Pretty glad at this decision tbh. Felt no affection towards him, disappointed he never bothered with English to connect with the fans and certainly didn't enjoy the football. Personally I've felt pretty disconnected from the club as a whole this year, which doesn't all stem from the manager but I cannot stand the attitude and petulance from the players this year and ultimately it's up to the Head Coach to keep them in check. Fingers crossed for someone who can communicate with everyone, stamp some authority on our stroppy players and encourage the talent that we clearly have in the squad.

  2. Stamp authority on our players? That isn't going to happen, our players will be thinking whoever comes in will be gone by next summer so just do what you want

The Mirror report on his sacking says a senior player apparently bunked training three days before the Liverpool home game to play golf because he was sure he wouldn't be involved. He was then picked to start. There's so much wrong with that I don't know where to start.

[QUOTEWhoever it is must have final say on transfers as this lot aren't a 'team', they are just individuals and that is down to the recruitment structure at the club..[/QUOTE]

That would mean a complete rethink by Gino. The theory is that we have continuity because the backroom staff remain unchanged even if the head coach leaves; the reality is that the head coach becomes dispensable and the players know it, and we don't have continuity because the new guy comes in with a different formation in mind and that requires different types of player.

If you listen to Adam Leventhal's report on skysports news, he reads out the statement from Dux & uses the phrase 'WM is standing down at the end of the season'

Does this mean GP has got out of paying the last 2 years of his contract, or is it perhaps a gentlemen's agreement so it looks a bit better on his CV..either way a masterstroke.

To GP, if you're reading this thank you for acting so swiftly & the vast majority of fans support this decision. At least Walter will get a half decent send off on Sunday this way too.

To WM; (Google translate this), you hit the main target but in the modern professional game that doesn't seem enough nowadays as you need to show almost constant progress. You will get a job back in Italy & hopefully this stint at Watford would have reignited your career, so not all bad. Grazie

    Onwards & upwards. Ciao

He's standing down in the same way you hear of people 'helping the police with their enquiries' on the news.

Problem for Walter was that Gino saw the team this year beat Man Utd, Everton, West Ham, Leicester, Arsenal and convinced himself that as we had not managed that last season, his significant investment last summer had indeed improved the squad and a Head Coach capable of making an impact in the Premier League would have done better than 16th/17th. He clearly believes he can get Watford into the top 6 and thought Walter would be the man to do it. Hence the 3 year contract. I expect Gino expected top 10 this year and improvement on that next season- not matching the total of last year was failure. WM never came across as happy here, and he was probably glad to resign and take a negotiated settlement.

I agree but that kind of went out the window when we got WM in because we fired 90% of the backroom team - including Dean Austin which was another mistake - and allowed Walter to bring half or Rome in with him. There was no continuity from what I can see so Gino went against what is perceived to be his preferred way of operating.

Personally, I think Gino might need to adapt. If he wants this club to progress further up the table, he may need to re-think the structure behind the scenes. He needs to pull rank and start showing who is boss.

This club needs to start afresh. Clear the decks and makes no bones about what is expected next season.

Dream on. We don't have a top 6 budget. No where close. If that really is Gino's aim he's trying to do it on a shoestring.

Couldn't help myself look at the Bournemouth forum & in fairness this made me laugh:

Ranieri would be excellent, I have no idea why some are so against him. The man won the Premier League with a squad not much better than ours.

I will never claim to be ITK generally, but something I can tell you for an absolute fact is that there was most certainly a somewhat pathetic rebellion by a number of the Leicester players after winning the title, which ultimately lead to Ranieri's dismissal. Ranieri wanted the squad to buckle down and try their best to kick their careers on and attempted to introduce more strict rules on diet and lifestyle, to which a number of players responded to with a middle finger and effectively downed tools. A classic case of moron footballers letting success go to their heads rather than taking the opportunity to elevate themselves to greater heights.

Oh, and before anyone tries to make comparisons to how some of our players have supposedly responded similarly towards Mazzarri, there's a huge difference between treating a almost universally well thought of, Premier League winning manager that has just taken you from complete obscurity to champions of England that way, compared to a manager that has quite clearly done nothing but take you and the club backwards. It's completely wrong either way, but my point still stands.

Very glad WM has gone, since January, aside from the occasional freak win, it's just been dire.

I'm not too fussed about who we bring, knowing the Pozzo's it won't be any of the bookies favourites anyway, but whoever comes in HAS to build the team around Doucoure, by far our biggest asset and the biggest positive for me this season.

  16. Considering how many big clubs Ranieri got to manage through his career its amazing he won so little

Actually, no it's not amazing, he's carp

    The Pozzos don't fire managers.

They all seem to go voluntarily and quietly, exactly when the Pozzos want them to go, barely discussing their time at the club.

Some conspiracy theorists might say that for PR reasons, the Pozzos do actually fire a lot of managers, and pay the managers off for their silence and cooperation. But that's crazy, right??

I agree however I think WM is going because we didn't get enough points against the poorer teams like we did last year, ie this season we lost away to Hull and Sunderland (both relegated) and last year won at the likes of West Brom and Stoke which we lost to this year! its all very well getting three fantastic results in Man u, Arsenal and West Ham but you still have to get results in the bread and butter games!

Plus the communication problem would have gone a long way to not helping his cause!

The two people who've been most spoken so far have both managed teams who've been in the bottom three at some point this season, lower in fact than we ever sunk.

He done the gentlemanly thing by stepping down, he probably realises he did not earn the right to stay on by the way his team performed on the pitch, and he failed to do what he should have done off the pitch either.

I can't say I'm sorry to see him go, as he was just not right for our club.

Whatever else one might say, he will go down as one of the longer serving managers in our recent history. At least he completed a full season with us.

One source also told us that the focus on intense and frequent training sessions rather than the use of valuable recovery time was also an issue. - Taken from Adam Leventhal's report on Sky.

Not saying that he caused all the injuries this season, but this clearly did not help. You can't train and train and train with no recovery. It is no surprise that our players muscle imbalance hamstrings, calfs etc would go and be out of wack.

This news had made my day ,however a lot of pressure on Gino to get it right this time , new guy is going to have to be good tactically be able to motivate a squad all season and attract quality players in .

Ranieri would be an absolute disaster. Everything I've heard come out of the club regarding Slav since he left suggests that they accept they made a mistake in forcing him out. Would love to see him brought back.

    Similar situation as Leicester .

Players revolted , Ranieri lost respect and so the situation becomes untenable.

Can't sack all the players so you have to sack the manager .
