Around 400,000 years ago, man harnessed and controlled fire. This unique ability amongst all living creatures, empowered man to create more advanced tools, to cook food, reducing the risk of illness, to fight off predators. Collectively, these benefits allowed man to dedicate more time and energy to thought and questioning. That process has powered humans' progress from savana dwelling hunter gatherers, to the dominant species on earth and a huge technological advance.

But through the past 400,000 years, since one man, sated with a belly full of tender, roasted mastodon, gazed up at the stars and begun to wonder what was truly possible, the eternal question has raged.

Can you cool a roast dinner in an air fryer.

Today, ladies and gentlemen, we have our answer. And it's. Yes!

    Yes we can!

I did it tonight. Delicious stuffed chicken, roasted potatoes, parsnips and carrots.

I did steam broccoli and peas on the induction hob, but the bulk of the work was air fried. I also could have banged some pigs in blankets in with the chicken for the last 15 min if I'd wanted to.

We are living in a Golden age.

Indeed! It did the opposite of cooling it. It was piping hot and juicy.

One enormous floret of broccoli and a tiny one? Mmmm one might not be raw or boiled to ****.

Is that wet, grey slush under the peas at 2 o’clock on the plate meant to be stuffing?

And where’s the beak? I take the beak on the side. No beak whatsoever. Total starter roast.

I use a steak knife because it cuts through the bones, for quartering of the chicken and to separate the breast.

Your potato knowledge is bad. These are peeled and chopped red potatoes.

I actually use a steak knife for everything if I'm honest.

@wfcmoog what’s the trick with roasties in the air fryer? I found them to be disappointing when I had a go: just a bit bland.

Sorry, this all sounds very clever, but what’s wrong with an ordinary oven ? Is this not just a flash in the air-frying pan ?

    Yes. Wet with gravy.
No trick. I just rub them with a little olive oil and rock salt and they come out crisp on the outside and fluffy inside.

Typical platewetting response. You should be careful what you wish for, in 1299 we didn’t even have gravy.

Borgoise. It’s Swedish for gravy. Costs a fortune at Waitrose.

Ok, we succumbed this afternoon and got a ninja dual zone from John Lewis . We’ve been thinking about it for a while and as much as I’d like to say it was this thread that tipped the scales to purchase it was the dehydration function that swung it.

My wife who loves our pooches significantly more than me has been struggling to get dehydrated treats for our dogs and it turns out you can dehydrate things in them. She is currently cooking chicken breasts in it for the dogs now.

Joking apart we are looking forward to playing with it
