Looks much better this season. The game. Wasn't a penalty, Gomes got the ball, the player dived. Media reporting it as a clumsy mistake by Gomes. Nah. Our goal wasn't off side either The team Some useful aggression and much improved goi g forward. Loads of injuries again. Can't help but think that Jaanmat and Pereyra just don't want to play. Andre did **** all. doucoure was a spindly and good
Away in Italy (warm and sunny) so had to listen via the website. Sounded as though it was a cracker! Shame about the injuries and goalkeeping errors but lots of positives too! Need a new winger, GK, LB and a CB would be nice too, but the framework is there for a very successful season. Roll on next weekend!
Didn't think ambrabat played badly. And I'm hardly a fan. Britos couldn't find a pass to save his life
We desperately need new players at the back. What we have are just not good enough. However, midfield looks decent now with Doucoure and Chalobah looking like a good pairing. I like the look of Richarlison and Gray. Both look like very good additions. Okaka had a good first half before fading. I think we missed Deeney at times today. He would have bullied the tripe Liverpool call their backline. They are appalling at the back, so that problem is not exclusively ours. Arsenal and Leicester have big defensive problems as well, going by last night. There was plenty of promise going forward, but a lot of work to do defensively.....hopefully there will be some new additions soon to help the situation.
Definitely better than what I expected when I saw the lineup. Players played with pace, passion and commitment. A part from that shocking spell of 10-15mins in the second half, we matched Liverpool all the way and easily deserved the draw. Janmaat is just too soft. If I were Silva I would seriously be looking at his place in the 25 man squad. Right now, I would rather go with Djedje and Femenia as our RB's. My booooooo boy (Kaboul) didn't give me too much to booooooo about, but there were a couple things that I could, which I enjoyed. The guy is a donkey. On a side note, he did play well and his desire to put a shift while injured was great to see, Janmaat should learn from him. However he is my chosen booooo boy for the season so I can't start warming to him now. I seriously had a GK as the last position we need to strengthen. I had a LB, CB and RW as my top 3. After today's performance from Gomes, I might have to reconsider. Outside of the obvious mistakes he made, it was the fact he was so slow off his line. Even when Kaboul or Britos were shielding the ball for him to come and collected, he would hesitate. When he finally did decide to make a move it was slow and lumbered. I have been a big fan of Gomes but after today's performance I can see why we are looking for a new no.1
I'm worn out after that! Very encouraged by most of the match and performances. I didn't think Kaboul and Britos had bad games. The Bat is very frustrating but boy is he fit, really kept going and doesn't shirk. Doucoure seems to improve each game. Fingers crossed for RC as things nose dived after his departure. Hats off to the bearded chap trotting down The Rookery to converse with Mignolet!
Chelsea have had 10 men since the 14th minute and all of Burnley's goals came afterwards...extenuating circumstances really!
Why are people saying Gomes got the ball - he clearly did not. He does not think he did and surely he may know
Really enjoyable game today. We need to work better defensively but I actually think we a proper defensive full back. I thought Kaboul and Britos did ok but we were out done out wide. Mane and Salah were their best players and hurt us. Was very impressed in Midfield the desire was great to see. Think Richardlison will become an important player for us. He wasn't scared of getting stuck in and that bit of skill to rinse their full back was great to see. Docoure was superb and Chalobah did ok as well. Agree with others against the teams around us would like to see Pereya behind the striker. Injuries are still a problem. Think I saw enough today to think we will be fine this season and will finish 14th or above. Everything seems to be back on track as a club after the decisive reign of Walter. To think that idiot wanted to get rid of Doucoure! Final point, really like he video montage played before the game showing the glory days under GT. Hope that's a regular..
5000% better than last season, yet its still not good enough for so many. Its the first step after 18 months of dire defensive dross, be pleased that we have made such a massive leap forward in such a short space of time. If we play like that we will win more than we lose and easily be mid table. OK things aren't perfect yet and there were no stand out performances, but everyone did their jobs and did them well. I'm delighted with the way we played, the effort, the commitment, the lack of panic when we went behind and the work ethic of the team. A point was a fair result.
Agree with all this Markoa$. I think today was deffinatly a point gained. Silva maybe looked at this fixture to have a final look at some and give him a reason to keep them Britos Amrabat Kaboul okaka. For me I'd off load Amrabat keep the two cb's but Cathcart and Prodl would be my first choice. Okaka done enough and could prove useful over the season. I've been saying for sometime Gomes looks brutal and if not replaced I think he could cost us 9 to 12 points this season.
Okaka s scoring record in minutes played is very impressive. If we keep Deeney and Capoue for another season their value will go down as they won't be automatic starters. Now would be a good time to sell. Having Gray and Okaka fighting for one spot is very healthy. Personally I would love to see Gray and Deeney playing together but Silva has said that's not in his plans , so let's cash in on Deeney when his price is at a maximum.
Capoue yes. Deeney has a part to play this season. Okaka's goal aside, I'd rather see Deeney in the team than Okaka.
If money wasn't the issue I'd say keep Deeney , but his price is at the maximum right now , so sell . Gray with Okaka as back up is decent option.
Considering we paid 400k for him, I wouldn't be fussed if we let him go to Birmingham in 4 years on a free transfer.
Yes and they conceded against 9 men (I think) and Chelsea nearly levelled it at the death. So I wouldn't get too carried away if I was them!
Yes I do, cost us the third goal (in conjunction with Gomes) by ball watching and not tracking Firmino's run and whilst he wins a lot of headers, they all spoon off in random directions He isn't good enough to be starting for us, it should be Prodl + a new signing with Britos and Kabasele as backups
He was caught ball watching and got sucked out of position for Mane's goal as well - Mane ran in to the space which Kaboul vacated in a misguided attempt to make an interception.
Why though? Okaka is better with his back to goal and is a more dangerous goalscorer... Genuinely, how many people on here would have preferred Deeney to have started instead of Okaka, or come off the bench instead of Gray? I think he would have done worse at the jobs they were required to do than both...
Draw was a fair outcome Liverpool as expected excellent keystone cops defence Loving the Doucuoure Chalobah thing Amrobat still poor Our back 4 still always have a stupid mistake in them Janmaat still made of glass Cleverley busy and high energy Richard Alison looked useful Marco has a lot of work to do, we are a long way from where we need to be
Pereyra and Janmaat getting injured (with Femenia having to go RB instead of RW where he could be pretty effective) highlighted that we could still do with a new winger - Richarlison had some nice flashes but seemed off the pace for most of it and will need plenty of time to adjust. I don't feel he's ready to be an automatic starter at this level. Amrabat should be upgraded anyway. Success is clearly still to erratic and/or unfit for our managers to be taking a punt on him regularly.
