Oh dear. You have some odd reflexes.

Was he Gordon Brown’s personal friend? The relationship with Thatcher was extraordinarily close.

That was his skill, the ability to ingratiate himself with the powerful. The positions and friendships he had, the BBC, NHS, Charities, Government, propped him up and protected him.

Na, it's not the same. The Sun comes out punching or just ignores its past. The BBC does the complete opposite in a massive act of self-harm that I don't think any other media organisation would engage in.

Not allowed to m8. That’s why they can only show TOTP with Noel Edmonds.

I don't think you're allowed to name him m8. It's the law innit.
I think you have to say "you know, the DJ that we all know it is, with white hair, often held a cigar", but for christs sake, don't use his name.

....and why you never hear any of the occasionally quite decent songs by that 1970's pop star, I'm not stupid so I'm saying his name, but it rhymed with Barry Pitta.

I still recall the TOTP episode with the underwater guitar solo in a Madness video (? 'It must be love') where Savile ensured that the continuity announcer after the programme warned people not to try that at home.

    Rather ironic, really.

On a fairly recent 'away day' we discovered a pub in Huddersfield with a jukebox that still has 'Do you wanna be in my gang' by Gary Glitter among its choices. How we chuckled when we stuffed the machine full of enough coins to play it for about 2 hours

It was a fun song.....though for legal reasons I'm not prepared to confirm or deny whether that is the person I was referring to.

I think if we do ever find out itll be a younger presenter not one of the grandees.
Just because they are talking about radio and TV but also the technology they have used like paypal and tinder.
Guy in his 30s would be my guess

Somebody on LBC almost let the cat out of the bag by telling everyone what the Unnamed Presenter presented. Basically, dotting the i's and crossing the t's of the name.

I thought the ‘illegality’ aspect centres on the fact the initial photos & payments were made when the other person was only 17?

The BBC turns the spotlight onto The Sun, its unwillingness to name the presenter, its changing story which now has dropped the hook about potential U18 images, its failure to contact the first alleged victim at all and its unwillingness for its editor or journalists to be interviewed about its claims.

They must have cheered like when The Belgrano was going down at The Sun when the other allegations appeared.

Yes, that, I assume, is what the police are investigating. If they find there is sufficient evidence to arrest and charge the presenter then I think his right to privacy comes to an end.

However, if the accuser(s) were all of legal age for what went on then it's none of our business imho. Obviously the BBC might still take action based on their own code of conduct but that should be, imho, an internal HR matter.

So it probably comes down to a foolish (lonely) old man engaging with young men on a dating app in his own spare time.

What is the scandal then? Is it the fact he's a lot older than those adults that are freely engaging with him? Is it because he's homosexual?

Should he be publicly shamed and have his life ruined because of it? He almost certainly will now but the whole thing sits very uncomfortably with me.

I'm looking forward to joining the 60-65 category at my local park run. The buggers are still fast though.

I imagine part of the scandal would center around the “double life” aspect of his activities, in a similar way to when MPs are “outed” for their extramarital affairs. But, yes, the “hook” initially seemed to be the fact that the youth involved was 17 when pictures were first requested.

That certainly is something that is relevant to an MP or any political candidate/representative. They are putting themselves forward to represent their constituents and, as such, should be honest about who they are and what they believe.

I don't think the same standards should apply to someone who reads an autocue for a living and has little, if any, editorial control over news content.

Unsurprisingly it's Huw Edwards. Named by his wife according to the BBC live text.

Apparently he's "suffering from serious mental health issues" and is receiving "in-patient hospital care". Meanwhile the Met have confirmed there's no evidence of criminal offences.

Hope the Sun are pleased with themselves.
