Ridiculous man! I've got 6 year olds in my Friday class with more maturity than Foster. Someone who has a shoe size higher than his IQ and a bank balance to match Croesus.
Got to the point where everything he does annoys me now. He was still taking an eternity over restarts when we were drawing 1-1. And when Toney hit the cracking volley that dropped wide, he stopped running after the ball to get it so that he could do his "oooh matron, that was close" look at Toney.
Quite - fans were complaining about time wasting from Brentford and we take as long over these things when not winning!
Agree Foster always takes too long over goal kicks, but Brentford were wasting excessive time from the kick off. I nearly left the game at halftime because it was annoying me so much. It has been bad enough watching our poor performances all season but watching Brentford take ages over every dead ball situation really wound me up. I watched the full match rerun this morning and timed the ball in play up to the goal. I timed 7m 50secs of actual football with the goal scored on 15mins! I understand game management in the last 10 minutes of a game when a team is protecting points, but Saturday was ridiculous. We were a side that had lost 9 consecutive home games, why would you need to suck all of the time and enjoyment out of a game when playing us. I really hope the championship has not also got this boring trend of "game management" Sorry for the rant but the constant time wasting sucks more enjoyment out of the game than our poor play this season.
They have a history of it this season it seems too. The coaches were telling them to do all sorts of things by the side of the pitch (thought you were only allowed one in the technical area) so they do have their dark arts I agree.
We spent the whole of a must win game either losing or drawing. And other than Kucka and Kamara who would run after the ball to try and get it back into play from throw ins the rest of our team just ambled around. It's so infuriating, there's no desire to get the game going again quickly or unsettle the opposition.
I think at one point yesterday we were attacking down Dennis' side and he ignored the play to help a Brentford player to his feet. I could be remembering that incorrectly though, I try to wipe all home performances from my memory within 24 hours. Anyway, things like that really piss me off. Kamara is great but he doesn't need to high five and hug every player he tackles and Foster doesn't need to have a laugh with the opposition players. We're far too nice, there's absolutely no bite apart from the odd cruncher from Louza or Kucka.
Exactly - this kind of thing has been highlighted enough here already, but from what I saw again there was a point on Saturday when Foster (to his meagre credit) went to restart the play quickly from a catch in our box by running to the edge and throwing the ball to one of several players heading up the pitch for a quick transition. A Brentford player physically ran into Foster, in our box, with the sole purpose of stopping him being able to make his throw. The ref blew up and awarded us a foul - and when that happened, the commentary team immediately expressed first their belief that the act was worthy of a yellow, as it was incredibly blatant and obviously designed solely to stop a promising counter with half their team still in our box, and then their surprise when one wasn't awarded. Meanwhile, not one of our players even seemed to notice - even Foster himself was totally unbothered, and not one of our players said a word, let alone campaigned to the ref for the obvious card to be shown, giving him the easiest possible time then and a great excuse for the rest of the game. We are almost anti-competitive. Naebody cares.
As I mentioned on another thread "game management" tactics are ruining the game and nothing is being done about it.
Yep happens time and time again. Remember the Arsenal winner when Rose had kicked the ball out. Any other team would have gone absolutely nuts at that. Our team just don’t care. This is the most unlikeable squad in my memory of this football club, devoid of spirit and will to win. I can’t stand them.
