Anya was poor? He wasn't. People just don't like him. He was good defensively and offered a genuine threat in behind. He wasn't our best player but he did ok and his pace scares defenders.
Listening on absolute, what I liked was how little, really, Cathcart Prodl and Gomes were mentioned, considering the calibre of opposition. By the sounds of it, Capoue & Behrami were superb at stopping issues before they developed. Also, that we went there and were tight & organised without sacrificing ambition was great. If we do that every game we'll get the odd shellacking, but we'll also pick up some good results.
He offered very little support to Holebas and was his useful wasteful self when presented with opportunities to cross the ball or shoot. But whatever, he was part of a good team performance so I don't want to hate on him.
The thing with Anya is that once a game he's guarenteed to have a Doyley moment. For example randomly kicking the ball 30 odd yards straight out for a corner to Everton. As it was, on the whole, i thought he had a good game. Worked hard and put himself about
The woman covering our game was very positive. She had been saying "it was all everton" before Iggy scored, but at the end, in summary, she was pretty much gushing about us (no, not in that way, you dirty boy!).
I thought (like many of our players) he did very well in the first half, but wasn't so great second. He caused their LB a few problems and put in a good cross for our goal.
She was correct. The second half had been mostly Everton before Ighalo's goal. When Barkley scored, I was thinking 'here we go' until the mighty Odion struck.
I feel that sometimes Anya is too fast, I often see him in the final third waiting for support and that's when he tends to lose it
Everton fans I have to say how welcome the Everton fans made us feel today both before and after the game fans milling around together it was great to see Chatted with a good few this is how it should be
I struggled to see much of the game as I was constantly interrupted by a poor viewing experience, but from what I could see: Gomes looked good and had no chance with the first goal (didn't see the second). He came and got a lot of balls and looked at ease. Nyom - looked fantastic. A real athlete and a great, strong defender. Prodl - good at defending but poor on the ball Cathcart - looked comfortable at this level. So happy to see the guy step up. He's like a true Watford player of old, sort of came from nowhere (released by Blackpool) but then went all the way to the top with us and was so important all the way. Holebas - like I say I didn't see all the game very well without interruption, but I thought he looked very good going forwards. He was out of position once or twice, when losing possession. I think he looked good though. Layun - It may be early to say he's proved his doubters wrong, as he's not yet stuffed their criticism right down their throats, but I think he's shown he can be a key player for us. Jurado - feed cut out every time he got the ball. Could be utter crap for all I know. Anya - I feel that he looks a bit gutless at times. He needs to go for it a bit more, both in attack and defence. Again - judging by earlier comments - it's entirely likely that I missed his best work whilst I was restarting my machine. Capoue - As with Jurado - it was like he caused some sort of malfunction in my feed whenever the ball came near him Behrami - looks nowhere near a player, but still gets the ball. He's like Mr. Fantastic. Just stretches out and steals the ball. He got tired and it showed, but I like him. He looks like an underground enforcer for the Serbian mafia. Deeney - laboured hard and did well with the half sniffs he had.
Wasn't much fun in the home end when they equalised ... I've never had so much stick in my life! I had no chance of laying low ... the first thing my mate Nick did in the ground was point me out to everyone around ... the ****!
Bit embarrassing though ain't it? Big old Everton, score a late equaliser against Tinpot Watford, and they need to give the away fans stick? I like it.
Gomes looked at ease? Understatement of the year Moog. I had to laugh at a sky pundit saying him looked panicked.... The amount of times I saw: Ball goes in, Gomes jumps to collects. Holds the ball for a few seconds, rubs the back of an Everton players head, strolls over to high five an Everton player, before smiling at his defenders. Then calmly throwing the ball into the Everton half. Genuinely never seen a keeper look so happy and relaxed.
I was right in the corner didn't think there was any more stick given to us than we gave out the 2 times we took the lead but that is to be expected all dropped outside afterwards
Everton - Twitter Watch Interestingly at various points though out the day #Watford and #ighalo were top trending topics in spain. José Manuel Jurado @Jurado10Marin · 2 hrs2 hours ago It's being a special day, cause of my first official match with the WatfordFC in the Premier. Thanks to all the fans who came to support us
Na ... it was just me and it was all light hearted including a couple of slaps to the back of my head when I started singing Igalho's song!
Nyom... what a beast! Holebas has to improve with the ball on his feet. Also, every attack by Everton was on his side. Behrami looked fantastic but I think he'll be sent off in a lot of games... haha. We saw the game live in Spain because (think so) the two managers
Level on points, goal difference and goals scored with Chelsea .......I'd take that at the end of the season :tongue1:
Got back about 30 minutes ago. Fans were immense - 90 minutes of noise. Felt slightly disappointed at the end after scoring so late then conceding so soon after but I guess I'd have taken a point beforehand. Great day out. COYH
Bit worried if we continue with 4231 we down have the cover for Capoue, Behrami and Deeney. Maybe we should sign more players!
Thought Nyom was guilty of aimless hoofing at times, but defensively top notch Everton tested him a lot first half and switched to pressuring Holebas second half instead which was telling Behrami and Capoue as the midfield pairing were the standouts, Prodl and Cathcart and CB also did well, as did Gomes
One thing's for certain this year, although we might get beaten, we won't get bullied. It was so frustrating seeing our talented team getting knocked out of their stride in the Championship by physical, aggressive teams like Ipswich and Norwich. We have signed some solid, experienced players who will be prepared to win the physical battle to allow others to play. A couple of things really stood out for me in relation to team spirit: 1. Deeney's celebrations for both goals showed how much being in the Premier League with us means to him - no idea what he'll do when he scores himself; 2. Behrami's reaction after running about 20 yards to make a tackle in the first half. He was visibly annoyed at himself for letting the ball run out for a throw even though he'd made a really good tackle. As a team mate seeing that kind of commitment, I think it can only inspire you. Here's to our motley crew of foreigners and underrated Brits forging a great spirit and sticking it to all the people that wrote them off!
