What I don't understand is what Porto see? They're not a bad team at al, far better than us but what are all these world class scouts seeing that I'm missing?
Strong lb to replace Sandro. He's great, but, like most Mexicans, not suited for the PL. Sent from my SM-G920T using Tapatalk
Very passionate, loads of energy, but just didn't deliver anything at all.. What I do find really strange is that he's an international wing back winning the Gold cup with Mexico, we never once play him in his natural position and yet farm him out to a club playing Champions League football. We play him out of position in that supporting 3, yet farm out Foresteiri who's arguably our only natural player in that position without giving him a sniff at a league match... Im not sad to see Layun go..... But I ll be fuming if Angella and Vydra do.
I said that we will see by 1st Sept, Ake has arrived and Layun has gone. There must be people at the club that agree with my assessment
Pretty rough on those who have already bought their Layun shirts...... Not as bad as the Manchester United fan who bought a Pedro shirt.....
Will Layun feature next season?! I personally hope we welcome him back with open arms. He's one of Porto's best players this season and I felt seriously harshly treated by some idiots in our fan base. Also will be a really decent option at left-back if Ake doesn't return.
Porto have the option to buy him, therefore it's up to them if he has a chance to come back to us or not at the moment!
It annoyed me when WD Sport and WO ran articles about the Pozzo's genius with the Layun deal. If we sell him for ~£6m (as I believe is the deal), that will be bad business and a shame.
Layun won't feature next season, he's playing on a regular basis, in his preferred position, playing Champions League football and living in Porto - very easy choice. I wouldn't say he was harshly treated by our fans either, he was playing out of position and really wasn't that good in that position, looked out of his depth most of the time and didn't look like he could match the physical side of the Championship/Premiership. Perhaps if he had played under QSF longer and Porto hadn't of come in it'd be a completely different story and he'd be playing on a regular basis.
Struggled in the Championship, but thought he started this season in a very promising manner and looked set to be a regular before he left.
Why does being right-footed mean you can play on either side? if that's the case, being left-footed should also mean that you can play on either side!
Would love to get him back, but sadly I think Porto will exercise their option to buy him. Is it 100% certain that we can't renege on the option to buy Porto have been given, some have said it is, but are we sure that is definitely the case?
He has had an unbelievably good season at Porto, he has got more assists than any other fullback playing in Europe's top 6 leagues. They even played him at CB vs Dortmund on Thursday.
So a talented player was played out of position while adapting to a new country where he had to hit the ground running to help with the promotion push, yet it's fine that morons went on social media to personally get stuck into him? No, that's not harsh treatment at all. Just the normal brain dead reaction from some Watford fans whenever one of the foreign guys comes in and looks ordinary for a while unfortunately. Not saying you did any of this btw, I know for a fact the guy got some over the top flak on Twitter though.
He'd be absolutely perfect for us next season assuming we don't sign Ake. An absolute shame that there's not a chance he'll be back. Porto are clearly going to value him at £6mil and he'd be mad to want to come back to us when he's doing so well over there.
Porto is an unbelievably beautiful place to live. If I were Layun I think I'd stay put given the choice. Fair enough we've got the pond & INTU, but still.
It's not even £6 million guys. WD Sport completely led people up the wrong way and decided to change the €6 million figure to £6 million. If you don't believe me, you can check the Porto website for the article they done when they got him as they put the figure there if I remember correctly. It probably costs £6 mil as a whole if you include the loan fee, but the transfer fee should Porto choose to buy him is only £4.6 million, which is an absolute travesty and we've been had here.
A right footed full back who can defend, cross, take corners and free kicks, high work rate and good team ethic, with a high assist rate and the occasional goal. We could really do with one of those right now.
So? Don't think Spurs would be happy if they sold Alli for £8m this summer, just because they got him for less.
Don't see the comparison. Everyone's boner for Layun is based purely on performances for Porto. If we'd sold him outright after a season of ordinary performances plus a glimmer of early season alrightness, this would all be history. Whatever he's doing at Porto, good luck to him. He's a nice looking boy and seems lovely, but he didn't pull up any trees whilst he was here and now he's moved on. Best for all parties.
