    Called that one!

    It had to be him

A 6 with his last scoring shot in cricket and a wicket with his final ball

An hour and a half ago this result wasn't looking likely.

Had to be him didn't it?!
    Well played.
    Moral victory.
Pity he couldn't sort out the weather in blasted Manchester.

Great day - frustrating the weather denied us a series win but at least we kept the unbeaten home run in the Ashes intact.

Ahhh, Carey, at least you can also be famous for being Broad's last victim as well now!!

    Beautiful.

Brilliant win which certainly didn’t seem likely not long ago. Fitting that Broad got the last wicket. Enthralling series, but a case of what might have been for England. Great way to finish it.

    Had to be !

    Great win

Excellent comeback - probably very unlucky not to win overall.

    Outstanding cricket from both sides

Agreed. As always, a brilliant series! Very rare you get a poor series between these two in this country!! Always enthralling.

Gutted not to win the series 3-2 after the rain killed our hopes in Manchester when we were absolutely rampant, but a drawn series isn't too bad. At least we can say the convicts STILL haven't been able to win in England in 22 years and counting.....

Chris Woakes winning player of the series just shows what an impressive impact he has in 3 tests with bat and ball .

While it killed us at Manchester, the rain probably helped us win this match. The Australians were well on top yesterday when it arrived. That and the ball change!

Joe Root was player of the series. Woakes won the award nominated by the Aussies for best England player.

Yeah, was a bit confusing as Woakes picked up 3 gongs at once I think.

Obviously the biggest kicker was Old Trafford, and caught some tricky conditions at Edgbaston, but we did get a bit of luck with the conditions at Headingley and then at the Oval too! I guess a draw is a fitting result

I think Woakes won the Compton-Miller award which is really the definitive player of the series award. So you were right!

Just got back from The Oval via a lengthy session at The Prince Of Wales in Cleaver Square just up the road from Kennington.

What an incredible days cricket which was a
microcosmos of arguably the greatest Ashes series of modern era .

Very hard to tell when watching live bit judging from the amount of play and misses , the ball must have been swinging a fair amount.

Woakes deservedly wins player of the series , although Starc had some good stats. Even in his post match interview Woakes refused to talk about himself and deflected the pundits praise by talking about his team mates and the occasion. Such humble and underrated and brilliant player that deserves his plaudits today. .

What a day to be there !

And everyone seemed to be very sporting/gracious.
Yes think Root won some test player of the year award .

Think player of the match is selected by Sky and PoS by the media in general.

@BigRossLittleRoss Glad you had such a nice day. I’m an old fuddy duddy cricket traditionalist and I detest the Hundred. I can understand the thinking behind it, but ironically this England test team has proved the perfect recruitment tool for new and younger fans to discover what a great game cricket can be. It was a terrific series, crazily crammed into a short space of time just so the Hundred can begin today. I know I’m biased as a long-standing supporter of a county cricket side (and I now have to wait until September 3rd to see them again at full strength) but I can’t see how anybody can have an emotional attachment to any franchise involved in this totally unnecessary competition. Let’s hope the recently appointed Richard Gould will scrap it, or at least move its scheduling so the entire English cricket summer doesn’t revolve around it.

100% agree. I have no interest in “the hundred” and couldn’t name a team that is playing, nor do I know anyone who could.
