Realistically, who would you try and bring in over the summer? I'd bring in (assuming we're still in the Championship): Leroy Lita Jermaine Beckford Brian Howard Calum Davenport Tyrone Mears New Goalkeeper - Can't think of anyone atm Players out: Poom, Jackson, Kabba, Hoskins, Rinaldi.
Not all of these, but i would like to see a few move in Lita Davenport A Goalkeeper? Matty Fryatt Freddy Eastwood Billy Jones Darren Huckerby (would be free) Lee Croft Danny Haynes Maybe a few players aswell from teams that are relegated from the prem Bocanegra Konchesky Kamara Adam Johnson! (I realise theres a few silly suggestions there, but, you know...) OUT Priskin Stewart Rinaldi (if he aint gonna play, then its wasted cash on wages) Francis Poom Jackson Also would like to see some extra staff brought in, some expiranced coaches to help Aidy & maybe some backroom
I've got a feeling that the Davenport move is pretty much sewn up. Remember him visiting the training ground a week or so after his injury? There could be more to that then we know. I also reckon we'll need 1, possibly 2 strikers. I reckon we need a pacey frontman, perhaps David Nugent from Pompey if he becomes available? He'd be well worth 3-4 Million IMO. Also we could do with another striker as back-up although I'm not sure who. Midfield wise we'll be relatively comfortable when Francis/Williams return from injury, but I reckon we need another LM. I'd love to see Johnson back here but again I'm not sure if this will happen. Perhaps a new goalkeeper but that's not too important considering we have 3 very good goalkeepers in Lee, Poom and Loach.
Possibly a goalkeeper Right back on loan, Mears is a good shout Center back, someone like Leon Cort Attacking midfielder, Graham Kavanagh would be a good signing although would like some younger like Danny Haynes Left winger, Johnson would be a long shot so just somebody with a good left foot Striker, Sylvan Ebanks blake is someone who ive admired and think is a very good player but if he is too expensive then maybe Kevin Lisbie Would like to see the back of Henderson,Jackson,Rinaldi(if not going to get a game) and possibly Stewart.
Think that the possible takeover is obviously going to play a huge part in what finances are available in the summer ... and what manager is in charge as I cant see people giving Aidy the cheque book on his recent track record. To Leave Poom (Free), Jackson (Free), Doyley (Free), Stewart (Free), Avinel (Free), Demerit (£As much as we can get), Francis (£As much as we can get), Rinaldi (Free), Priskin (£As much as we can), Kabba (Free), Ashikodi (Free), Hoskins (£500k to Forest as agreed) and Ellington (Swap for Earnshaw) Most are obvious, but choosing to sell Demerit as he and Shittu are incompatible in my opinion and Danny is the better of the two. Also would swap Earnshaw for Ellington as he will score goals in the Championship. Out on Loan Mariappa, O'Toole, Bangura and Robinson (Back to Hereford) - Somewhere that they can get a full season of games under there belt either Championship or League One. To Come In GK - If we can find a better option than Lee, but no more prospects. LB - Competition for Sadler CB - Davenport done deal IMO (1m ish). RB - Chris Baird, would do a good job at this level and is a leader (1.5m ish) CM - Would break the bank for Joe Ledley (4m) LM - 1st Choice would be Johnson (4m) 2nd Choice Huckerby (Free) or Bouazza (1-2m) CF - Earnshaw as a swap with Ellington, Nugent (3m) and Helguson (1m) We need to have a small squad of quality rather than the big squad of average players and future prospects. Obviously a takeover could mean the likes of Johnson and Nugent, whereas the current situation lends itself more to the likes of League 2 prospects.
Unfortunately if we don't go up (and the takeover emerges to nothing) I doubt we'll have anywhere near the sort of funds necessary to buy a Leroy Lita or an Adam Johnson...or any decent players from the Prem who want a similar wage packet to what they would be on.
The 'takeover' will play a big part, QPR will be spending close to £50 million i'd expect and will probably win the league. Theres so many players we could sign, but theres too many average players which would come in cheap, but wouldnt really improve the team. Wheres your suggestions then?
I won't be making any juvenile suggestions about players we should sign based on a fantasy budget. Think youll find we will have very little to spend this summer, and most player movements will be out.
darren huckerby could be a freebie someone like lee croft for a £500-£750k fee left back goalkeeper (foster loan again?) haynes john walters (ipswich) OUT: priskin poom rinaldi mariappa
Would be a great signing IMO! I think we need to sign 2 strikers, similar to the bargain prices paid for king and hendo, if we are going to have a chance of competing in either league next season. Suggesting someone like Ebanks Blake is a bit OTT as we will never be able to afford him, we need aidy and his scouts to find a cheap gem from somewhere... Clear out the entire strike force (bar either priskin or ellington as they can be used as back up) and kick start a "new" watford team
Banding all these names around is fine and some would probably be great signings. But 1) - if Sam Parkin ( fortunately) wouldn't sign for us is Lita ( for eample) likely to? 2) - Paying the fees and what ags would you give them and how long is the contract - how much are you committing the club to financially in orde to get the PLAYERS to sign for us. 3) - With wfc reputaion of hoofball - this is going to hold talented palyers back from signing for us - unles the style changes immediately at seasons close and teh close season and pe season a new styel is introduced. 4) - If Aidy is a kunt like many are saying word will have got about that playing for him is not very pleasant. 5) - If we do have a new manager in place early after season end - maybe the majority of this sqaud could be coached into a 'play football' tactic, then we may see the best of them. Would be a shame to let some go too quickly and then see them become a regular at a rival club.
