2014 this one - so not one that could be added to the list of Letby's charges. Evidence of medical blunders and malpractice at the unit causing a 'stable' baby to pass away?

Melanie and Patrick Robinson’s baby, Noah, died after a series of blunders at the Countess of Chester Hospital in 2014.

Noah was born by Caesarean section 12 weeks early on March 20, weighing just 1lb 7oz, after Mrs Robinson developed potentially fatal pre-eclampsia.

Despite his size he was given a good chance of survival.

But an inquest heard he died less than four days later after doctors mistakenly put a breathing tube into his gullet, which connects to the stomach. It should have gone into his trachea.

They also ignored five warning signs – from X-rays and other equipment, which they wrongly assumed were faulty. Mrs Robinson said there was only one senior doctor on duty when Noah began to deteriorate on March 22.

Recording a verdict of misadventure, coroner Nicholas Rheinberg told the inquest in Chester in February 2015: ‘There were very considerable signs [the tube was incorrectly positioned] and I find it surprising these signs were not realised.’

He said an assumption that equipment was faulty was ‘extraordinary’.

‘Shouldn’t the first assumption be the tube is in the wrong place, or that’s a strong possibility?’ he asked.

‘It’s like flying an aeroplane and seeing the oil gauge come on and you assume the gauge must be wrong, rather than the oil pressure is low.’

Mrs Robinson, who now has a daughter, was dismayed by the hospital’s level of care.

‘We put our trust in the doctors to look after Noah, but they didn’t do what they were supposed to,’ she said. ‘We feel terribly let down by the NHS.’

I was pissed yesterday and told someone in real life that I thought Letby could be innocent. They looked at me like I was a complete monster for even considering such an eventuality.

No matter what happened, she'll be behind bars for life. The general public will never ever set her free, mark my words.

The chronic lack of funding, wastage of money, short sighted PPI courtesy of the ******* Blair, lack of investment in preventative medicine, laws curtailing bad food, not investing in school sport, and this deliberate plan to hive off the profitable sectors of the NHS to private companies are all behind some of the worst statistics in a developed country for the treatment of cancer, various other diseases and poor neonatal outcomes including a shortage of midwives. No doubt thanks to the terrible salaries relatively and hours that most NHS staff have to work.

I'm still amazed that hospital design has barely moved on from the Victorian era. Why not a uniform modular design ? With units added or removed as appropriate to a final design ? Why not a circular design to facilitate internal transport, cleaning, heavy lifts, gardens, helipads on top and combined integrated datalinks ? And indeed power sources such as solar on the external walls and roof ?

You seem to be operating under the misguided notion that the governments of recent times have been competent. ;)

"The Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is calling for the Lucy Letby inquiry to cover statistical evidence used in the trial of the serial baby killer, saying it can be difficult “to draw conclusions from suspicious clusters of deaths” in hospitals.

"It is far from straightforward to draw conclusions from suspicious clusters of deaths in a hospital setting – it is a statistical challenge to distinguish event clusters that arise from criminal acts from those that arise coincidentally from other factors, even if the data in question was collected with rigour,” the authors say.

Prof David Spiegelhalter, of the University of Cambridge, welcomed the letter from the RSS. “Judging whether something is too surprising to be ‘just a coincidence’ should not be a matter for human intuition – expert statistical analysis is required,” he said.

Statistics were not used, though statistical insinuations were made: she was always there when incidents happened,” said Gill, adding that a meaningful statistical analysis was not carried out to explore whether or not there was a higher rate of incidents during Letby’s shifts than outside them, while controlling for relevant factors.

Gill also raised concerns about a lack of adherence to the rules put down by the lord chief justice for presentation of scientific evidence, adding that he supported a retrial.

    Good old statistics.

From this article, (not the Daily Mail Clive): https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...-trust-royal-college-of-nursing-b2395985.html

The comments come after it emerged that numerous staff raised concerns about the actions of Letby, 33, as she conducted a year-long killing spree at the Countess of Chester Hospital..

Meanwhile paediatrician Dr Stephen Brearey, who blew the whistle on Letby in 2015, told the Guardian the hospital had been “negligent” in its handling of the killings.

Warnings from top doctors on the neonatal unit were not acted on and the decision to call in the police was delayed by months.

If we are going to learn anything from this case we need to stop denying that racism is a serious issue in the NHS, this doctor would have been listened to if he was white and Lucy Letby would have been stopped sooner if she wasn't white

It comes as Dr Ravi Jayaram, one of the doctors who raised concerns over Letby’s behaviour, said that whistleblowers are “not only being ignored but then being portrayed as the problem”.

“Dr Ravi Jayram was not listened to or taken seriously.”

    They knew.

Pfft what does a University of Cambridge professor know compared to the vastly wiser and more knowledgeable wfcforumers?

See the chap above this post for further details. Who are you going to believe? Some stuffy Cambridge nerd who spends his days reading boring old books, or "Diamond", who spends his days chatting shyt on the internet.

    Think about it.

Was this Cambridge professor on the jury?
Did he give any evidence during the trial?

You guys are starting to sound like flat earthers, where people who don't agree with your conspiracy theories get shouted down. Think about it.

BTW, haven't you got any more articles from the Daily Mail to quote today? And you say I chat sh*te? :)

    This Ravi Jayram?

"Dr Ravi Jayaram Signed an Open Letter in Support of Disgraced Paediatrician & Professional Expert Witness Roy Meadow in 2005 and another in 2007?"

The one who says now modestly that he is "not a hero"?

Equally with regards to your posts. I hope you'll reconsider and continue to add your thoughts here.

Wrong. It seems to me that we doubters largely think she is probably guilty, but are open to the possibility that she is innocent. And I have to say, with each passing day the possibility is becoming more of a probability.

It is the lock her up and throw away the key-ers who have the closed mind and who cannot entertain the thought that she might be innocent!

(I am not singling you out intentionally, you just happened to be the poster above me in my previous post!)

I think a couple of loons ranting on a football forum are definitely likely to have a better handle on the case than 10 jurors and the result of a 10 month trial, it’s only a matter of time before she’s released.

There was a genuine software issue which affected half a dozen.
As soon as the news broke, the rest just helped themselves on the basis they believed they could never be prosecuted.

Interesting to hear on the private eye podcast that they've stopped TWO articles about the Letby case because of the forthcoming appeal hearing in April.

I don't suppose those articles were saying how sound the prosecution was.

I was speaking to a friend's wife the other week who's a midwife.

I presented my case as to why Lucy is clearly innocent.

She looked at me like I'd killed the children myself! Wouldn't even entertain the possibility of her innocence.

The public's mind is made up. She will never go free. Historians will judge this case as the biggest miscarriage of justice since that fat chap in the Green Mile got fried.

Mrs K was incandescent with rage when I revealed who had won the Wimbledon final depicted in Borg vs McEnroe. This was despite the fact that the match had taken place more than four decades before she watched the film and I thus assumed she already knew the outcome.
