I can't believe Flintoff will quit now unless he is dead.

If he helps England win this series with bowling performances like that, he'll have surpassed Botham as this country's favourite cricket legend.

For me though, the MOM should have gone to Strauss. His first innings score was the reason we won that test. Simple as that.

Also the excellent decision to not enforce the follow on. I still believe that the Aussies batting in fine conditions would have got a big score and forced us to bat on a lesser pitch in dodgy weather conditions chasing a fair total to win.

I must say though, Flintoff in that first innings was unplayable, mid 90's mph all the time and continued the form today.

Oz without Warne and McGrath are a decent side but nothing extra special.

India probably edge the best side in the world as Oz lack a decent spinner now and much of that batting line up excluding Hughes is on its way the wrong side of thirty.

Excellent win sets up the series. Time to dispense with Bopara at three and with KP out who should be recalled or called ? Trott ? Kieswetter purely as a batsman and surely a future England wicketkeeper ? Pity both were actually born in Sud Afrika though.

Or Prior as a specialst Batsman with Pothus (anothing Afrikan by the way!) in as keeper? His record for the last year or so is excellent as a batsman. I reckon Bell is a stonewall to come in for Piterson now, especially as he scored well for Wawarkshire recently, which is a shame as I am not a fan of his or COllingwood to be honest at test level.

Jacques Rudolph will also be qulified soon as well, so we could be the SA 'A' team.

We sure could. Zander de Bruyn has been doing well and that name is Afrikaans. But like Pothas he is already well into his thirties so unlikely to be called.

Stephen Davies and Kieswetter are in my opinion chasing Prior.

Bell is okay but doesn't adjust his game enough to the flow of the game. I would not mind seeing Key coming in at three perhaps (third opener rather than specialist three).

No great fan of Collie either despite his heroics at Sofia Gardens.

I agree with most of that.

Certainly agree about Flintoff not giving up now unless he's dead!

I think the MOTM award was probably right. Strauss batted very well indeed, and his captaincy throughout was superb. Good field placings, good bowling partnerships, and good bowling changes at the right time!

However, Flintoff's bowling spell this morning won the game. He was bowling CONSISTENTLY at 90-95mph. Normally fast bowlers bowl around 85-89mph, and slip the odd ball in at 90+, but Freddie did it time after time this morning (hence his f**ked knees and ankles).

Add that to the fact Broad and Anderson (although JA bowled well) didn't look like taking wickets all morning or yesterday afternoon, so we relied upon Freddie, and he duly stepped up to the plate - AGAIN!

Fantastic result for England. 75 years of hurt gone in a flash of a 90mph'er ball from Freddie.

I think the England selectors should think about picking Freddie just for the bat and have him bowl the odd flash of 3 overs or so once in a while.

I don't begrudge the MOM to either Strauss or Flintoff.

Now let's celebrate this quickly before preparing for the next test. To go 2-0 up would be a blow I can't see the Aussies recovering from.

Edgbasten is certainly a result pitch. Can see Harmison getting a chance here, especially if Flintoff is out or Sajid Mahmood, and just being told to bowl as fast as he can.

Yes. but is the fastest bowler is the country. If the selectors believe this to be a weakness in the Aussies, do not be suprised to see him picked. I personally do not rate him as he bowls all over the place but can assure you, his name will be in the squad of 14 if Flintoff is out.

What about Sidebottom, I expect he will be the most likely? Also, how is Hoggard getting on these days?

I get your point but Bopara's contributions for the first two tests have been quite poor.

this might be the catalyst he needs for improvement - he has got bags of quality just waiting to come out. Next test century for him!

Agreed, Shah is similar to him but better anyway but if Ian Bell is doing well at the moment bring him in he is a great batsman.

I thought hoggard has retired from test matches?

The Hogster is out on his ear sadly. It was all a bit brusque and sudden for him in a communique from the WECB whilst they were shucking the ship from Alan Stanford's enormous anusole. :naughty:

The Aussies would love for Mahmood to bowl. I can just imagine the likes of Hussey ,Haddin and Johnson clattering him all over Edgebaston.

Bopara ought to take over Collie's place over the next year or so. Number three is a hard spot to fill even for a player like Laxman or Dravid to a lesser extent.
