My prediction is that Man City will get a fine and numerous suspended sanctions. Then it'll be as you were.

2 year transfer ban with a 1 year suspended or reduced to a year on appeal imo.

They will just get the same lawyers in that overturned the UEFA ban if it comes to it .

They should be stripped of the 2019 FA Cup, with it being awarded to the runners up.

You're right, I think it was actually a flag waving competition!

Champions of flag waving, you'll never sing that! #ORNS

I think we would all be satisfied if City were stripped of every title.

All the money in the world and they still feel the need to cheat.

We can sue them for the mental damage that defeat caused - some might say we never recovered.

Strange, really, that in a sport that glorifies the spending of money there can even be an artificial ceiling to that spending.

    Leveraged buyout - absolutely fine
Spending limitless supplies of your benefactor's money - not absolutely fine

The entire Premier League, compared to the rest of the world, is financially 'doped' to the gills. (Not all that keen on the term financial doping because it trivialises real doping).

The opportunity for corruption that exists in football is extraordinary. The chief actors (the clubs) set all the prices of the assets (the players). But those prices are also incredibly elastic.

On the other hand, the absurdity of celebrating the arrival of gazillionaire owners and then capping what they can spend is the most football thing ever.

Yesterday, as Sky Sports News were reporting the Premier League charges against Manchester City, Jamie Redknapp was on next talking about transfers and, in a throwaway line, said that effectively clubs tap up players all the time. We all know this is the case, that the rules – both on and off the pitch – are for suckers.

If I remember rightly, Peterborough did some under-the-counter payments to their players and got relegated two divisions (well, as they'd got promoted they only went down one). If guilty, Man City's offences are far more serious and I look forward to seeing Haarland playing in National League North.

Unless of course they get a massive fine which they won't notice plus a one-year transfer ban.

I guess the idea is that the clubs need protecting from themselves, so they don’t overreach and almost go bust like we’ve seen on many occasions. But I agree welcoming in actual countries (and obscenely rich countries at that) to buy up our clubs with open arms is obviously going to make that job much harder.

I guess so, although I think that the Premier League's primary concern is a club going bust on their watch. I suspect they're not as bothered if a club gets relegated and then tailspins into oblivion.

On a connected point, Portsmouth are the only club in Premier League history to have been docked points for financial reasons (9pts for entering administration in 2009-10).

Does anyone honestly think City will get more than a fine though and not a large one at that. Forfeiting titles etc is just wishful thinking and relegation won'y happen sadly. After the appeals and all it will actually come down to a letter of apology from the FA for taking up their time.

They will find a loophole and get away with lesser punishment.

I think you’re thinking of Swindon who won promotion but were then demoted two divisions which was subsequently reduced to one on appeal. Although Peterborough were demoted in the 1960s for irregular payments.

Always thought punishing the fans for the owners corruption seemed wrong. I would welcome Manchester City getting demoted though largely because the sums of money involved are obscene and it’s long since stopped being a game but has become a brand at the elite level. Different world since the Swindon shenanigans and not for the better.

However, I would be very surprised if any relegation or stripping of titles was upheld on appeal should they be found guilty.

Instead of handing us the F.A Cup, why don't they pay off all our debt and put us a couple of hundred million in the black again? I would certainly take that over the F.A Cup.

Did one team get promoted instead /avoid relegation when Swindon were demoted ?

The fans have clapped and cheered every moment of their financially doped success. They deserve the punishment just as much as the club.

Sunderland, who Swindon had beaten in the play off final, were promoted instead.

Personally would take the FA Cup every time although it would never feel like we had won it. Just think our owners would quickly squander those millions so wouldn’t see any benefit.

I was thinking more of the Swindon and Peterborough fans than the City ones.

Why should Man City irregularities pay for our irregularities. We are in the financial position we absolutely deserve and the fans will need to suck up the outcome.

True it was just a silly idea. Besides, we have no idea how a certain case will effect us soon as well. Let's hope it doesn't implicate us too deep.

I know a lot of the conversation is tongue in cheek, but worth adding that the financial irregularities/ alleged financial fraud happened cover 2009-2018, so nothing will change regarding the FA Cup final.

but surely this would have helped them build the team that played in that final. Not that I think we should be given the cup
