thing is, their target audience will lap it up for two reasons:

    1. The vague whiff of nonce sense - no matter the details or the technical lack of any, it's still been puffed up enough for them to lable Edwards another from the Glitter/Savile stews.
    2. It's anti BBC. The Sun readership hate the woke Beeb and enjoy any chance to pile on.

It's exactly what the Sun would of wonted

I’ve yet to see anything that suggests this is anything more than ill advised, no doubt he’ll be strung up for it and painted as a Saville esque monster

Wow, wasnt expecting Huw Edwards, looks like he did nothing illegal though so hope he and his family are left alone to heal.

Totally disgusted with the way The Sun have handled this, hopefully this will blow up in their faces and sink the piece of sh1t that it is. Looking forward to Huw and his family taking them to court.

Looks like the right wing press have it in for the BBC and are willing to dig into the private lives of anyone that works there to score cheap shots.

maybe I’m old fashioned but a 61 year old paying a 17 year old for naked pictures does not sit comfortably with me at all. If that was my daughter I’d want him strung up

Do we know it was a daughter?

FWIW I largely agree and I still think this is predatory behaviour exacerbated by the “don’t you know who I am” threats.

Wouldn't be the first time that The Sun embellished the facts to make it fit their own agenda.

In the gym and BBC news is on on mute. It's just clips and photos of Huw Edwards like he's dead.

Despite numerous libel cases they still don't seem to get it. I'm in no position to understand why he has done what he has done. Personally I don't think it's very seemly at all but he's not broken any criminal law. However from now on he'll have to live like a recluse. I don't know what will happen with his family either. For the sake of trying to sell their dirty rag these charlatans posing as journalists are quite happy to destroy a man. If something should happen to him if it's true what his wife has said they will have a lot to answer for.

What people get up to in their private lives so long as it is not criminal or being hypocritical to the way they behave in public should remain private. I never have understood this fascination in rummaging around in other people's private lives, what they wear, where they go, who they are going out with. It's the grubby side of life. So long as the previous proviso's are met. Private Eye for instance does a great job in revealing what is actually newsworthy. It's a pity these tabloid publications can't do the same.

Would have been great if he was carrying on as normal and then it was revealed while he was live on air.

It will be the same mob who cannot understand the difference between paediatrician and paedophile. It's unfortunately being desperately turned into another battering ram from those who would like the BBC abolished for whatever reasons they have. Political bias, desperate to control the mass media and outlets or events they still have. The BBC has certainly declined in quality on BBC1 and 2 as David Attenborough himself mentioned. But the bastions of quality are still there on BBC4, Radio's 3,4 and 6. With the Murdoch mob it as in America would be a race to the bottom and a fully fledged idiocracy.

I agree, it was predatory behaviour and like you say when he didnt get what he wanted he resorted to threats and trying to leverage his status to pressure the person into giving him what he was after. He might not have committed a crime but his behaviour is still very morally questionable.

I have very little sympathy for Huw in all honesty. I do however have a great deal of sympathy for his wife and kids who have had it publicly revealed (if they didnt know already) that their husband/father has been using a dating app for the past 3+ years and even allegedly broke covid restrictions to meet someone from that site.

I think the bottom line ultimately, is that the grubby side sells. Certainly more than reading yet another article about how bad the Tories are or what they've ****ed up now or that the next Labour government is most likely going to be every bit as awful as the current Tory one or cost of living etc

I don't know how I feel about any of this but I think @Chewitt summed it up earlier - sounds like at worse he's been a bit silly and ill-advised rather than anything illegal.

That being said, I do feel rather uncomfortable about the age gap between him and the young person involved in this. If anything untowards has occurred his marriage and career will most likely be over which is right. It's a shame as I thought he was one of the better newsreaders out there but he's been a very silly boy by the sounds of it.

Personally I think the nation owes the Sun a great debt of gratitude for revealing Edwards to be the perverted, bullying weirdo he appears to be. And to think it was him that broke the news of her majesty the Queen's death to the world. Makes me feel sick to the pit of my stomach just thinking about it

If that was the case, the Police would be prosecuting. You don’t actually know what’s happened here.

But the press have got you wanting someone ‘strung up’ without due process. What a Country.

His biggest mistake was letting the young people know who he was. Just stupid. The other mistake was doing this in the first place.
I do feel sorry for Huw though, seems very likeable apart from the obvious flaws and I wish him well.

I once had to fix an issue with a very senior chaps laptop at my organisation, he bypassed IT and came to see me on the quiet. It had a problem where during any PowerPoint presentation it would fire up some nasty comic style porn!, (it had never happened with an audience so far) I cleaned it up and gave it back to him and nothing more was ever said. He's now much more senior and we cross paths regularly, and with this Huw thing raging I wondered how it would work out for him if this ever came out, (it won't). I suspect it wouldn't be good for him.

What he’s done is definitely ill advised and very morally questionable, but, to the best of my knowledge he wanted pictures from this ‘young person’ so there was no actual real life contact/relationship/sexual acts carried out etc?

Unlike Schofield who actually groomed and had a relationship with someone much younger he actually worked with.

As a say, very ill advised, but in reality it’s a world away from what someone like Schofield did and certainly a million miles away from the likes of Saville.

If those are true, with ‘if’ doing a lot of heavy lifting. Sure, the allegations are unpleasant and if true may be neither wise, admirable or compatible with his continued role, even with mitigation of his mental health state (which could have affected his level of inhibition).

But if his behaviour is simply visiting sites with cam performers or porn, then he is revealed as fairly average UK bloke. Britain consumes a ton of porn, most of it created by young people (and your mum). Much of it is deeply nasty (so I’m told).

What I’m saying is, I don’t think the menfolk of the UK should be quick to stand in judgement until it’s very clear what happened.

My understanding is that, of the high profile presenters, he is one of the nicest and, unlike many of them, is humble and decent to work with.

The police wouldnt prosecute anyway for offering to pay silly money for nudes of someone, above the age of consent, via tinder or whatever dating app they met that person on. I would have thought the second person whose come forward with texts (which BBC news claimed they have verified) in which Huw was both threatening and trying to use his position to to get a nude picture after his offer to buy was rejected would be the more serious allegation, even if the police arnt considering it a crime.

All very true, his biggest error is seemingly trying to obtain something that probably millions of men get for free anonymously on the internet, in a way that left him very open to being found out.

They absolutely should stand in judgement - he's pricing most menfolk out of the market. £35k? what was he thinking. No one is going to be able to afford porn at that price!
