Norwich look like they're going down, combination of lack of quality and bad luck. Looks like Tettey is going to be out for a while, Hazard was hacked down by some other Norwich clogger and fell with his full weight on Tettey's knee. Then just before half time Costa's goal was a mile offside but given anyway.

Could be a decent shoot out for the third spot though.

Crystal Palace come from behind to lead 2-1 v Sunderland. Two Connor Wickham goals, making it four in a week. That's even more remarkable than Rashford.

Would be amusing if Palace managed to go down after all the raving out them earlier in the season.

Bottom 3 (think Newcastle are out of it on goal difference) losing. The current bottom 3 will be the bottom 3. Certainly Villa and Norwich. We'll survive because of that run of 4 games and the fact we have been solid. We haven't scored many but we've been difficult to beat and haven't rolled over and had our bellies tickled like our last two outings

2-0 now but steady on, they're still five points behind.

    Sunderland equalise!

Southampton losing means we can go above them if we win tomorrow by 7 clear goals

Surely we'll survive because we've already got 37pts, won 10 games before February was out and haven't been in the relegation zone all season?

Yeah I don't disagree but that 4 game spell has given us such a cushion.

Anyway i was slightly wrong due to the Sunderland late equaliser...that has made it interesting because I still don't see Newcastle going down. Maybe it will be Swansea but I thought they'd just about escape.

I think Palace could be in for a rough time. Their run in now is awful.

Some big results in the PL tonight. Massive win for Bournemouth in particular.

Bournemouth's run in is horrendous apart from an away match against Villa so they've done themselves a big favour by winning tonight, I doubt that they will get more than 40 points.

WBA also picked up 4 points since the weekend.

Villa are no longer worth thinking about; Norwich are collapsing, on current form I think they will go down. Leaving Sunderland, Swansea and Newcastle each fighting it out; although Bournemouth and Palace are not out of the woods, the ability of those aforementioned teams to grind out a crap result on a regular basis suggests that they should be OK.

Bournemouth only need 3 points to guarantee premiership football next season IMHO. By the end of March I reckon the bottom three will be cut adrift, I suspect at the end of the season the club in 18th will have less than 35 points. A bit embarrassing that our lack of goals has let Chelsea go above us after another away win.

You're right, I'm mortified that the current Champions of England have finally managed to go above us with 11 games to go.

So here is the league table from ourselves downwards:

Looking at the teams below us it's any 2 from 4 from what I can see. I'd say Bournemouth upwards can scrape enough points to make it, despite form, they're not all going to lose every game. Looking at Norwich's last 8 matches they've lost 7 and drawn 1, leaking goals badly, so for me they're gone, leaving 1 from 3. Newcastle have goals but can they produce in time? I think they can. Sunderland have Allardyce, who I'm not keen on, but will get them out of it. I think Swansea are now over the new manager syndrome and are on a downward spiral again.

For me it's Villa, Norwich and Swansea.

I find it amazing that this thread broke the forum before the Tommy Smith thread reached 100 pages

Before yesterday i could see Bournemouth getting sucked into it, but i think this could be the time when Sunderland go down. Norwich and Villa look almost certainties.

Understood, but can you correct the grammar of the thread title please? I know I'm being really anal about this, but it bothers me! The title of the first thread was very acceptable.

    Norwich, Newcastle, Villa.

Sunderland will just pick up he points needed but, crucially, Big Sam will outwit Schteve in the Tyne and Wear six pointer.

Watford, Leicester and West Ham. All total ****, definitely doomed and will all lose every game between now and the end of the season, except Watford who will suddenly win at Old Trafford tonight.

10 games to go - we'll be around where we are. Tight at the back but without Ighalos goals we won't get 3 points

Just as well we have such a gap otherwise I'd be a bit worried but Newcastle cannot win away from home - Norwich not at all and Sunderland look good for half a game but then give silly goals away.

They have to play each other as well..

Looking at our next 5 games I honestly do not know where the points are going to come from, Leicester, Arsenal, Stoke, West Ham and Everton. I can see us losing all 5 and being dragged right into this relegation battle. I know others on here are supremely confident in us staying up, I however am not, I am scared to death.

Is this a serious comment? Sounds like a parody of something HELGO or Corky would say.

If you really are serious, the bottom three (discounting Villa) probably won't even get past our points total, we'd have to lose every game from now on with a massive swing in GD for good measure, and play like we did tonight and we should be confident of getting at least draws against even Stoke, Everton and West Ham, let alone the remaining teams we have to play after them. So stop fretting.

Tonight's result has got me on edge and put me in a negative mood. A draw against Stoke and Everton is possible. We will get nothing from West Ham, they are pushing for Europe and Payet is a machine.

As for our final 5 games, 4 out of 5 we should win on paper but when fighting against relegation everything goes out the window and boils down to which team is willing to fight and I don't think we have many fighters in a squad outside of Deeney and Behrami.

I understand where you are coming from but would 1 point have made a lot of difference to how you feel? I feel confident purely because we are difficult to beat as shown by tonight. 38 points to me is a big psychological step but it was last Saturday we failed, not last night

But I don't get it, it was you who was gushing about our performance on the Man Utd thread and said that we looked like a Premier League team, so what's stopping us from proving that by getting the three points (if that) required? And as for having few fighters in the team, sorry that's ridiculous - out of the top of my head, I can think of at least six others who are up for a battle when it counts - Watson, Cathcart, Britos, Prodl, Nyom and Capoue when he's on form like tonight. Isn't losing only two games against bottom half opposition (and one of them when they were flying) and that winning streak last year against relegation candidates proof that we've got what it takes to comfortably see out the last five games even if we go on another losing run before then? We managed a draw last week to Bournemouth despite being far from our best, who are better than both Villa (who will likely be relegated by then) and Sunderland. West Brom are harder to call but they're incredibly hit-and-miss and if they play anything like they did at the Vic, we've got more than a good chance of a result. Besides, Gomes will come to the rescue if we are under the cosh from these teams' mostly powder-puff attacks.

We are thirteen points from the bottom three with ten games to go. No team has ever been relegated from the top flight from this position, just not going to happen.

Yeah I did say that but doesn't mean I can't be nervous during our run in. As for Nyom, Britos, Capoue and Prodl being fighters we have no idea if they have what it takes to fight a relegation battle in English football. Cathcart and Watson I will give you but the other four have never been in that position before and it takes a different mentality to what they have now to do so.

You're 100% confident of us staying up and that's great, I'm not and I certainly don't think our run-in will be as easy as people think. We could easily lose the next 5 games if we're not careful and find ourselves facing our final 5 games against teams that will be right around us. Until it is mathematically impossible for us to go down, I will not count my chickens early.

You have total permission to rub it in my face if we are mathematically safe with 5 games left because I don't think we will be.

We are safe now. We have been for weeks effectively, as the teams in or around the bottom 3 are a lot worse than we are. Play like we did last night and there will be no bother in picking up more points against the likes of stoke, sunderland etc!
