The players are always partly to blame for a managers sacking it's just it's the manager who always loses his job. I don't believe are players are any less focused than many other teams, we're just not very good.

Well, it's official. I have to say I am sad to see him go - he has a lovely personality and I hope he can retire now from the game and enjoy his free time. We had some good results, but overall it does seem it's another case of "next cab of the rank". Good luck to you Uncle Claudio, sorry it never worked out. Blame the owners/players.

There’s certainly not much team spirit I doubt. Yeah it raises up every now and then but in the main, these stories of cliques, toxic attitudes etc don’t just come from nowhere. They aren’t imagined. So I think when the messaging is confused as I imagine it often is given the turnover of coaches and players etc, then I think it’s quite obvious to say we are probably less focussed than most teams.

We need to get a manager and give the guy 3 years unless he is an unmitigated disaster. We can then sign players who suit his style of play. On the flip side I suspect the rumours from the training ground are from those not playing. No matter who you get in, there will be players who don't like certain things about his style. I bet there a lots of players who didn't like Sir Alex Ferguson, in fact Beckham and Staam had falling outs with him and left soon after. Give the manager the power to run the team.

I mean, technically, it’s still not official.

Giving him 6 months or 3yrs makes little difference if the structure above him doesn’t change.

The DoF needs to be close to the coach, not the chairman. We haven’t realised that yet. And the recruitment is scattergun at best, ignorant at worst. No coach would even want to stay for 3yrs unless that changes.

Utterly bizarre that it's still not been announced by us.

Just a strange, strange football club these days.

Potential coaches would want at least a 2yr contract with the club knowing they won't make it to the end and get a nice little pay off for six months' work. I'd apply if I had my badges!

Watford Football Club confirms the departure of Head Coach Claudio Ranieri. The Hornets' Board recognises Claudio as a man of great integrity and honour, who will always be rejected here at Vicarage Road for his efforts in leading the team with dignity.

    From the Beeb.

Watford have sacked manager Claudio Ranieri after 14 games and less than four months in charge.

The Italian, 70, was appointed on 4 October but managed only seven points from 13 Premier League games.

Last Friday's 3-0 home defeat to Norwich saw Watford drop into the bottom three and prompted the club's owners to take action.

It means Watford are looking for their 15th manager since the Pozzo family took over in 2012.

Ranieri, who famously won the Premier League title with Leicester in 2015-16, was given a two-year contract after replacing Xisco Munoz.

However, Watford managed just two wins under the former Sampdoria boss and he departs with the club 19th in the table, two points from safety.

They have lost seven of their previous eight Premier League games and next travel to relegation rivals Burnley on Saturday 5 February in a huge game at the bottom of the table.

The Hornets have lost 11 of their 14 games under Ranieri, 10 in the Premier League and a 4-1 loss to Leicester in the third round of the FA Cup.

It is the eight managerial change in the league this season following the departures of Xisco, Steve Bruce (Newcastle), Nuno Espirito Santo (Spurs), Daniel Farke (Norwich), Aston Villa (Dean

Smith), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Manchester United) and Rafael Benitez (Everton).

I am sad to see Ranieri go he is a lovely man and has achieved great things in football but sadly its probably time for Claudio to retire now. I pray that the owners bring in a relatively young manager and give them time to build something. The aim and objective should be to be in the Premier League in the 23-24 season whether that's promotion or staying up this season. This is probably wishful thinking and we will likely go round and round doing the same thing again.

    So. Farewell then Claudio,
    You had booked a table

reward players for keeping a clean
    sheet.

    Money well saved.

    It is also your
    severance package.

I see what they’ve done here - spend the next week looking for a new Head Coach. That’s means no time to scout for a new quality centre-back.

    Clever Gino.

I think literally everyone concluding that some time ago, didn't they? I alluded to it even in the post you are quoting!

It's just that we can't (or apparently won't) change the players in the same way, and there's the age old issue that getting the players to play for you and above their capacities, however you may achieve that, is rather a vital component of the head coach position at Watford, and very sadly he has become another one who just didn't manage it.

Don't get me wrong - it appears to be a Herculean task. But if we aren't asking for it, at least, then we literally have to give up.

However you look at the finer details of it, in the broadest possible sense and objectively, having three managers in a season for each of our most recent two Premier League seasons is fuccking madness. I don't think anyone here would disagree on that.

That's such a somber expression. He looks like a broken man almost. It must of been painful watching Cathcart, WTE and Bachmann making mistake after mistake, game after game. They are not solely to blame of course. It will take an miracle worker to get a tune out of this lot now, and who wants to take that chance?

We are an absolute embarrassment of a club. The laughing stock of the Premier League and the sooner we get relegated the better. Nothing will change whilst Gino and Scott are still in the hierarchy- last time we went down they came out with a bunch of utter bollox about "change" and how they know they've made mistakes and how those won't be made again. Fast forward two years and the exact same issues are occurring.

Ranieri is not blameless, with some bizarre tactical decisions, but the majority of the blame lies with those above him. Shambles of a football club
