Yes, there has been a massive difference between sales and purchases. Basically we have received a healthy profit of around £170m over the past 3 years.

No one seems to be really looking into that, as to why with all that profit, plus a season in the Prem why we still have massive debts to service. It could be something sinister or just gross incompetence by those running the club. I think it’s more likely the latter.

The club has been poorly run for quite some time now from a business sense and that’s firmly at Gino’s and Duxbury’s door. No one else to blame for the massive debt other than those two.

People will always talk about Pedro and Richarlison and the others you mentioned, but they all come from the same continent, three of them from the same club!!. I’ve always maintained we had/have something good going on in South America. But that’s where it ends and it’s basically saved us from an even worse state than we’re in now.

Our trading in Europe, apart from a couple of exceptions, has been diabolical in terms of making money on players. For too long we’ve been spending relatively high fees with high agent commission for absolute dross. Again, that’s all on Gino and this time Giaretta/Giraldi.

There’s enough evidence of clueless failure for me to think these guys are dangerous to have running our club. They could end us, I really believe that, and that’s why I’m so concerned. Their judgement is flawed as has been proven over a long period of time now.

There is a chink of light with Manga though, but will his way be enough? We will see, but so far we’ve only really done half a job. The clear-out has been ruthless but the recruitment has been lame. We’re in a really vulnerable place right now, unless good players are forthcoming during this last week. This time next week is the last day of the window.

They are net negative £30m per Transfermarket website, but that included inter group which may or may not need to be stripped out depending on your “one pocket” view.

I'd guess the money we've spent on Udinese players is pretty similar to the money we've received over the years so doubt it makes much difference, whatever your viewpoint is.

Not sure why we give this self-serving over-excitable fan so much publicity on this website. Who cares what that one particular fan thinks ? If he wants to post on here, then great.

Just part of the wider soap opera like ultra Pozzo footsoldier Wendover. Don’t you listen to those twitter spaces? Some can be quite amusing if you have time to burn.

We were at a €30m loss from transfers since the Pozzos came in which is pretty good compared to most other clubs. But that's just transfers which are a small part of it - wages are generally the biggest expense a football club has and wages alone usually exceed a clubs incomings in the Championship. Of course being in the PL helps with that, but then the money spent on transfers (and then subsequently more wages) goes up alongside that. Then you have stadium upgrades on top of that which can't have been cheap.

Nah, that was another Udinese keeper, a 19 year old. Okoye looks like he's going into their first team.

    That all makes sense.

My wider point is that I'm happy for us to take risks on young players and accepting that some of them will be duffers but that you only need a few to come good. It also makes things more exciting than journeymen plodders with Championship experience.

I'd be happy if we got a load of the players from your scouting thread.

Not sure he last here tbf. He would be contradicted at every turn of phrase and called out by a few I have no doubt. His blood pressure is already at it's limit with the club ownership - no need to push it over the edge. Then again, on the DNSYE Podcast he can come across as a very passionate fan. So we could get some good insight on his views. No, I am not going to ask him if he would like to become a member, so you can rest easy. ;)

List of the top 50 clubs in England from the 12/13 season sorted by money spent on transfers. We've spent the 19th most on transfers in that time but our overall net balance (-€24m) is much better than most other clubs that are around our level. Leeds spent 2 seasons less than us in the PL in that time and have spent nearly €200m more on transfers etc. We've definitely made a lot of mistakes in that time but not many clubs have actually outperformed us in terms of transfers vs results

Is there before the Okoye transfer went through. That, plus the fees we'll eventually get for Louza and Asprilla will probably break us even, I'd imagine. Pretty impressive, considering how many duds we seem to bring in.

Yeah that was pre Okoye (and Rajovic) so might be off by a few million. Our duds have been balanced out by the large successes and our ability to general recoup fees pretty well

Nice, thanks. How does this site handle undisclosed fees and all that, or will it assume £6m for Okoye when it’s probably not that accurate?

They're usually pretty good with finding out undisclosed fees, it's generally only the transfers to Udinese they don't have a good idea on, so there's some they don't have a value for but I'm not sure they'd make a massive difference to the totals. They currently don't have values for:

The most significant one there would be Pereyra - that was €15m iirc (this is public as we took out loans on the installments)

Surely they're not so much finding out undisclosed fees as just guessing them?

  25. reids

    reids First Team

I'm not sure how they do it really, I reckon clubs/agents might actually tell them as it's in everyone's (in the game) best interests to have an accurate log of values (even if clubs technically announce it as undisclosed) so clubs etc can accurately gauge how much a player is worth. I've never looked at a value on there for undisclosed transfers and thought it unrealistic or unreasonable

Chelsea's number is beyond any football fans' wildest dreams. £2.42 billon and they hardly troubled the top four. I don't know how they operate neither do I care, but could you imagine Gino being given that sort of budget? Mogi would be a multi multi millionaire.

If Gino had that sort of budget, we’d no doubt be £2.42 billion in debt to Macquarie Bank. So it’s just as well he’s only a multimillionaire.

Very unfair Skyla, I'm certain Mogi would take pity and show due financial restraint given our current economic crisis.
