WFCs 'hundred million pound mistake' in the transfer window https://lastwordonsports.com/football/2022/02/01/the-position-watford-needed-to-invest/
Those stats on Bachmann look odd. Surely he’s a good stopper but struggles with crosses which wouldn’t show up on those? I’m probably misunderstanding.
Oh yeah, I'm not denying he's capable of that, was just saying that he hasn't had an absolute clanger that's led to a goal yet this season, hence why thought he'd be a good bet for one against Burnley.
He's a good shot stopper in the champo but he's letting more than 1 unexpected goal every 2 games he plays in the PL. Compare that to peak Gomes and Foster when they were our get out of jail free cards. It's a huge difference for a side fighting relegation. A fatal difference.
----------------- Foster ----------------- Ngakia - Sierralta - Samir - Kamara ----------------- Etebo ------------------ ---------- Sissoko - Kayembe ---------- ---------- Kalu - King - Pedro ---------- I predicted in the Norwich thread that any deviation from the team I posted would result in a 4-0 hammering, in the end Norwich showed mercy and it only ended up 3-0. This time, any deviation from this side will result in a 8-0 pasting, 7-0 if Burnley also get bored of scoring goals the way Norwich did. You have been warned, Roy.
Yeah absolutely, it's a fair bet - wasn't aggressively pushing back, just providing my receipt for my earlier claim really - with the 7 million calamities that we've witnessed this half season, it's easy to forget and some of them are breathtaking. Even the ones that don't lead to goals!
Pedro seems too selfish this days, I will start Cucho over him. And I think Pedro often plays better whenever he comes on in the second half. Sent from my TECNO P701 using Tapatalk
Bet one of Cleverley or even Gosling plays and Sema! Pedro has been one of our better players in recent weeks - has to start .
I quite like your team but I don't think Roy will take your advice. I can't see Watford starting with 3 forwards. It's going to be 'baton down the hatches' for a while.
You mean go full Quique? Problem with this is that when he tried it we burned through a load of winnable games which probably cost us in the end.
The problem is that if you "baton down the hatches" too much then we lose any goal threat. What are we going to do, play Cleverley right midfield and Sema on the left in a 5? If we do that we can kiss good bye to scoring more than about another 5 goals the rest of the season. We could sit Kalu and Pedro/Cucho deeper to make it more of a 4-5-1 rather than a 4-3-3, with Etebo or Kayembe dropping deeper to anchor the midfield, but we cannot remove all attacking threat and talent from the side. We have to retain that ability to cause teams problems going forward. Suddenly picking up a few 0-0 draws does little for us. We have to start winning some games.
You aren’t going to get very far with that type of talk. We could need a win on the last day to stay up and people would praise the draw afterwards.
It's not what I think we should do. I just can't see Roy doing anything else tbh. Hopefully he sets us up so we have enough of an attacking threat to win a few games.
I think Roy goes for experience, although I'm not convinced he goes 4-4-2, simply because we've not got a lot of outside players who aren't comfortable with it. If he can find 2 players that he feels can play deep lying in MF he could easily do that. All that means I think that Sissoko and Cleverley start. If Etebo is ready he starts as well. If not, who knows? King up top is also a given, I expect Femenia (if healthy) Cathcart, Samir and Kamara in the back. The rest, no idea. I like the prospect of throwing Kalu at them as they've never seen him.
Losing this might even be a good thing, as it could increase the motivation of the players and become the turning point of our season.
Gives me horrifying flashbacks to our game at Turf Moor behind closed doors, Clev may have been left midfield/wing that day, but what on earth was Pearson thinking?!
He's a competent shot-stopper who doesn't let in many clangers, but the advanced level stuff is too much for him. I've said it before, he was the better option for us in the Championship with limited strikers who didn't have the capability to do the unexpected, compared to Foster who at the time was doing odd stuff like letting in 25 yard headers
A truly, truly sickening thought. Sema isn't suddenly good enough just because we might choose to play more defensively/conservatively. He's still absolute **** and completely out of his depth in the Premier League. Hopefully Roy is smart enough to see that.
Oh I agree. But he's the hardworking type that some managers seem to like, even though he doesn't have the footballing brain to go with it!
At this point I think we have to trust woy knows what he's doing and support his decisions The football isn't going to be pretty, but that's not the objective
Last Friday night/ Saturday Morning at 4:45am after a heavy night of drinking I put in a 7 leg parlay that ended with Watford winning this game. It was $25/$2500 and the first 6 legs have all hit. Ironically what brought me to be a fan of this team was a bet some 3 years ago that I made when I first decided to watch Football. After a heavy night of drinking on a Friday I woke up Saturday morning and asked my buddy who was a big Chelsea fan if there were any bets I should make in Football that day. He told me to bet Watford at home against Spurs (the game referenced in the thread far earlier) to which I did and I won a swift $150. I used that money to buy a Troy Deeney kit and have been depressed as a fan of this club ever since. Perhaps on Saturday this club will reinvigorate my love for the team that won me over some 3 years ago on a foolish bet similar to the one I have going now. I’ve been a mixed bag of emotions this week thinking about hedging out of my bet knowing that we likely don’t come up with any points, but then again what if? I hope y’all like the story and if anyone can give me any false hope or reason to truly believe we can win this game it would be much appreciated!
Depends, if it is another 3-0 then that is definitely curtains. A battling and/or unlucky 2-1 defeat would still hurt though. I would take a 0-0 to be honest, just to stop the rot a bit.
Good luck but I would either cash out fully or take a percentage cash out if I was you. I am right in thinking hedging out and cashing out are the same thing arent I?
Sort of yea hedging would be taking a portion of the money I would win if Watford won and betting it on Burnley +0.5 (Burnley to win or draw) which then I could determine how much much I would win in each case. Cashing out would be taking a preset offer from the sportsbook and having the outcome of the game be non-factor but having the payout decrease substantially
Agree, losing would be great. The harder the hammering, the better. Let's see the COG spin after that.
Some good news from the latest injury update (although Etebo seems a bit further off than it seemed as he is doing “monitored work” rather than in full training). “Nicolas Nkoulou (hamstring) is progressing well having recently started running outside, however the Cameroonian defender is still a few weeks away from returning.” https://www.watfordfc.com/news/team-news-burnley-v-watford-1
Nice post. What I will say is, that sort of thinking only lines us with which Watford side turn up. If it's the meek, spinless bunch of cowards that rolled over and had their bellies ticked by Norwich we can expect a pasting. If we play anything close to how well we played against Chelsea - we might win. It's up to the mentality of the players - and if they care about the shirt they wear and the fans' they have let down since we beat Manure.
Well they're not going to out football us but if we're off the pace and not up for a battle we're gonna get stuffed. Just intrigued at how he's going to set us up. Can see us going 4-5-1 defending with the wide guys having to put in a shift to join any attacks. Pointless going long against them unless it's targeting their fullbacks.
