Apologies for the rudeness, just majorly irritates me that fans are so quick to slate and bin off other CB’s, when Ekong is literally a walking disaster every single game. He is such a liability at the back. Even in the championship mistakes were made every game by him and that’s not an exaggeration. He got away with it because of the championship being filled with rubbish. Nearly everyone last summer pointed out if Ekong started in the Prem we wouldn’t get away with it, and we didn’t. So many errors on and off the ball that cost us. It will be no different this season if he stays and starts. We will agree to disagree and I won’t continue the convo any further. Again, apologies for the rudeness earlier.
It irritates me that Kabasele has been here for six years and still makes the most basic errors. Hopefully he is moved on this summer if we want to limit the number of foreigners in the squad. He simply does not deserve a place in the squad after years of terrible performances and unavailability due to injury.
Watford v Cambridge United - Saturday July 2, 1pm (Watford FC training ground, behind closed doors) Watford v Qatar - Sunday July 10, 1pm (Austria) Watford v Bolton Wanderers - Tuesday July 12, 3pm (Watford FC training ground, behind closed doors) Watford v Wycombe Wanderers - Saturday July 16, 1pm (Watford FC training ground, behind closed doors) Watford v Southampton - Saturday July 23, 3pm (Grosvenor Vale, Wealdstone FC) Truly the family club.
Why so much behind closed doors friendlies? Are they ashamed to show the state of the squad pre season? They would surely bring in a little money for the club as a few fans' would attend.
From the official site; "No friendlies will be played at Vicarage Road due to pitch care priorities after infrastructure relating to the Sir Elton John concerts has been removed from the stadium" https://www.watfordfc.com/news/pre-season-202223-first-team-fixtures-confirmed
No friendlies at the Vic as the pitch needs time to recover after Elton John - don't think his music is that bad.
None were going to be at the Vic for obvious reasons . Basically the Southampton game is our home friendly . Shame there aren’t any away ones .
I hope we can have a couple of training sessions at the Vic just so the players can get use to the pitch etc.
I didn’t look at those stats in detail, mainly who had more greens and reds. My conclusion was, they’re both a bit sh*t.
I didn’t want him in the squad last season but I actually thought he was one of the better defenders when he had a run of games late on. Mind you, given how the team finished the season and how many goals it conceded that’s damning with faint praise. And I didn’t see the last seven games which were part of a period in which we picked up one measly point out of a possible 27 in probably the easiest run of games we’ll ever get in the Prem, so I imagine he ended up being as bad as the rest!
Why can't we play Cambridge, Wycombe etc. at their grounds? Everyone else seems to be able to play teams from divisions below at their grounds but no, we have to play behind closed doors.
Not seen it mentioned by the club but a Watford XI play at friendly at Kings Langley on Tuesday 2nd August. Not sure that counts as pre-season though.
Probably the Under 18s and Under 23s. Who will we upset this year by pulling out late or sending a weaker team than usual?
FIFA. Winner gets to host the World Cup later this year apparently. It’s the twist no one saw coming.
At least we're playing Qatar in Austria, as opposed to one of their stadiums which thousands died in building.
Laughable, and predictably spineless from them. No doubt we’ll get a breakdown of the financials of this friendly on the next pod, and how although it’s morally questionable, Scott and Gino do business properly, so there’s nothing to be concerned about. They wouldn’t have done the deal if it wasn’t with our best interests at heart. I mean, if England can play a whole World Cup there, why can’t little old family club Watford get paid too? We might even be able to sign another player from Mogi with the cash!
