    Thank you, found it

The quote is: "the manager doesn't really set the training, the manager doesn't set who we play, or how we play, it's all done from above"

Not sure how to interpret that really. We've seen distinctive styles of play from different managers, we've seen footage of managers leading training session that look different from previous sessions. We've seen players preferred by different managers and come in/out of the side.

The quote seems to suggest we have some set idea of what we want from the team, in terms of playing style and personnel. Which just doesn't tally with the shambolic one-end-of-the-spectrum-to-the-other recruitment we've seen with our Head Coaches.

One thing I do believe is managers are told when certain players aren't allowed to play, for whatever reason. There's been too many cases of players inexplicably left out of squads for months on ends with mystery injuries/unexplained reasons.

Well if that’s true, there’s really no point in appointing and then firing copious managers/coaches, or assistants to that role.

I'm not having this thing that Gino or somebody above the manager is picking the team, tactics, training exercises! That's just rubbish. Are they buying the players then yes I suspect so

    wfcwarehouse First Team Captain

Yes, I agree with this and it is likely this is what Troy what referring to - we saw the omission of Dennis, Sarr and someone else (I think?) towards the end of the Hodgson season unless my mind is failing me, and a couple of other instances of players seemingly being frozen out for no good reason.

Despite my views on Gino being well publicised I highly doubt he picks the team.

Maybe this is closer to the truth. Some appearances money related reasons or something else above the “Head Coach”.

Who knows but it’s hard to interpret Troy’s quotes in many ways which aren’t concerning and it also tallies up with having a range of different managers with different ideas yet the same problems and the same results.

Watched some of the bits that people had mentioned and amazed anyone takes anything that comes out of his mouth seriously. He comes across as a serial embellisher.

The first time I noticed this was his subtle change in interviews about when he went to prison. At first he seemed genuinely contrite, albeit still making an excuse about it being close to his father passing away. Over time as he told and re-told the story and his media profile grew, he changed it to he had to defend his brother and someone grabbed his leg and he thought they had a knife so he had to stamp on their head to protect himself and his livelihood as a footballer. Contrast that with the judge's comments that said it was a gratuitous attack on outnumbered and much smaller students.

There is no authenticity in his delivery in any of these stories, you can tell that that they've been honed over many re-tellings no doubt to his hanger on mates. There's probably a kernel of truth in there somewhere but you'd probably have to dig quite deep to find it.

I listened to Troy and his friends while I did my ironing.

He explained that he left shool at age 12 and had never heard of Walsall when he got signed by them. Not just the football club, but the place. Even though it was not far from where he lived. So it's clear that he did not get the education he needed to broaden his mind and outlook when he was young.

Despite that, he does seem to have a desire to do 'good'. His heart is in the right place, but oh dear some of the foolish things he says!

"Soft foreign players are OK in the summer sunshine, but they don't like the cold and rain in the winter"

Just because it's said in the "fam-a-lam" style of speaking they use in the whole interview, does not make it any less stupid and offensive. When he adds that he and 3 white players - "Clevs, Fozzy and Cathcarty" - were the only ones big and tough enough to handle it, it gets even closer to what got Ron Atkinson sacked.

He goes on to explain to his little congregation of gooner bluds, fams and dawgs, yeah? how much he likes hip-hop music. There's a surprise. The gang all agree enthusiastically and discuss various popular hip-hop beat combos of whom I've never heard.

Despite the frequently and pasionately expressed Jamaican-ness of the gathering, Troy reveals he decided to take his holidays around 150 miles north of that island. In Miami. Of course, where else. He namecalls a lengthy list of the rich and famous from the world of hip-hop and football who he met amongst the gangsters, exiled Caribbean dictators, drug runners and people traffickers whilst in that fair City.

"Coooo!" say the gang unanimously. "Gosh!" and "Blimey!". Only all in fam-a-lam language of course.

Troy then has a John Lennon moment and goes on to explain how he is "bigger than Watford". One of the gang exclaims "he IS Watford!". Everyone nods and agrees enthusiastically.

I suppose a certain arrogance is inevitable given the circumstances. Troy boasts several times about how the club would give him everything and anything he wanted. Executive box for the family! Champagne! Krispy Kremes! Expensive motor car! Anything.

Well of course he is neither bigger than the club nor the definition of the club. He's unlikely to have a stand named after him for example, like others whose contribution and brilliance easily eclipses his 3 or 4 decent seasons as one of hundreds of players who come and go. Nor even will he last in the affections of many in the way of many players from the past like Luther, Lloyd etc just as examples.

Troy also explains how he didn't get on with Sean Dyche. He says that Dyche didn't like Troy and didn't think he worked hard enough. Never did.

For me Troy stayed at Watford too long. Maybe 3 or 4 seasons too long. I wonder what would have happened had Dyche been kept on when the Pozzos took over and Deeney sold on. What would have happened if the deal to Leicester had gone through after they won the league?

Perhaps it would have been better for all concerned. We shall never know.

Anyway, the oh-so Jamaican lads are transported back to the streets of old Kingston Town when Troy produces a bottle from his bag and starts filling up paper cups for the would-be yardies. "Rum time!" they shout deliriously. Hee-hee how naughty. And all while broadcasting during the day too. "Lovely rum" they say as they hold their cups out "waaa-gwa-on! Rum!"

There's then a little embarrassed debate about whether they should add coke to it or not. "Well Rum and coke is a drink, right? Fam? You can have coke right?" However the dawgs are not enthusiastic about how adding coke will go over amongst their watching peers. "Naw coke is childish" says one of them a couple of times.

Well adding coke to a good Rum is not so much childish. I mean you wouldn't give Rum to a child to start with. It's more a sort of sacrilege. An act of destruction. It's what tourists do because they don't understand what they are drinking. It's like taking a fine malt whisky and mixing it with half a glass of Dr Pepper. A little bit, well, stupid to be honest.

But in fact the homies might as well add all the coke they want. The bottle label reveals it to be hennesey brandy they're drinking. They have no idea about Rum. Yeah go on. Tip some coke in. You can tell everyone how you had a propa Jamaican Rum and coke with yer man Troy. Jesus man. Gooners.

Troy says he didn't like Ivic and is very disrespectful about him. He wanted to come on as a sub and ivic didnt let him or something. He was glad that ivic got sacked and it was nothing to do with him complaining about him. The club made that clear in a statement troy wrote for them. Anything he wants you see.

    And that's about it.

I liked the bit where he mocks people for crying after relegation, then suddenly remembers that ‘men’s mental health’ is a big focus area in sport right now and quickly backtracks saying it’s ok to cry actually

Big bad Troy still has to protect his place on the media circuit

"Nivea Men’s ambassador Deeney is also embracing his partnership with the brand to battle any potential wrinkles born from managerial stress.

He said: “It’s easy to doubt your appearance in the modern world. Everything on Instagram is photoshopped – it’s fake. Confidence comes from within yourself. A 15-minute skincare routine is now part of my morning schedule. When I saw that 65 per cent of men under 35 are now doing more to slow down ageing, I thought I’d better take note!”"

Hahaha, yet more proof this guy will say anything for publicity and money. No shame.