If i worked for a company where the management structure changed every 3-6 months, bringing in new ideas which were the exact opposite of the outgoing management (let’s go defensive, let’s go attack), worked with individuals who weren’t up to it or, even worse, couldn’t care less with owners that continued to make the same mistakes again and again and again….then I think I would stop caring after a while
This is why I love Ben Partridge-Brent! You actually couldn't describe anything more boring, the fact that he thinks this is a) interesting and b) is grinning like a maniac throughout is pure Fozzy. Starting to think he's a piece of performance art. Even his Gareth Keenan-esque mate can't mask how bored he is. https://youtube.com/shorts/aKRZQqa6u6k?feature=share
Foster will be leaving. Personally I'm sad to see him go but know the fans will give him a big send off on Sunday. Ben Foster will leave Watford at the end of the season | Watford Observer
I never get peoples attitudes to certain players. Fine to aim anger at those that have worn the shirt and genuinely looked like they didn’t care. But Foster has been a great servant to Watford football club over the years. Yes his YouTube ambitions were a tad tiresome and agree his advancing years meant that he made mistakes but, on the whole, he has saved us more times in a game than not I wish him all the best…same way I felt about Deeney
It’s the right time for him to leave but he goes having left a lot of fond memories. For me I didn’t like the YouTube thing, and thought it was unprofessional but the club should bear as much of the blame as Ben for letting him do it in the first place. On his day he has been the best keeper for this club since the days of Sir Alec, and I will always remember him as such. Prone to a gaffe, but then which keepers are not nowadays. All the best Ben.
Probably be a big Youtube video with the "lads" nad "Bazza" then.. No doubt has been an excellent keeper but time to move on I guess for both parties.
Hasn't been helped in any way with the defensive recruitment. Gomes was lucky enough to have Prodl, Britos and Cathcart at his prime. He is a right prat though. I think it is better that footballers remain footballers. Stay off social media - footballers are only interesting when they win games - not when they put ketchup on their food.
I don’t wholly disagree - the club should have stopped the elements that featured us at least, a long time ago. However, footballers get a large amount of personal responsibility and aren’t school kids. Foster should have read the room a long time ago without needing his employers to intervene. And there’s been enough negative comment from WFC fans that he can’t have not noticed it - and yet he has continued. He will go with my thanks and praise for his overall job. But he’s tainted what could have been Watford legend status in my opinion.
He's been excellent for us over the years, a few clangers thrown in but that goes for the majority of keepers. I wish him well but the YouTube nonsense has been a huge distraction in my opinion. He keeps going on about being one of the older heads, well I'm sorry but if the other players see what he gets away with then no wonder the changing room is an absolute clusterf*ck.
On the pitch he's been decent, and I'll always have fond memories or that 05/06 season with him in goal. Down to Gino and co for not getting anyone in who could actually offer some sort of competition for the top spot.
Ends his time here in a more bitter manner than Deeney (and of course he's not as legendary), but overall, he did a good job for us over two spells, when all is said and done, I'm sure he'll be welcome back (though you suspect not as a coach as that doesn't seem to be his path after retirement)
It's a shame it's gone this way, but I'm glad he's leaving A few years ago he was great for us, I think at one stage he was statistically one of the best keepers in the Premier League? Obviously at the age he is now he was going to drop off a bit, so I won't criticise him for that - although it would've been nice to have an alternative keeper this season, as I think he's not been up to par. But I wish I'd never known what he is like off the pitch. I really can't stand him. He's like an immature little man-child, a bit simple and loves himself too much. He'd have left a legacy as one of our most loved keepers, but unfortunately he's tarnished that.
Fortunately I have watched many goalkeepers play for Watford from Mike Walker to the current day. I would place Foster as technically second just behind Tony Coton. Your favourites tend to be slightly different from the ones you consider the best. But Foster is definitely one of the best.
Forever in the shadow of Chamberlain and Gomes - but the fact he did it with a smile (be that rightly or wrongly) I wish him a happy retirement. It would not surprise me one bit if he began a new past time as a GK Coach. He has the experience of several clubs, Man Utd, WBA and of course Watford. He has always seemed like the guy you would love to a beer with and I expect outside of football he is a very likeable person, his personality just shows that. Despite his on/off the field antics this season, I cannot deny he will be missed - a safe pair of gloves and some outstanding saves for us over the seasons, that one at Sheff Utd in Pearson's third game was outstanding. It was obvious being the oldest member of the squad this was his last game, and I would love to win on Sunday and keep a clean sheet as a happy memory of his time at the Vic, before five go past him at Stamford Bridge. All best Fozzie - keep smiling.
