division away from home. Sure, Raj should of scored that early chance but then again Leicester didn't really come at us as much until dirty diving Vardy came on. Until then we looked like holding out for a possible unlikely point. But then there lies the issue, if we do sit back on a 1-0 lead or a point away, we know our defenders (Porteous) is going to set up a striker for a shot at goal. I would rather us pack the defence and wait for a mistake in the middle to launch a counter, which is exactly how Blackburn beat us that day. They stuck eleven behind the ball and stifled any chance we had.
They typically play a similar style of football to us (minus the high pressing) - and we've typically struggled against teams who play a similar style (Leeds, Leicester, Sunderland etc) which doesn't bode well - although the fact they don't press much could allow us a foothold in the game. Player to watch is Philogene-Bidace who they bought for £5m from Villa in the summer and is having a superb season. Usually starting on the left he like to cut inside and take shots with his right (ala Martins) and is likely to pose a threat against Andrews
Philogene has six goals and five assists in his last ten games. He will cause us a few problems I fear.
I will be wearing mine. But I will be standing in the cold waiting for something exciting to happen, not running around playing football. But if it is like last week, there will not be much of each.
Hull Watford (particularly away) is something of a cult fixture for me. First home game was against Hull. Spent 5 years in Hull and my best mate is a Hull fan. The day they were relegated in 2010 he'd dragged a few of us to watch them at the (then) KC. Meanwhile we secured our survival in the championship on the final day against Cov. Since then we've been to lots of Watford Hull games and they are usually dreadful affairs, as in, absolutely dreadful (aside from the second place chase in Zola's first season. Last year after the high of a surprisingly good world cup we saw a ***** 0-0 with Manaj missing from 2 yards. Unfortunately (thankfully) I'm away this weekend and he's moved abroad. Can't help but feel sad even though I know it'll be dreadful.
My local game for the season, Hull is only 20 miles away however I'm on my works Xmas Party today so I can't make it. Quietly confident we'll get a result today, I'd go unchanged from Tuesday. Would even stick with Hamer in goal.
Our works Christmas do is on the 15th, at Cubana Tapas Bar. Fine by me; I can't stand turkey... Hull 1 3 Watford
Yeah some companies do it early especially if they are based in the city where venues will be booked up with events until after Xmas. Before they out-sourced my team, we used to do a "Secret Santa" in the office. Generally a quick whip around for anyone leaving in the new year with stuffing and cold cranberry sarnies. As sad as that sounds, it's about as good as we got having to deal with so much 'Crunch Time' towards Xmas.
