Saw this amazing bit of delusion in response to the banner:

    IMG_20230416_105347.jpg

Generous Gino gallantly bailing out the organisation he owns and runs.

My favourite moment that illustrated the haphazard nature of our play yesterday was when Sarr had, as you say, drifted into the middle and then then played a diagonal pass out to the right for an overlapping team mate - who was none other than Bacuna!

******* ? He's one himself. Obviously basic economics is not one of his strongpoints or coherent thinking. Perhaps he was a fellow student with Gino at HBS.

He's still a kid. Ideally we should have been able to bleed him in and others into the squad as most well run clubs do.

What a bell end. Was it Bendover ? We should be in the National League South by rights you know. And Gino will soon be beatified by the Pope.

Christ, you’re right. I spotted one tweeting replies and slamming it on another thread about it last night whose account was otherwise Tory politics central. Assumed this would be the same same Tory boy but nope, seems there’s more of them.

Well aren’t the Tories in power in Watford and probably a few in the Upper GT ?!

These days I tend to post more in Politics 2.0 than on any of the football topics and I am entering the "Pozzo Out" debate with a degree of trepidation.

I have supported WFC for 54 years, during that time GT, without doubt, possessed more football wisdom than anyone else associated with the management of the club. He stated that the long term goal of WFC should be to maintain itself amongst the top 30 clubs in the English football pyramid. So far the the Pozzo's have achieved this in all but one season (2013/14 - 13th - 60 points). Until they fail to do this on a regular basis, I think attempts to get them out are short-sighted.

We are not Manchester United with a queue of wealthy bidders offering huge sums, so unless we have a potential buyer with around a quarter of a billion pounds (of ready cash) waiting in the wings, I think we need to be careful what we wish for.

The Pozzo/Duxbury era has seen good decisions and poor decisions and the club is broadly in the same relative position as it was when they took over in 2012. If the Pozzo's decide to leave we are more likely to end up with owners in the Bonsor / Petchey / Simpson / Bassini mould than we are with another SEJ. I have seen us play enough seasons in Div 3/ Div 4 and I don't want us back there any time soon.

Anyway, just purchased Hull tickets and looking forward to seeing us get into the top 30 again.

The main thing whoever the owner is will be to get some stability and build a squad that can perform well regularly, keep fit and be United rather than a scattergun mish mash of players.

And obviously the club need to be better at communicating with fans and not alienating them .

Was totally unmoved by the whole match. Pleased for Andrews and hope he gets more opportunities.
What I can't wait for though is to see the back of Sarr, Louza and Kamara. Absolute wasters.
I would be tempted just to throw in a few youngsters just to give them more experience but that won't happen.

Not going to happen untill it's mathematically impossible for us to make the top six. While there is a chance (all be it barely one). Gino will be expecting Wilder to put out the strongest sides he can. Expect more of the same on Wednesday night where another win will be insisted, but knowing our record of recording back to back wins this season won't happen. Mighht not be till Stoke on the final day that we see a total refresh of the lineup, by that point, it could be all over.

The idea were in roughly the same position as when they arrived only really works if you limit yourself to considering league position, on field performances etc. From a financial perspective we’re many times worse off.

Being 12th really isn't the biggest problem, after all, we've finished worse under the Pozzos, but the difference is back then we were on an upward curve, right now we face a real battle not to fall further, and that's putting it mildly

As does anybody else in the entire team. It happened any number of times yesterday. Louza does lots of it, generally combining it with turning back towards his own goal. The squad slow their attacks down seemingly as a habit; after all they've been doing it for years. I'm guessing here, but I think Wilder is trying to get the attacks to speed up by getting attackers to make early runs forward, but the midfielders just don't look up and spot the early ball. This happened a number of times yesterday.
Football works on the general principles that speed favours attacks and slowness favours defending. It is a major reason why we score so few goals.

Basically on the same topic: Pedro was adjudged by some to be lucky with his goal. Maybe, but he broke with tradition and hit his shot early. For the nth time I refer back to Bobby Charlton's maxim about shooting: Hit it early, on target and hard - and let the goalkeeper worry about it. And nobody on this forum knows more about scoring than Charlton.
I have to say Bristol's keeper looked a bit of a weak link, but you can make your own luck in this game.

The defender right in front of him defected Pedro’s shot, to be fair to the keeper.

GT (and Elton) also recognised the importance of running the club responsibly.

Yes, Elton pumped in a lot of money, especially at the beginning and again once the club reached Div 2, but the goal was always to make the club sustainable and self-sufficient. And to live within its means.

The finances are starting to look concerning, especially as the only real get-out is to pull the lever on the Premier League jackpot again or find a buyer or sell off the assets.

So, the price for landing up back where we started 11 years ago is that club is £124 million in debt. (Figures up to June 30, 2022). When the Pozzos took over, the debt was £10m.

I've heard they were being dragged off to the Ticket Office to be subjected to electric shot treatment until they agreed to renew their STs.

Harry Kane scores many of his goals by shooting early - all the best strikers do.

I get the point about the top 30 thing, which will chime with anyone who has supported Watford for as long as you and I have, but surely you have to admit that the team has horribly under-achieved this season as a result of awful recruitment and no continuity of team management.

I think all but the most ardent of anti-Pozzo people among us will say that if we end up in the same position as we were in 2012, it would all have been worth it, but the problem with our financial situation is that looks unlikely at the moment

The way to get away with these banners is to be smart about it. Create them with “Gino Out of this world” or “Gino Outstanding” and have it folded at the appropriate place. When the stewards approach just fully unfold then you will never be ejected.
