Scored by someone who wasn't even a US citizen though if I remember? Wasn't the bloke Haitian or something? Can't complain, our world cup winning cricketers are a bunch of Afrikaans and Irish!
I only know 2 people going, compared to nearly 20 I knew who went to Germany. It is way too expensive for most people to go. One guy going is a writer with loads of idle time and need for experiences to write about, and the other who is going with him is a rich stock broker patron who gets into trouble and is worth following as a writer for his experiences alone. Sort of a Casady to the other guy's Kerouac. I'm discretely saving up my money now for Brazil!
i'm toying with the idea of going to vegas for a portion of this. i get the feeling they'll treat me right
So you're saying that the US has poor record at WC finals so England should win, then you point out the US have beaten England at a WC final. Do you know what point you're trying to make?
how ya doin fritz ol mate - when you gonna see da lloyd score again? whats the real news on the oil spill? this must really be ucking things up enviromently and economically - who owns BP these days?
Me too, nas. Free beer at a company event in Vegas means a rough morning. Heya Paddy, aside from the fuzzy head this fine morning, doing great. I am quite far from the Gulf of Mexico so all I know is from the news but it sure doesn't look good. It seems like the Russo's are behind BP these days. Will anyone ever see Lloydinho score again? Seriously tho, I would like to get back to England again next year. The Mrs and I had a great time in London and it looks good for a return trip. A nice roast dinner and a few pints of real ale sounds great...I would like to do a home & away game next time again. That was spectacular, wicked hangover in Newcastle aside. Man that was tough.
[yt]5TwrYiygySc[/yt] If you're like me, you watched this and wanted 90 seconds of your life back. I like Herc though. He had a great season with Puebla, is having a strong camp now I'm told and is headed to Pachuca in the Mexican league next year. It's interesting to see how casual the US team is traveling down to the stadium for tomorrow's friendly against the Czech's. It's also interesting to see how much of a tool Dempsey is. I think he's going to have a good World Cup. PS The friendly is tomorrow at 5pm Pacific/8pm Eastern time played in Hartford Connecticut.
Lineup v. CZE: Guzan; Cherundolo ©, Goodson, Onyewu, Bornstein; Holden, Edu, Torres, Beasley; Buddle, Johnson EDIT: Notably, Demerit not even dressed, along with Dempsey, Donovan, Howard, Feilhaber and Bradley. 1-0 to the USA in the 17', Maurice Edu off a set piece play. 1-1, 45' Czech equalizer, again off a set piece, by a Czech who outjumped Onyewu 10 yards off the goal mouth. Gooch's not ready yet. 1-2 to the Czechs. Sub Heath Pearce gets caught watching his man walk the ball in... 2-2 Herc Gomez scores a nice equalizer! 2-3 Czechs take advantage of Pearce's confusion and a mis-clearance by Goodsen to score again. Seconds left to play: 2-4 Czechs on a ball over the top with a missed header by Ranger's Mo Edu. Bornstein and Pearce did not look good but those are the only people in camp to play left back...not sure what the outcome will be but no options look good. Torres, Holden, Gomez, Buddle, Beasley (surprisingly) looked great though. Gooch did not look good either. Bob should call up Omar Gonzalez from the Galaxy. Defense looks to be the soft white underbelly of Team USA this year. Nick Green's report:
They sold the most number of tickets but not people living in the States. Many of them were sold to ex pats already in SA. Oh, and touts/tourist companies.
I think about 1% of the number of Americans I know that went to Germany will be going to South Africa. There will not be a large crowd of Americans there.
Usa final 23 Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa, England), Marcus Hahnemann (Wolverhampton, England), Tim Howard (Everton, England). Defenders: Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes, France), Jonathan Bornstein (Chivas USA), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover, Germany), Jay DeMerit (Watford, England), Clarence Goodson (IK Start, Norway), Oguchi Onyewu (AC Milan, Italy), Jonathan Spector (West Ham, England). Midfielders: DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland), Michael Bradley (Borussia Moenchengladbach, Germany), Ricardo Clark (Eintracht Frankfurt, Germany), Clint Dempsey (Fulham, England), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles), Maurice Edu (Glasgow Rangers, Scotland), Benny Feilhaber (AGF Aarhus, Denmark), Stuart Holden (Bolton, England), Jose Torres (Pachuca, Mexico). Forwards: Jozy Altidore (Hull, England), Edson Buddle (Los Angeles), Robbie Findley (Salt Lake), Herculez Gomez (Puebla, Mexico).
I think we are going to hurt with out Ching.. that means Jozy will have to hold up the ball and count on Robbie Findley???? to score.. we could be f***ed
I cannot believe Bradley had the good sense not to take Kljestan but did bring the even worse Bornstein... Except for Jonny B, I don't think this is too bad. Still...watching Bradley's tactics over the last few months, I will predict a 4-0 loss to England. 3 to 7 games now I've seen teams perform this sequence of events on our back line: 1) Attacking player takes it to a wide position just off the penalty area 5-15 yards (more our left than our right side). 2) Attacker will stop and cut in some manner across the back line. 3) Defensive midfielders will pass on putting a body in front of the man and instead opt to walk. 4) Defenders will sag as they have be outnumbered in some fashion or are worried about people in the penalty area. 5) Attacker on ball will dribble to just inside the penalty area at which point he will shoot or lay ball off to completely unmarked teammate. If I were Capello, I'd play a 4-3-3. You don't need any more than 4 in the back to stop our attack. Besides the added pressure on our wings will KILL us. The trick is to let Rooney roam and do whatever he wants. He's faster than any guy on our back-line. He has more field vision and the speed at which this team plays will keep us on our back heels all day long. Follow this 5 step process and the results are obvious. Anyway, here is my best XI lineup: ---------------Howard------------------- Spector - Gooch - DeMerit - Bocanegra --Landon - Bradley - Edu - Dempsey--- -----------Altidore - Herculez----------- Our crisis at Left Back forces Bocanegra outside, and forces DeMerit up off the bench in a tandem with Gooch who better get his mind in the game. Fairly happy with the attack though.
Two current Galaxy players on the roster, and two Riot Squad Players of the year on the roster, and a total of 4 players who spent significant time with the Galaxy: Landon Donovan (Galaxy): 2 time Riot Squad Player of the Year Edson Buddle (Galaxy) Herc Gomez (Pachuca): 2006 Riot Squad Player of the Year Robbie Findley (Real Salt Lake): drafted by the Galaxy and traded away in the early ******ed Beckham years by a mind controlled Frank Yallop.
Yes, ben...USA v Turkey better be a good show. Glad you are going! Give us a report of how the experience is.
Exactly. He and Spector got exposed badly on the Turk's goal. Demerit should have been in the covering position for Spector and Spector should have tracked back sooner. From The NYTimes: By the way, if America was England, the Newspapers would be calling for the head of Bob Bradley for calling up Jonny Bornstein.
He's got it about right.. Spector was out of postion a couple of times.. but at least he was trying to get ahead. This game showed again that with out Lady cakes on his game we are lost
By the way, with 55,000 in Philadelphia in attendance, that crowd may be the largest Pro-USA audience to see a USA soccer game ever, eclipsing even USA v Ghana in Kaiserslautern during the 2006 World Cup.
