Would they really pay us just to play a friendly in Austria? More likely they were after a team to play and we agreed for whatever reason.
I can’t think of any reason you’d agreed to play them, given the obvious bad PR that comes with it, unless there is money changing hands. I’m sorry, I can’t believe that we agreed to play them for nothing, just because we both needed a game. The club could have easily found somebody else to play if it was simply about needing a run out.
There’s stats out there that show the unavailability of Kabasele has coincided with terrible team performances. Make of that what you will.
16/17: 7 starts - 2 draws, 5 losses. 0.28 PPG Non starts: 31 times — 11 wins, 15 losses, 5 draws. 1.22 PPG 17/18: 27 starts — 6 wins, 14 losses, 7 draws. 1.08 PPG Non starts: 11 times — 5 wins, 5 losses, 1 draw. 1.45 PPG 18/19: 19 starts — 6 wins, 9 losses, 4 draws. 1.15 PPG Non starts: 19 times — 8 wins, 7 losses, 4 draws. 1.47 PPG 19/20: 26 starts — 7 wins, 10 losses, 9 draws. 1.15 PPG Non starts: 12 times — 1 win, 10 losses, 1 draw. 0.33 PPG 20/21: 19 starts — 9 wins, 6 losses, 4 draws. 1.63 PPG Non starts: 27 times — 18 wins, 3 losses, 6 draws. 2.22 PPG 21/22: 12 starts — 2 wins, 9 losses, 1 draw. 0.58 PPG Non starts: 26 times— 4 wins, 18 losses, 4 draws. 0.61 PPG Only time we’ve had a higher points per game with Kabasele in the side was the season we got relegated in 19/20
Just stoking the fire. Not really that into stats personally. Much prefer hearsay. Sure I heard it somewhere
But LOL at anyone who thinks WTE is a better player. Don’t need stats to know that he’s awful and Kaba’s better
Really don't think we're at a point where the term 'better' is appropriate to be used in the discussion, because that attaches too positive a fundamental grounding to either of them. But I also don't think anyone is actually making the argument that WTE is better - purely that Kabasele is essentially useless, and has been for the large majority of his time here.
I have no problem with you holding that opinion. Having opinions is what being a fan is about. But I disagree and don’t think Kabasele is useless. I think he’s a much better player than people give him credit for. But I accept that he’s not shown enough of his potential.
Good to see Karama is now back. The club have posted a video of him turning up to training. https://twitter.com/i/status/1541353141769080832
Qatar. Oh dear. That is so tone deaf. And makes us look bad. Just sends out all sorts of bad signals. There is absolutely no footballing reason to purposely pick to play them. There presumably is some other hidden reason. It would be good if we could have some friendlies against lower league opposition at their grounds and a few local ones thrown in.
Not a problem anymore. The game has been cancelled. Watford cancel Qatar friendly after opposition from fans' groups | Watford Observer
"The game was never finalised" - oh riiiiight mate Publishing things is pretty final in most walks of life.
Another PR clusterf**k that could have been avoided had the club listened to supporters in the first place and not tried to see if they could get away with it first. Now they've pissed people off, caused further divisions in the fanbase, presumably lost a fair bit of money and disrupted an already truncated pre-season. More great work by the stability!
Can't see the money angle to be honest. Glorified training ground game at camp in Austria doesn't exactly seem like a money-spinner, even if Qatar are paying to play.
The snowflakes now want Watford's game with Cambridge Utd cancelled because of the Cambridge Analytica data scandal.
You can joke all you like, but I don't want us going anywhere near Cambridge. The boat race result from this year still rankles.
Good on the Women of Watford and Proud Hornets groups actually speaking up about it and publicly calling the club out. I think people can draw their own conclusions on which of the 'fan representatives' are bit more free thinking and which are the yes men. Especially those which have been vocal about the Qatar World Cup, but not this.
We’re expected the believe that a club which takes a month to announce a new signing published a list of unconfirmed friendlies? At least certain commissars can now publicly comment on this and make vague allusions to solidarity ‘behind the scenes’…
Glad we wont be playing them for the right reasons and the fact they are such a poor side anyway. Might as well have arranged a fixture against the local pub side.
If we're going to the same place as last time the local club would appear to be SC Going who play in the '1. Klasse Ost', one of the 7th tier leagues in Austria. Sounds tinpot enough. The local "pub" appears to be Gasthof Stanglwirt, but don't think they have a proper team. Albeit they do seem to host the occasional coaching session for kids, so maybe that's one to give our U 23s a runout for. https://www.stanglwirt.com/de/ueber-uns/soziales-engagement/kinder-fussballtage-beim-stanglwirt.html
