As I said in the other thread, how is it a good result England? If Slovenia had won today they would have been through and USA would have been all but out, and assuming we win handsomely today we would have been pretty much definitely through as well, leaving our fate in our own hands as to whether we win the group or not in the final game. With todays result it now means both USA and Slovenia have everything to play for and a slight f**k up from us today or in the last game could end with us missing out all together.
True but we need to win the group to get a decent draw. At least it's iin our hands rather than relying on others results.
Terrible first half, terrible officiating, brilliant 2nd half comeback. Donovan's goal was a thing of beauty... Anyway, if you don't let Slovenia go up on you like that, the reffing doesn't matter. Someday, USA will have to get a clean sheet in a World Cup game. Hopefully that will be Wednesday.
I haven't seen an African rob an American like that since I gave that man from Nigeria my bank account information.
Next up: Algeria. Commodore Stephen Decatur's task force lobbing Freedom Cannonballs into Algiers. WIN or DIE
The Barbary Wars The Barbary Wars (or Tripolitan Wars) were two wars between the United States of America and the Barbary States of North Africa in the early 19th century. At issue was the Barbary pirates' demand of tribute from American merchant vessels in the Mediterranean Sea. American naval power attacked the pirate cities and extracted concessions of fair passage from their rulers. The Barbary Wars are sometimes called "America's Forgotten War", although they share that name with several other conflicts. The wars largely passed out of popular memory within a generation. The punitive actions against the Barbary States were launched by the administrations of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. When they proved successful, partisans of the Democratic-Republicans contrasted their administrations' refusal to buy off the pirates with the failure of the preceding federalist administration to live up to the rhetorical flight, "Millions for defense, but not one cent for tribute," attributed to Charles C. Pinckney in the course of the XYZ Affair, though actually said by Sen. Robert Goodloe Harper. One American slave reported that the Algerians had enslaved 130 American seamen in the Mediterranean and Atlantic from 1785 to 1793. Isolated cases of piracy occurred on the Rif coast of Morocco even at the beginning of the 20th century, but the pirate communities which could only live by plunder vanished with the French conquest of Algiers in 1830. This new military presence helped to stiffen American resolve to resist the continuation of tribute payments, leading to the two Barbary Wars along the North African coast: the First Barbary War from 1801 to 1805 and the Second Barbary War in 1815. It was not until 1815 that naval victories under the command of Commodore Stephan Decatur, Jr. ended tribute payments by the U.S., although some European nations continued annual payments until the 1830s. Commodore Stephan Decatur, Jr. - Slayer of Algerian terrorists The United States Marine Corps actions in these wars led to the line "to the shores of Tripoli" in the opening of the Marine Hymn. Because of the hazards of boarding hostile ships, Marines' uniforms had a leather high collar to protect against cutlass slashes. This led to the nickname Leatherneck for U.S. Marines.
"The referee who disallowed a potential game-winning goal for the United States will face an expedited performance review from FIFA and is likely to be excluded from the rest of the World Cup, according to a FIFA source.' http://g.sports.yahoo.com/soccer/wo...nia-u-s-referee--fbintl_ro-referee061810.html
Nice one Fitz!!! By the way, your boys were Robbed, thankfully for us :-[ Had your boys won, we would be even deeper in the brown stuff than we already are At least your guys showed some passion and looked like they wanted it. Our lot just looked like they did not want to be there!!! They showed no passion or fight whatsoever, in fact they were a disgrace to the shirt!!! That's what hurts most of all their performance not the result. OK the Germans and the Spanish lost, but at least they went down fighting, and were perhaps unlucky, but our lot were just pathetic!!!

Say, have you lads seen the final standings of Group C? Hey look who is on top... Whaddya know? Apparently Donovan knocked England out of the World Cup today. I believe the legs pointing towards the heavens would be one Jay DeMerit. The following comes from ussoccer.com:
Well done USA - this is your big chance. One of USA, Uruguay, South Korea and Ghana WILL be in the semi finals. Won't ever get better odds and chance to win a medal. My money's on Uruguay though. But (to quote Rob Sneider in any Adam Sandler movie) you can do it.
