Hope we at least had the courtesy of sending Claudio a text to confirm his sacking, rather than him finding out on the radio

If only he would sack himself.

A load of other media outlets reporting it on twitter too, including the Mirror.

So it’s confirmed pretty much everywhere apart from one outlet…Watford FC.

    Stay classy.

I don’t think I read that anywhere. Do you have a source? Seems unlikely based on general covid data and the fact that some of our infected players were unvaccinated.

The club might be being not classy. But surely classiness in this context would be communicating with Claudio privately before tweeting it out not tweeting it out before newspapers report on it. And the lack of a tweet does not suggest they have or have not communicated with CR privately.

I expect once we have confirmation from the club of his sacking it’ll be more effusive than what we saw for Ivic or Pearson.

I can’t remember what player it was - but it was in an article on the Watford Observer. One player commented that those who had Covid had been training at home and were asymptomatic and the others were designated as close contacts.

Eh? I don’t really follow that?

Ranieri was told on Saturday evening.

As far as I recall everyone had to train at home as the training ground was closed by Public Health England.

Well my point is people (on here, on Twitter etc) seem to be saying it’s not classy that it’s been leaked to the media but Ranieri hasn’t been told. But who cares if it’s been Tweeted yet or not. Classiness in this event is communicating it to Ranieri ASAP to his face and we’ve done that.

Doesn’t change what I said one bit though really? Where they were training makes no difference to them being asymptomatic.

Who cares? Well maybe not them or some fans etc. But to some, we want the club to hold themselves to higher standards of communication and not always looking so underhand publicly. PR matters.

I think it matters. And I’m sure others do too.

Well you haven’t quite shared the article yet and also reported something (that the players who were positive trained at home) that’s a little odd given other reports (that all players shared at home since the training ground was shut). I also doubt that every player was familiar with every symptom of every other player.
I would prefer a club statement but a lot of other clubs have generally had sackings reported by the media first. The notion that things need to be tweeted by the club to confirm things is fairly new. It could be that Ranieri told the media and we’re still in the process of finalising his compensation package.

While I'm not sure that the players' effort levels dropped at Brentford, they were already playing far too defensive in that game when half the performance they put in against Chelsea would have got us at least a point.

This is eerily reminiscent of the final eight games of Pearson's reign, and those of, say, Flores during his first spell and Gracia. At what point do we conclude that the players are at least partly to blame, rather than the manager losing the plot?

The internet is available to you if you want to find the article. I'm 100% confident in what I said and have reported back on and told you where you can find it if you wish. I'm not going to go trawling for it just because you don't believe me.

Given you message me often asking for updates etc, not quite sure why you feel the need to continue on like this but up to you I guess.

I assume this is a joke but as uninspiring as that would be he is in a job and doing fairly well at Verona.

I'm not going to defend Ranieri for sitting back (whether it was a conscious decision, or forced by our lack of control of the midfield), but I can at least sort of understand him making unusual calls given our defence is soooo bad

I wonder if Covid hit some of the players quite badly? I know they were asymptomatic, but as far as I know, that doesn't mean that they can't be affected negatively by it

I didn’t say I don’t believe you. I’d like to read the article as it doesn’t tally with other things that have been widely reported about our covid outbreak, that’s all.

My initial point regarded why we appeared to have abandoned the exciting high press style for the game against West Ham onwards. I stand by that given the conditioning of the players - whether effected by covid recoveries or just the training ground closure and rustiness - it would have been difficult to maintain that high energy approach for that game. Why Ranieri never returned to that I don’t know.

That performance was abject in many ways, but I understand the lower energy style.

Exactly this. Whilst we can point to tactical decisions that were puzzling at best, we didn't lose the the games we have this season purely because Sema came on at 75 minutes.

There's a complete down tools mentality from our players frequently. It used to be once a season but now it's about every 6-8 games.

My hypothesis is that the pressing style was asking too much of the players who didnt like the work rate asked of them and kicked up a stink, hence the rumours of training ground discontent back in early December.

When you have gone through 3 coaches a season for so many years you need to stop looking at the coach as the problem or the solution.
