Some advice needed on buying concert tickets on the secondary market in the UK. I am resigned to paying way over the face value, but I am unfamiliar with the uk sites. In Ireland, we have a site called Done Deal, and it is great for people to swap or sell tickets, many at face value. If anyone has stories, good or bad on this issue, I would really appreciate it. I have a great fear of being conned, and arriving in London with unusable tickets.

The 2nd song was their last single in 1997 before they split as BritPop fell out of favour. Good song but only reached #39.
Louise was dating the guitarist at the time of the first video and the drummer by the time of the last video, who she's now married to with kids etc...
They reformed in 2017 and released an album of new material in 2019.

 

Went to see Lana del Rey last night in Hyde Park. Absolutely brilliant.

Turned up 20 minutes late, but did finish the set this time.

 

If anyone likes a bit of 80s inspired power rock; Gunship have released a new single called Monster in Paradise.

 

Oh, this is EXCELLENT.

I really like their debut, haven’t actually checked anything else by them out but will have a listen while I’m working this week.

 

Yes, their debut album is great! Dark All Day is also definitely worth a listen, some superb tunes on there.

 

I've been finding a lot of comfort in music lately; I think of it as a bit of a window into the soul sometimes. When working from home I'll nearly always have music on unless I fancy a podcast. Here's a flavour of what I'm into at the moment - a bit of a wide variety.

Blue October - The Girl Who Stole My Heart:

This whole album, 'Spinning The Truth Around Pt1' is very good but this is the song I'm listening to the most at the moment. I think Justin's voice is really interesting and I like the really experimental feel to this album. Some of the songs are very atmospheric.

James - Waltzing Along:

I was into James in a big way a few years ago but went off of them. Came across a random video of them performing live on YouTube earlier this year and I've got right back into them. Going to see them in a few weeks time and really looking forward to it. They've got a lot of excellent songs but this is arguably my favourite of theirs.

Hundred Reasons - Waveform:

Hundred Reasons released a new album earlier this year following an extended hiatus, and for me, it's right up there with the debut as their best work. I wasn't able to get tickets to the tour but hoping they'll come back round again soon. This is my favourite from the album.

Mike Edel - Still Thinking About You:

This was actually recommended to me by Spotify's 'DJ' feature (give it a go, I've found some decent stuff by using it) and I think this is a really good song - the guitar work is stellar and again, I like Mike's voice.

Captain - High Beams:

Captain are a band that I always think should've had more success. Their first album 'Welcome to Hazelville' is superb, and I remember seeing them supporting Keane at Ally Pally back in the day thinking they would have a good career. One of the original line up sadly passed away which put a stop to that and they stopped performing for a while, releasing 'Songs For Irini' a few years ago as a tribute. This is the lead single off of their as yet untitled forth album, which will be out at the start of next year. They successfully raised enough money to fund the recording/musical arrangements through a Kickstarter campaign. I pledged, and have a vinyl of the new album coming my way as well as a ticket to an intimate gig in Kings Cross next February.

The Network - Reto:


The Network are a totally random, bat-sh1t crazy side project from Green Day. This song came on whilst I was shuffling my library earlier today and I ended up listening to the entire album in full for the first time in year. I have no idea what the 'angle' of this band, but it's good, catchy and easy to listen to.

Such sad news tonight about Sinead O’Connor.

I appreciate she wasn’t everybody’s cup of tea and could be overtly controversial, even offensive.

However, I thought her to be a wonderful singer and a lovely free-spirited person. And NC2U remains one of the finest cover versions ever in my opinion. A beautiful piece of music.

Sorry HH, meant to reply to this sooner. I saw them support Courteeners a few years ago, and really enjoyed it - although a good few beers had been lost by then! - looking forward to seeing them in a few weeks. It’s a full band show, but I’ve listened to Be Opened By The Wonderful and think it’s very good. Hoping our ‘summer’ livens up a bit by then given its an outdoor show…

 

I just stumbled upon The Beaches thanks to Spotify’s ‘DJ’ function.

‘Blame Brett’ is the catchiest of their stuff I’ve listened to so far, and SEJ apparently shouted them out when doing the post Glasto rounds so that’s good enough for me.

 

This made me laugh. Tracking down and listening to a few choooonz from my yoof while working and came across this video of MTH. Have you ever seen a less interested audience ? Most aren't even looking in the direction of the band ! Maybe because the kids had gone to a show called "Disco" and having to listen to MtH !

 

That's a great, great song. On regular rotation at Keighley Towers.

Yes they put out some great songs. You know the story that they were about to pack it all in and disband after years without recognition but Bowie loved them and so gave them "All the young dudes" and as they say, the rest is history ??
There are some good youtube collections "UK chart hits of 1973" which include about 200 or so songs from that year in full. Not these irritating 20 second edits which play 60 songs in about 20 mins. Mostly **** of course but unearths loads of songs you've probably not heard since the year in question. This was the 157th song from the 1973 playlist ! Good background while working. Finish 1973 go on to 1974 etc. You need an adblocker though or you get an advert at the start of pretty much every song ! Ocassionally it will jump to a new playlist aftre playing a song and you need to go back to get back into the 1973 playlist etc.

I think there's one for pretty much every year. I was 9 and '73 was actually the year before i started listening to "pop music". Until then my favourite music was Beethoven's unfinished symphony. Genuinely. My parents were very proud and frequently brough the subject up when we were with friends. Not so much when I reached the age of 10, discovered TOTP and swapped Beethoven for Suzi Quatro.

Schubert certainly did. Died at the age of 31.

I've gone the other way, so to speak. Rarely listen to anything other than classical music now, with a smattering of jazz. To the extent that I knew Schubert's age at death without needing to look it up!
