    anyway, hats off to liverpool.
All those foreigners massed around them in a stadium at a european final - and yet no deaths, stabbings, or riots.
The only crime perpetrated was the rendition of YNWA.

Dropping a tab before that sort of gig is just like pi55ing in a river, though.

Sony bought them from the Jackson estate. Usually, artists are signed with publishers who the venues pay a collective licence to. You could be correct that it may still be different with the Beatles and require costly individual negotiation, but probably not with McCartney’s solo material.

The show could have picked something by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Cilla Black, Pete Wylie, Echo and the Bunnymen, Teardrop Explodes, The Lightning Seeds, the Christians, the Real Thing etc but they chose the songs they did because the UK’s Eurovision people are appalling musical philistines.

Perhaps easier for me to remain more objective than usual because I didn't watch the whole show this year. I saw 5 or 6 other performances which were all much better than MM, except Germany, which rightly came last.

Well, we were at least saved from Cilla.

Shame there was no Frog Chorus.

Doing EV too outrageously camp/gay even for FGTH?

'look, we didn't mind spraying spunk in leather-filled videos but we draw the line at boas and limegreen jumpsuits'

tbf, they did that gig in the city on monday, iirc

The French nation is fuming over the disgrace caused by its entrant, broadcast giving the very disgusting north african version of 'the finger' when her poor public vote was revealed.

Politicians are calling for heads to roll at the French equivalent of the BBC, whose woke cabal inexplicably selected the vulgar Morocco-Canadian candidate to represent France.

Suddenly, coming second-last on home territory with an off-key singer and sh*t 'song' doesn't seem so bad...

If anyone wans to know...the magrebhian 'toooz' gesture involves a downwards and then an upwards erect finger. Apparently mimicking the motions of one down the c*nt and the other up the ar*e.

Bumping this from the first time I heard our entry.

Look, you can accuse her of singing flat or some other malfunction - un-forseen issue on the night, but please stop papering over the obvious fact that she and the song were utter cr*p from the start ;)

It's just because the Europeans hate us. It would have won had it been the Spanish entry.

The biggest surprise of the lot on Saturday (a fantastic event in my opinion btw) was Greece only gave Cyprus 4 points. As Greece didn’t qualify, Cyprus had to look elsewhere to give their 12 points this time too.

I genuinely can’t recall this ever happening before.

Host countries traditionally fare badly btw

I forget who but I think it was Portugal fairly recently who came last the year after winning it

Anyway take no notice of me. I’m quite clearly a bad person as I’m still having lovely dreams about the Israeli singer lol

Err I actually thought Germany were pretty good, more entertaining than UK. Croatia and Finland my faves along with the Icelanic scores announcer.

A few conspiracy theories on-line regarding the Swedish entry.
It's very similar to something that has already been released and there was a will to give them the show on the 50th aniversaty of ABBA.
I think Finland Norway and Isreal were better.

The UK entry was mid table imho. Catchy, a decent pop song, and more commercial than most which makes it non-eurovisiony. Unfortuately the staging was poor and the sound mix was off, certainly on the Sky broadcast of BBC. I might re-watch it in stereo to see if the surround balance was wonky. Both BBC and Sky have a habit of screwing that up. She just seemed very quiet but then in rehersals she was critcised for being a bit flat. I wonder if her monitors were working, they've been screwed for a UK entry before IIRC. Add this to the usual anti-UK politicing and 2nd last wasn't massively harsh.

I think it was a midtable song, with perhaps bottom of the scoreboard performance and bottom 3 staging.

It deserved more on the night, but not much more.

french media now muttering about swedish 'plagiarism'.
aside from abba, two other records are being cited as 'inspiration'. rather sportingly, one of the alleged victims says she doesn't mind. mind you, will her co-writers and publishers be quite so understanding?

I find it kind of funny (I find it kind of sad?) that this year the jury vote is a conspiracy, because people wanted Finland to win. I've seen numerous calls (from Brits) for the jury vote to be scrapped or policed. However, a year ago everybody was whinging about the public vote because 'Sam Ryder should've won' and Ukraine only got the sympathy vote... The UK finished 5th in the public vote, it was the jury who gave him most of his points!

People will complain whatever happens. Keep it how it is and just bloody get over it. It's a bit of fun, just chill.

The studio version is a mid-table song, but the live version was very different. I hope she fades into obscurity like Surie, Michael Rice and Electro Velvet - she's so unlikeable.

The furious French entrant has now taken to social media and hilariously told her critics that she "p*sses in their mouths and b*ggers them with a cucumber".
(tbf, sounds like standard post-eurovision party fare, luv.)
If only her command of insults had been matched by her control of notes...

We have had Waterloo and last year's effort from Sam Ryder as songs with any credibility.
Everything else is as camp as a row of tents.
When Eurovision "artistes" complain I just think "why did you enter a zero cred comp.?"

    Great point. No doubt.
However , apart from Abba and maybe Sam Ryder can you think of any artists that had a career ?
Bucks Fizz maybe ? Brotherhood of Man ?

Celine Dion, Bucks Fizz, Cliff Richard all had some success.

Admittedly for about 30 years from the mid 80s the acts were largely unsuccessful gimmicks, however in recent years there's been a shift in the legitimacy of acts. Loreen shifted the mood in 2012 towards a more commercial style, since then artists have started to have more mainstream success.

Duncan Laurence has had over 1 billion streams of his winning song in 2019.

Maneskin, the 2021 winners, have had a Grammy nomination, 40 million singles sold, a total of 4 billion streams, 6 diamond, 133 platinum and 34 gold certifications.

As you say, from 2022 Sam Ryder has done well for himself.

From this year I expect Noa from Israel to have international success. Remember, just because artists aren't in the UK charts doesn't mean they've not had successful careers (Mahmood might be one example?).

Plus Sandie Shaw, Lulu, Olivia Newton John...
Lyndsey de Paul had her day too.
France Gall (1965 winner) then had regular hits in europe for the subsequent 25 years.
Gigiola Vinquetti won in 1964 and later came second to Abba, with a string of eurohits in the decade between. Toto Cutugno (1990 winner) was one of Italy and france's biggest pop names/writers; wrote career biggest hits for Dalida & Joe Dassin.

Katrina and the Waves had a top ten single and album besides their eurowinner.
And what about our own beloved ginger scouse popstrel, dozen-hits Sonia? (What was that about credibility? :D)