ANY signings made will be Free's or nominal fees. Playing the way we play and with the current confusion over backroom staff I doub't we could attract anyone from the Prem
jrw - I think if AB is still in charge next season - he will use the LOAN system to its utmost allowance as well. Does any one know what the maximum loans are? i.e how many season long loanees and how many other loanees are allowed? Hopefully it will be 10 of each
Agree that SEB would probably never come and would be too expensive so I would go for someone like Kevin Lisbie,Aaron McLean or Paul hayes(presuming were in the championship)
It really depends on what happens at the end of the season. It depends on who the manager is, it also depends on who is running the club and what finances we have available. It's VERY UNLIKELY but we could still be promoted (I did say it was very unlikely), so we would have to sell 70% of our squad, and spend near on £20,000,000 to have ANY chance of staying up. We'd have to have a small compact squad (which is sometimes better...look at last time we went up, we had a small squad). You then look at players like Adam Johnson, Dave Nugent, Jason Koumas, Jimmy Bullard, Callum Davenport, Scott Sinclair, Leroy Lita & Stuart Taylor. The above mentioned players are the sort of players we should be looking at if we're serious about staying in the Prem (if we go up). Buying the better players off the relegated Premiership sides and the fringe players like Adam Johnson & Leroy Lita. If we stay down with no investment and the same management team, then we need to be looking to off load 70% of the squad (all the dead wood), and Aidy will have to use the loan market wisely, he'll have to bring in unknown foreign talent (like Barnsley have) in order to strengthen the squad. He'll have to sell players like Shittu, Demerit, Priskin and Ellington to raise cash for replacements....but the key is he has to REPLACE them! He can't sign players that can't step into those positions (i.e Collins John for Marlon King). So it basically depends on what happens in May.
stephen o'halloran (young CB/LB) leroy lita rob earnshaw (derby want to sell) darren huckerby (on free) paul wotton (doesn't want to be at plymouth - bit like eustace) krisitian nemeth anthony le tallec jamie ashdown danny guthrie
We'll probably have 3m to spend. A striker would be someone like Cameron Jerome or Garry O'connor from Brum. Still think we need a CM and that could be Kevin Prince Boeteng from Spurs. A right back could be a loaning, not sure who though.
i think we will still be in this league i would sign davenport and move bronby to rd look for kevin lisbie and nathan dyer ( lock up your phones and cash ) Shittu will go and with any luck jackson kabba priskin stewart doyley and loan out jj ot bangora campana robinson avanal i would like to see something like lee sadler demerit davenport bronby maccanuf eustes williams ainsworth lisbie ellington
If we're a championship club with the same people in charge of the club then we'll have precious little money to spend and AB will be forced to sell in order to make funds to bring others in. Of course any potential takeover would change things ALOT although chances are that's a LONG way off.
i agree with chewitt, the board were really basing everything on us getting back into the Prem ie with the stadium and taking out a 5.1 mill loan for the stadium development that has to be paid back next year, thats why Plan B was produced and i can only assume Plan b will mean selling most of our players and starting again.. next season i believe realistically if we stay in the championship we'll be looking at mid table at best. in regards to players next year i would be scouring the world not just england for players i've got a few in mind and not just some people have signed from football manager.. alex brosque-Sydney FC Bruce D'jite- Adelaide FC James Perch-Forest Adam johnson-boro Victor anichebe(loan)-everton David edgar-Newcastle Stefan Wessels-everton Danny Simpson-United (loan) rene mihelic- dalibor Craig cathcart-united emmanuel villa-straight swap for the lump
If we're in the championship I think we're more likely to succeed next season if we do get rid of some of the high earners and dead wood. Lump, Jay, Shittu, Kabba, Francis and maybe Hendo. Play the season with motivated youngsters mixed up with a few older and wiser leaders on different parts of the pitch such as Smith, Eustace and Bromby. The youngsters could be Theo robinson, Priskin (if we play to his strengths), Avinel (if he's any good), Parkes etc. Maybe top up with loanees from PrL clubs and I think we could challenge for the play-offs.
OUT Poom Jackson Stewart Shittu Francis Henderson Doyley Kabba Priskin Ellington Rinaldi Ashikodi Avinel IN Someone who can cross with there left foot. With the emphasis on it being to one of our players!!!! RB maybe Davenport CB LB no CM no RM no Hoping for some kind of miracle. Someone who can find the onion net now and again.. Lita i like. Nugent no hope
New Right back, centre back, centre mid, left mid, pacey striker, another striker. Big changes need to be made whichever division we will be in.
I think Aaron Maclean would be a great signing. Affordable definately. Davenport would be a good signing, but where would he fit in. When Shittu and Demerit are off-form? I think we should try and sign someone young for right back, Doyley is a bit hessitant in my opinion. John Irving or maybe even Delaney from QPR. Just someone who don't back off alot (jockey)
It doesn't matter who we would like to see sign for us, nor does it matter what league we are in... we will sign darlington reserves' 3rd choice left back and Yeovil's 2nd choice tea lady
