So true…and double-liked for the clever link to the Manics’ based puns in the ‘Watford For Sale’ thread.

Just throwing out a thought. It doesn’t say they are part of an existing multi-club football model. Just states they are part of a multi-club model, looking to expand. What if this consortium doesn’t own a current football club but owns clubs/franchises in other sports such as the NBA, MLB, NFL and NHL. Those clubs/franchises are stable, so now they are venturing into the world of football.

It was also rumoured that they were doing the same at the Rotherham games to some American business people.

    Quick search brings up

James Dolan - NY Knicks and NY Rangers
Jerry Reinsdorf - Chicago Bull and White Sox
Terry Pegula - Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres

There were a few more but I got bored and you get the jist.

It’s obviously a complete raffle out there but an American like Bob Foley at Bournemouth, an extremely wealthy person who replaced a wanabee wealthy person in Maxim Demin, would be ideal. I feel we’re similarly placed. We’ve got an owner he is obviously several leagues above all of us in personal wealth but will struggle to prop us up at Championship level without parachute payments.

Just to add to that - apparently WBA going for around the £60m mark, including paying off all debt. How the **** are we worth £150m-200m?

Americans don't share our view of the nature of football competition. Neither do Real or Barca, of course, nor some of the English big boys, but we'll never be one of those.

Most outside of the Little Watforders think of us as a London club. Makes us an attractive proposition and a savvy owner will play on that.

I have posted here in the past that WBA are far worse off than us. Would have thought that £80-120m is a fair range. No idea how the valuation is so much higher unless the deal is structured in some way that allows for a higher valuation on paper.

It’s definitely a factor, but being 2 hours closer to London by car doesn’t make us worth £100M+ more than ostensibly bigger clubs like WBA and Brum.

Americans want to win at any and all costs. Like a country of Holebas’. Considering how much he was vilified for being a winner, it must be a frightening thought for our fans.

I imagine the current owners know that Vicarage Road will eventually be sold to make way for a new stadium elsewhere and that there's a fair few £££ tied up in the land VR occupies. The training facilities are quite good too aren't they?

I guess the key factor is proximity to London compared to where WBA is located.

I’m pretty sceptical about all this, as much as everyone wants to bash to pozzos ( not that I’m a flag waver of theres ) we were pretty much ****** without them.
    anyone remember bassini ?? ( spelling )
Hope I’m wrong, and I’m sure il get slack for this but sometimes it’s better the devil you do know opposed to the devil you don’t.

    Interesting times either way

Werent we linked with David Tepper or one of his consortium's at the end of last year? He owns the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte FC. Dont think that was anything more than rumor though

It's a sad reflection of football that we have to get excited at the prospect of some anonymous corporates with no local connection buying into our club.

I'm not saying that I don't necessarily have hope for this potential deal making us better, I just find it a depressing indictment on the beautiful game. I'm grateful it's not some national state buying us.

Wow. My Dad was in the Arnhem campaign too. He was wounded (in a minor way) just down the river at Nijmegen. Apparently the man next to him didn’t survive the same shell blast.

The problem with any money tied up in a stadium is you need to spend more buying up replacement land and then building a brand new one. It will obviously be better long term as far as revenue generation is concerned, but the same principle would apply to any other club with an old stadium. Having the flats built into one of the stands also won’t make it that straightforward, and planning for new lucrative properties is far from guaranteed for anyone buying the land:

    https://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/news/16379812.plans-build-33-flats-vicarage-road-watford-refused/

We also don’t own our training ground, it’s leased from UCL, so difficult to see how that adds much value compared to any other club.

    Ah.
Whenever 'A Bridge Too Far' came on television Dad would say "that's my governor" and point at James Fox*. A soldier's soldier by all accounts.

    * I think it's James. He of 'The Day of the Jackal'.
I always get him and Edward confused.

    Wrong!

    It's Edward Fox. Soppy tart!
