If you will go and live in the centre of a continental mass then that's your own look out. Meanwhile in sensible parts of the World near oceans, -8 is well parky.

Quite right. You can’t sleep with the window closed, it’s not healthy.

Bit of ice swimming? I have a scandi friend who once asked me what the English word was for when you break the ice on a lake and have a dip. I said we didn’t need a word and the phrase ‘complete nutcase’ would probably cover it.

Sour faced lefties want you to be cold in the winter. That’s why the Daily Express carries so many warnings.

I'd tell the Daily Express that I blame Princess Diana for global warming; she was incessantly flying around the globe and smashing up the roads in Paris.

Dead right. Global warming . We need more CO2 and smoke in the atmosphere and we need it now. I'm going to start my car in the garden and just leave it running today. I'll check the forecast later to see if it's made any difference.

    What was the wfi like?

We had two weeks in Pembrokeshire many years ago. Rained 13 days out of 14. On a clear day you could see your mum.

Alice Goodridge, from Newtonmore, uses a sledgehammer to create a channel in the ice to swim in Loch Insh, in the Cairngorms National Park.

    You’re in Alberta, right?

At work the other day I was speaking to a bloke at one of our refineries in Edmonton, and he said the feels like temperature outside was -48.

    Incomprehensible levels of cold.

That’s right, I’m Edmonton and that feels like -48 the other night wasn’t much fun.

It's really hard to appreciate what it's like until you've experienced it. Feeling the hairs in your nose freeze when you breathe is one heck of an experience!

During the polar vortex a few of years ago, my (then) employer was based in a building that had the fire alarms go off unexpectedly. It was a false alarm, but we had to go and stand outside anyway.

We had to stand outside for 30 minutes after evacuating in a rush; it could have been a real fire so people just grabbed what they could and left. Unfortunately this left many (including myself) underdressed for the conditions, and even dressed you weren't supposed to be out there standing in it.

When we finally got back inside, my eyes were streaming from the temperature change for over two hours; I could barely see anything. It took me three days to feel normal instead of feeling chilled.

Weather forecasts in our area often have warnings akin to "don't go outside, you're risking death" on them, which is a bit of a shock the first time you see it!
